Came for the Funnel Cake Ice Cream Sandwiches, but found out they’re only sold on Wednesday(I think from 5−8pm). Instead, I settled for the original ice cream flavor concoctions. Some of the flavors were: Bacon Chorizo Caramel(really good ice cream, with a savory kick), Blood Orange Margarita(very rich sorbet), Raspberry Lychee(tame sorbet), Strawberry Shortcake(great thick-ish consistency and great taste), and Blueberry Pie(my favorite flavor, and it actually tasted like the pie). I got two scoops in their waffle cone, which itself was flavorful, sturdy, and didn’t leak at all. I’ll go back on a Wednesday night for sure.

Holy smokes, the ice cream here is delicious. It was really hard to make a decision out of their long list of options, many of which struck me as adventurous and novel. Bacon chorizo caramel? IPA flavored ice cream? Yes, please. As with most ice cream places, you can try the flavors before you choose, and I would recommend at least trying a few flavors since many of the flavors listed are in a rotation and may not be around the next time you come to visit. The bottom four, a chocolate, vanilla, strawberry shortcake, and blueberry pie flavors are permanent, and are delicious. I got the Heath Bar and Strawberry Shortcake flavors, with candied pecans on top, and my tastebuds were in heaven. Yeah, go here for dessert(or snack, or dinner…) for sure. Also, parking is super easy as there is a lot of free street space, and if you’re around during the day, take your ice cream for a stroll and wander around all the cool and quirky stores on Magnolia.

Really like the unique ice cream flavors they come up with. My favorite has to be the pandan flavor but I’ve only been able to try it once since they don’t have it all the time. I think my friend called just about everyday for a month to see if they had pandan flavor… sadly they have yet to say yes. Luckily, they always have blueberry pie flavor on hand which is what I normally end up getting. Hopefully they bring back the ever elusive pandan ice cream soon.

I give this place 3.5 stars. PARKING: Lots of parking on the sidewalk available ATMOSPHERE: I think I had high expectations for this place and assumed that it would look so cute inside but I was soooo disappointed. Yeah, it’s a small space and probably not the main ice cream shop but it just looked sad. :(The lighting was just really harsh and the walls were a bland white with awkward furniture like a bookcase. BUT I do appreciate their effort in trying to incorporate items that could make it feel like an ice cream shop is suppose to feel but I think they gotta step it up a bit. SERVICE: VERY helpful! I like that we got to try basically any flavor we wanted, however many. FOOD: I got the orange creamsicle and strawberry shortcake. I was neither disappoint nor impressed. I think I’ve tried better.

Items Selected: Samples — Cookie Butter Oreo, Banana Split, Concord Grape, Vanilla Mascarpone, Black Sesame Snickerdoodle Oatmeal Cherry Cookie Blueberry Pie and Strawberry Shortcake Unable to abide by a single dessert at Scratch Bar and having already eyeballed Quenelle on the way out of Burbank earlier that day it was just moments before 9pm that I entered the small parlor on West Magnolia Boulevard, the service from a young woman smiling and extremely helpful while flavors offered ranged from typical to almost absurd. Owned and operated by John Park, a man whose frozen confections had generated more than a little buzz at the short-lived XIV as well as Lukshon, Quenelle focuses on small-batch craftwork and offering both scoops as well as popsicles plus a small number of pastries there is little doubt that a lot of thought goes into the offerings, a varying menu occasionally leaving patrons lamenting lost favorites while something new prepares to take its place. Small in storefront, though the kitchen in back seems to extend far further than one would guess, it was with a small tasting of daily spoonfuls that I acclimated to Park’s creamy base and slowly melting dairy-free sorbets, the pickle passed over for fear of blowing my palate while truly delicious bites were enjoyed of both mild Vanilla Mascarpone and juicy Concord Grape. Expectedly a bit picked over considering the time of night, it was eventually with a double-scoop cone plus two cookies that modest tab was settled, the dessert inspired duo each offering a spot-on representation of their namesake with chunks of fruit aplenty, the baked rounds no less impressive as crisp rim gave way to soft center, the Snickerdoodle dancing with Cinnamon while the Oatmeal was moist and toothsome around pockets of brown sugar and dried cherries.

Hit, but mostly miss flavors for me. Came here because I really wanted Horchata, and there’s no phone number to call in advance. No horchata flavor. So, here were the flavors I tried: Blueberry pie: Honestly couldn’t taste the blueberries. Blindfolded I would have said graham cracker. Dunkin Doughnuts: This is coffee flavor only. No doughnuts in it. Not bad, but not great either. Orange Creamsicle: Kind of orange sorbet tasting even though it wasn’t a sorbet, my brother who normally likes orange anything didn’t really like this flavor. Samosas: I actually like the girl scout cookies of the same name, but didn’t like the ice cream here because it was way too sweet. Like sugar and more sugar laced with caramel. I gave up on the ice cream and since he felt bad my brother had the strawberry shortcake which is the best flavor out of the ones we tried. Good strawberry flavor, but nothing to write home about. I also bought two of their $ 8/each drink. Banana bread and Horchata. Both were a bit of a disappointment for the price. Too much almond milk and not enough flavor. The Horchata tasted like a weird health drink, and once again for $ 8, I couldn’t see myself buying this ever again. Was kind of sad that we were hyped to come here, and weren’t all that thrilled with their ice cream or drinks.

1, 2, 3, 4… I DECLAREAN… ICECREAMCRAWL!!! DAY3, STOP7 BACKSTORY:(Repeated on all ice cream crawl reviews. If you’ve read it once, no need to read it 20+ times :-p) Thanks to social media and their ways to entice peeps, like me, to get out and about town, I recently succumbed to their power of suggestion and checked out ice cream parlors in the LA area. The goal? The goal was not to find the best ice cream parlor, nor the worst, and to see what was out there, instead the goal was to have a frame of reference when peeps or fellow Unilocalers ask, suggest, or check into places. Last stop of the day, on day three of an ice cream crawl, with«armed with an appetite and not afraid to use it»!!! PARKING: Street parking INTERIOR: Customer area can be cramped, if more than a dozen are inside. The menu is handwritten in colored chalk on a blackboard. Alas, it was the end of the day by the time we arrived and more flavors were crossed out than not. Crossed out flavors means they don’t have any more of that flavor. CUSTOMERSERVICE: The young ladies were helpful and apologetic, as they were out of a couple flavors we wanted to try. ORDERED: Drat! Apparently I neglected to note the flavor. I’ll have to revisit it again. Cohort ordered a split scoop of strawberry shortcake and strawberry yuzu lemonade. Fellow Unilocaler joined us at this stop, again, I didn’t take note of what he ordered. IN A SCOOP: Parking was easy peasy. Most of the stores nearby were already closed. Ordering was a challenge because, like I mentioned above, it was late in the day, pretty much closing time, thusly they were out or nearly out of a lot of feelings. Will have to revisit before completing this review. This concludes LA ice cream crawl day three. Over 80 miles driven to visit seven ice cream parlors. PHEW! Let’s eat!!! #LAICECREAMCRAWL
