This place is pretty old school — you order at the counter and wait for your food. Based on the reviews the specialities are the roast lamb on weck, roast beef on weck and curly fries so we ordered one of each as well as the root beer. I would describe the lamb on weck as mutton on weck, a little dry but really muttony and delicious with horseradish. The roast beef on weck was well done and tasted pretty standard. Fries are alright, could be crispier. It’s not bad and kind of unique, definitely worth at least one visit.

I recently forgot how many places I’ve been forgetting to review that seem to be my go-to-places. Beef on weck and fries are always good and fresh, hardly ever a wait when ordering. Have tried the pulled pork sandwich but wasn’t what I expected, to messy and kind of bland. Keep up the good work guys!

This BBQ establishment is as plain on the inside as it is on the outside. This goes for the menu as well. While not a bad place to visit it certainly fails to impress with a short menu, dreary interior, and fast food vibe. The food is good: BBQ in its simplest form. Prices are reasonable, though may seem slightly unbalanced when weighed against the overall quality of the restaurant.

I used to come here every day before work. I haven’t lived in Lakawanna for about three years, now, and I really miss this place. No place comes close to Steve’s in Los Angeles. The turkey sandwich — perfect. Beef on weck — amazing. Pork — divine. The curly fries are memorable. Service is quick, meat is roasted on a pit in a room adjacent to the dining room daily. All fresh. I just wish we had a Steve’s here — miss you guys!

I remember this place being better and cheaper than my last experience. Quick, friendly service but the pulled pork sandwich just didn’t do it for me. The fries are a very large order and yummy though. I’d go again and try something different.

If one of your pet peeves is Iggy Azalea and also getting Chicken Pox, then you might want to go to Peeves: Ig & Pox Roast. However this is not that. This is something else. I drove all the way out here to give this a try and then realized I’d tried it twice before. Once I had the beef on weck which I found overdone and dry. The other time I had the BBQ which I found awful. I have since heard from a trusted friend that I should try the lamb on weck, so one of these days I will come back here and try that, and then re-review if necessary. But until then… nahhhhh. Also I thought I remembered crazy dirt-cheap prices, but that is no longer the case… t would have cost me close to 10 for a sandwich, so I decided to skip it until another time. Still, a lot of people like this place so give it a try and decide for yourself!

If you’re looking for good BBQ for a low price, look no further. This place will satisfy you cravings. They don’t have a huge menu, but they don’t need it. The pulled pork with a side of fries is a perfect meal from here, in my opinion. The have other options too, such as beef on weck, if you’re looking for something different. The staff here is very friendly and helpful. You can eat in or carry out, depending on you preference.

For some reason, my husband isn’t a fan(I have yet to find out why…), but I love their food! I like the turkey the best, and their fried are really good!

Ok, I am an old guy who grew up loving Bailo’s restaurant at the corner of Bailey & Lovejoy. Roast Beef and a cherry pop. But I do love Steve’s Pig & Ox Roast now. I have tried many different places in Buffalo over the years and had some great tastes but small portion and high price. Steve’s give me a large sandwich with the flavor I like(they roast their beef over a charcoal pit on premise). Add fresh cut curly q fries and Birch Beer soda and I am happy. Too bad younger folks who grew up on frozen fries can’t appreciate fresh cut fries. Again good value & taste. You will see me there at least once a month. :-)

I didn’t like the beef on weck. It was well-done and dry, no different than 90% of the beef on weck served these days. How come so many establishments only offer well done beef on weck? However, the curly-q fries were fresh and some of the best fries around. And the staff was very friendly. So I won’t give it a thumbs down but don’t expect a great beef on weck.

Passed through Buffalo on our way to Niagara Falls and recalled this place, owned by a Croatian family. And as is typical with Croatians, Steve’s knows how to roast meats. They offer beef, pork and of course lamb. When I was there about 8 years ago I had the lamb, which is always good and fresh. This time I chose the Beef on Weck with fries, enoughf for the wife and I to share… as they say in Croatia dobar tek!

Was at the Botanical gardens for an Easter Egg Hunt and wanted to get something to eat after. Not really sure where to go, but then I remembered my brother and I talking about Steve’s Pig and Ox Roast the other day. My wife was reluctant at first, but I convinced her we should check it out. Now I’ve eaten food from here before as some take-out when I worked at my family’s shop. This is the first time I tried it in probably 10 years and it was just as good as I remembered. Now I planned on getting their Beef on Weck as I knew it was delicious, but when I saw they had carved lamb I could not resist trying a Lamb on Weck. My wife got the Pork and we got a regular order of chicken fingers for the kids. Kids fingers came with a small fry so I got a large fry to split with the wife. Some Loganberry and a beer for drinks and I was good to go. The lamb was delicious, I normally cover my Beef on Weck in Horseradish(if you’re not crying while you eat it, you’re not doing it right is my feeling) The lamb was so tasty though I didn’t want to hide any taste of it, so I went sans horseradish except for the last two bites. My wife enjoyed the pork, and the kids fingers were good as well. Nice size, crisp outside, juicy inside. And the curly fries are amazing and a HUGE amount(see my photo). Definitely no reason not to split a large fry between two people. It’s more than enough. Talking to the worker(owner?) on how good it was after he had seen we devoured it all, he mentioned that they have been in business over 35 years. With food as tasty as this, I can see why. If you’re in the Southtowns looking for a good Beef on Weck(or lamb, turkey, or pork as well) check out Steve’s.

Great food for the price! Their roast beef is amazing, the place itself is a little dated but who cares when the food is this good. They now sell beer too which goes great with the buffalo food inspired menu. They trully serve the buffalo classics the right way! The only downside is they only accept cash so be prepared ahead of time! Theres an atm inside but beat the fee and bring cash before hand!

This place is fantastic and a great stop if you are visiting the Basilica(but is even worth the drive if you aren’t in the neighborhood). Simple décor matches a simple menu but is cleverly done with classic Buffalo scenes to take in while enjoying a classic Buffalo meal. There are not a lot of menu options but you don’t need them. Get the beef on weck! The pulled pork was also fantastic and flavorful. The beef was juicy and tender and the wect rolls had just the right amount of salt to add flavor but not be overbearing. Watch the horeradish. It is strong stuff so use it sparingly unless you really want your sandwich to pack a punch. The fries come in small and large and the portions are huge. Two people can easily share an order that features fresh cut fried with a perfect combination of being both crispy and flavorful. They do not accept credit cards so make sure you bring cash(or use the ATM that they have in the restaurant).

Step up to the counter and choose from a simple sandwich & side menu. I tried the BBQ pork sandwich and macaroni salad. Add a soft drink and get out for less than 9 bucks. Fantastic. This place probably hasn’t changed in years and it’s a dependable local hangout. No pretensions, no illusions, just good food at great prices.

I’ve never had Beef on Weck before, but when in Rome… This is a nice little place to get some beef on weck. Its a small place that looks like a mom and pop restaurant. You can order it with a side of au jus(like a beef dip), or they have fresh horse radish that you can spread inside. The beef was really tender and the sandwich hit the spot. I’m a big fan of fries, and they certainly pile it on at least 4 – 5 inches high! Next time I’m in Buffalo, this is a must.
