On a Saturday morning I don’t always want something complicated, just a classic diner breakfast. For me, Tony’s hits that spot. A mug of coffee, well cooked eggs, basic hash browns, and the rye toast! That is breakfast and it is perfect. Aside from breakfast they have the standard fair– burgers, sandwiches, the obligatory Greek options, Texas hots, etc. Admittedly I’ve never had anything besides breakfast because I’m hopelessly addicted to their rye toast with a runny egg. In terms of feel it’s mostly a locals kind of place. You can tell the people who go to Tony’s are dedicated regulars. The face lift it’s gone through looks quite nice on the outside, but it still feels classic on the inside, which I like a lot. Note: this is a cash only place! Be sure to hit an ATM first.

Judging from the exterior and interior, this looked like my kind of a place. I was immediately drawn to Tony’s non-pretentious, unapologetic old school diner vibe. The coffee counter was charming and the menu hoisted above it offered standard diner grub and CHEAP prices. So far so good until I was told the owner stopped making soup because of the summer season. While I can understand the logic behind that, the weather in Buffalo has been quite unseaonable for the past two weeks(it was 60 with heavy rain today) and I was more than disappointed that I could not have a hot bowl of soup to warm me up. I opted for a coffee instead along with a fried bologna sandwich, a side of fries, and two burgers(those were for my friend). The bill came to $ 18.00. When our server came over with our beverages I asked if there were free refills on the coffee. She informed me that they wouldn’t be putting another pot of coffee on because they would be closing soon. I told her that I drink a lot of coffee and I would be having more. After that another employee came over and basically told me they would not be serving me coffee after my first and only cup. I told her I should have been told I could only have one cup of coffee. She said they would be closing soon and that it would be a waste of money to make another pot of coffee. Was she for real? YES. A pot of coffee costs a handful of change and I think I paid for the entire pot with the 1.49 that I was charged for a single cup. When my friend and I glanced over at the menu and saw the restaurant hours we were infuriated. They didn’t close for another hour!!! If we weren’t prompted to pay when we ordered at the counter we would have walked right out of there. When our meals came out, we understood why everything was so cheap. The burgers were thin, flat patties that made MacDonald’s burgers look huge. My fried bologna wasn’t on par with say Louie’s. It was okay. And there was a pinch of fries on the side. With this said, I won’t be giving Tony’s another chance and if I do, I’ll go in there with my own pot of coffee next time.

My husband and I just moved to Buffalo from NYC. Been searching for a place to have breakfast. Went to alot of places but they were either expensive or just plain meh for the money. A lot of expensive mistakes. While driving around we came across Tony’s and decided to give it a try. What can I say, great food and good prices!!! Breakfast was awesome, and their burgers are great too. Definitely going back !!
