Karen Wyatt Skin Care

I have been seeing Karen for several years, and I would never change inless I moved away! She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and caring. She keeps notes about aroma likes and dislikes and puts on my favorite CD each time. Her neck and shoulder massages are wonderful, too!
I love her treatment room, heating table and mitts. I have gone for basic facials to, ultra ones with an extra half an hour for extra nurturance. I can discuss any problems or confess I haven’t done my routine and never feel judged. She has a variety of techniques and tools that she can use for various issues; we even dye my fading eyebrow now. She doesn’t push products, though Imhave found them to be quite good for my skin, and she will evaluate products you bring in for comedogenic and clogging ingredients.

As an aesthetician, Karen is extremely knowledgeable, very personable and truly cares about you and your best interests. She doesn’t try to push her products or procedures, but if she feels that your skincare régime is lacking, she will make recommendations and it’s up to you to decide. For me, the Solar Defender SPF 30 that she sells is fantastic. I have a combination skin (oily T zone with normal cheeks), which is extremely prone to clogging and that cream is absolutely fabulous. It disappears on your skin right away (especially if you tap it in rather than rub), stays on well, doesn’t clog the pores, moisturizes and doesn’t leave a white cast. And being in part zinc oxide sunscreen, it offers broad spectrum protection. A Holy Grail of sunscreens, if you ask me. The only drawback is that it’s not dirt cheap (30 $ for 4oz). But I use it only on my face, so it lasts a very long time. Also, I like the fact that most of her products are available in trial sizes, so you could see if it’s a good fit before committing to a full size bottle.
At the very first appointment I had to fill out a questionnaire about my skincare routine. Then she asked about my concerns and what my expectations were. After examining my skin, she tailored the the facial to my needs. Later she asked me to provide her all the ingredient lists of products that I use. Being a cosmetic ingredient buff myself, I was skeptical at first. I was already using products that were supposed to clear my skin (for example, 2% BHA gel). And I would never use anything comedogenic on my face. But she made some valid points, that if one ingredient isn’t comedogenic to most of the people, others may find it problematic, especially in greater concentrations. So after a while I gave in and trusted Karen completely. I came to her with terribly clogged skin (BHA and at– home extractions were helping, but my skin still was far from perfect). After series of facials, which are always customized to my skins needs (like extractions and different combinations of AHA/​BHA acids), my face looks fantastic. My skin is smooth, with 90% of the blackheads gone. With maintenance appointments I hope to bring that number to 100%. I even made «before» and «after» pictures and let me tell you, there is an amazing difference in how my skin looks and how I feel about it.
All in all, If you want a luxurious SPA experience, go to Mandarin Hotel (and pay an arm and a leg for it). But if you are not completely happy with your skin and want a true expert advice and treatment, go to Karen, she’ll take care of you.
Combining Karen’s facials, minimizing my skin care routine (face wash, benzoyl peroxide and sunscreen) and scratching all my old makeup helped my skin tremendously. Now I’m afraid to move out of the area, because I won’t be able to find another Karen…
