I entered this place as I love Tortas. After reviewing the menu, I left. I won’t pay ten bucks for HOTDOGS. That’s right, did you read the sign carefully? Everything has HOTDOG sausage in it. BLAH.

I ordered a torta with carne asada, pork, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, and jalapeños. I said that I didn’t want anything else on it, and it still came out with mayo. I was also expecting pork leg, but I got pork head cheese instead. I guess I should’ve been more specific. The torta bread was delicious, but it got a little soggy from the mushrooms, onions, and mayo, which I didn’t like at all. The carne asada had a nice grilled flavor to it. It took a while to prepare, but they seemed pretty busy. $ 10 is a little steep for a sandwich that isn’t even a meal on its own, though.

The owner is suuuuch a nice humble guy from Mexico. Obviously Burien has a lot of Hsipanic Restaurants but this is one of my families favorites. They have fresh Pumpkin flower quesadillas and Fresh huitlacoche which is this black stuff my mom told me they get it from corn stalks… Something strange like that but it’s suppper yummy. They are always playing the Novelas and that’s a plus if you want to grab food and not miss a minute of your drama packed reality caricatures :) hehe I’m just an ass hole. Novellas suck, Tortas Rock!!! Also try their Huaraches I get Tinga(Its shredded chicken in a savory marinade) on Point

As its name would indicate this spot specializes in tortas — and they are definitely solid. Enormous in size you’ll get your fill and there are so many different kinds to choose from. My breaded steak was real good but something tells me there’s better. Gonna have to make a return trip.

These are the bomb. This place is a must when I visit the Seattle area. The tortas are good and so are the quesadillas and gorditas. They were pretty cheap too.

I am writing this review after two pretty unpleasant experiences. On my first visit to Tortas Locas I ordered the crazy torta, the one with everything on it. While waiting for my order I heard someone coughing up a lung in the back, which I thought was kind of gross but not that big of deal. When I finally received my meal I enjoyed the sandwich. It was on a nice crusty roll with a ton of meat and fresh veggies. The next day however, I developed a pretty nasty cold which lasted for two weeks. Obviously I’m not sure if this is just a coincidence but it is still pretty gross to think about. Today against my better judgment I decided to give Tortas Locas another chance. I started off by ordering a mango smoothie, a pork leg and chorizo torta, and a chicken tostada to go. I ordered the same for a co-worker. When I received the smoothie it was luke warm, watery, and tasteless. Room temperature milk in a smoothie doesn’t seem too safe to me. After another long wait in the empty restaurant, approximately 20 minutes, my meal was ready and I drove the 2 minute drive back to work to eat. First I tried the tostada. The meat was a kind of gelatinized chicken headcheese, not regular chicken as I was led to believe. This would have been fine as I don’t have a problem with headcheese, except this isn’t what I ordered and it had no flavor whatsoever. It just tasted like crunchy gelatin. Next my co-worker and I tried the tortas. There was no chorizo to be found, the pork was room temperature, full of cartilage, and had absolutely no seasoning. Worst of all there were end pieces of onions and tomatoes on BOTH of our sandwiches. It honestly seemed like the veggies were pulled straight from the trash. The tomatoes were way over ripened and some of the onion ends even had the papery skin attached. That was all we could stomach and ended up throwing the sandwich away at that point. Overall, this place is pretty gross. I don’t understand how it can be so highly rated. It seems fairly clean on the inside, but the quality of the food is not very good. They seem like they just don’t care. I can see a restaurant accidently putting an end piece of a tomato on one sandwich, but two sandwiches containing only end pieces of both tomatoes and onions is disgusting.

Suprisingly, I think that the gorditas here are possibly even better than the tortas. They arent perfect, but, theyre the closest to getting it right that my wife and I have visited so far in Seattle… If youre a gordita lover from Mexico or a transplant from a southern state looking to find something authentic, give this place a shot. The Burien/White Center area is still the closest thing to a Mecca of Mexican food that Seattle has got… More people should make the drive. Its worth it.

craving a torta, i Unilocaled this place and convinced my wife to go here with me. being that she loves tortas, she was pretty enthusiastic. this place is no frills place, no ambiance or atmosphere, just good mexican tortas. walking in on a sunday afternoon, it was packed from all the local latin population, we felt a little out of place for we’re asian, but seeing all of these latin locals only reinforced the fact that this place is good and authentic. today, i ordered the famed cubana torta. at $ 9.95, it is a little pricey, but it was pretty delicious. ham, hot dog, breaded beef, chorizo, mexican cheese and sauteed veggies is sandwiched in between a super soft torta bun. by itself, it’s nothing spectacular, but adding the verde or red hot sauce really made the sandwich good. add a mexican coke or pepsi, or horchata or one of the couple fruit juices and life is good.

I had a carne asada torta here the other day, and really enjoyed it! It was delicious – the bread was the best bread I can recall having on a torta – and filling. They have a much more extensive menu than I expected(and it is in both English and Spanish), but I kept it simple for my first visit. They brought out two kinds of hot sauce and a bowl of jalapeño slices when they brought out my sandwich. I definitely recommend adding jalapenos to give it some kick. Neither sauce was that hot, but they both tasted great. The meat was good, and the portions of everything were generous.(I always love places that are generous with avocado.) The people were friendly, the prices were good, and there is a ton of seating. Street parking on Ambaum isn’t my favorite, but you could park on a side street and then walk over if you’d rather. They are a cash-only establishment, but there is an ATM in the restaurant.

So, after reading the Surly Gourmand’s review of Tortas Locas, I had to check this joint out… I went full-bore and ordered the Cubana torta. As expected, it was a monster and should definitely be shared(I only got through ¾ of it before throwing in the towel. It contains breaded beef, ham, chorizo, a hot dog, some other kind of pork, queso blanco, lettuce, tomato, sautéed onions, avacado & mayo for $ 9.50. It was pretty epic. I added a picture of the Cubanan torta to the Unilocal profile, check it out. I will most likely go for a smaller torta next time. ;) They must have a new menu board up because it was both in English & Spanish.

It’s such a good sandwitch place! it would be nice if they had more english menu’s or an english menu with better descriptions of what you’re getting but the Loco and the Cubana are me and my mom’s favorite!!! only takes cash but they have an ATm machine in the store so that’s nice

I was craving a Torta and was heading to my usual Mexican joint. I have passed this place numerous times and thought I would give them a try. I was told it was Mexico City Style Tortas. The menu has a lot of choices and is in Spanish, so if you don’t speak Spanish, ask for the printed out English menu. It was similar to any Torta I have had, yet different. The bread was the same as any, but bigger. The meat selection was not you usual taco filling. It was breaded beef, sausage, chorizo, and other wonderful meats. I had the Torta Loca with a bunch of different meats. It was delicious… add the jalapenos. They also have a great selection of Mexican soft drinks.
