Monro Muffler Brake & Service

The coupons and cheap oil changes brought me in but the poor service made me stop going. The manager is unprofessional & the staff lie about checking certain things on your car. I asked the mechanic to check my tire while I was getting an oil change because I kept losing air in it. The mechanic said that it was because of «the winter» it was losing air. I took my car to a Midas and they actually found the hole in my tire and fixed it. The employees smoke weed in the back and sit around talking rather than working on customers cars. I will not be going back there.

Used to love this location. Close and covenient for both home and work. However I made a late (after work) appointment for an inspection on Monday. When I arrived I was told the only inspector on duty had to leave for a family emergency, and could I come back tomorrow?. Yeah okay. I did that only to be told they were out of inspection stickers and couldn’t do the work. Really?. You didn’t realize this yesterday and prioritize holding a sticker for a regular customer?.

One morning I went out to my car and noticed that my rear tire was nearly flat. I called a few places around and most said they couldn’t get me in until 12pm.
When I called, I spoke with James and he was able to get me in immediately. After looking at the tire, he said he could fix it.
I was there for a little over an hour but when I was done, I had a fully and safely patched tire, which is a relief because it didn’t have very many miles on them. James was courteous, friendly and straight forward. He made sure I was taken care off and made whole experience easy. Excellent customer service!

I would like to preface this by saying that I am knowledgable about cars, especially my own, to the point of being able to change a solenoid in a transmission. I am not an expert, but I am not completely ignorant when it comes to cars and car parts.
I had to go to a muffler shop because the resonator pipe in my exhaust had cracked in half near the flange/​catalytic converter, and because it rusted through and I knew it needed to be replaced, and could not be sleeved. The rest of the exhaust system was in ok condition. I looked up the part (2000 Subaru Outback) and saw it would be about $ 90 — $ 140 retail.
Knowing full well that a shop like Monro would try to rip me off, I bit the bullet and made an appointment to bring it in. It needed to be fixed, and quickly. After examining the exhaust for 10 seconds, the guy with the eyebrow piercing began to get a price list together while I waited — fully aware that I was about to be raked over the coals. I wasn’t prepared for what happened next however. I was told that the exhaust pipe needed to be replaced, and that it would cost $ 550. I said «you’re joking, right? That is way too much money to replace the resonator pipe.» He then attempted to tell me that the entire system needed to be replaced, which is completely untrue. I looked a little more closely at the estimate and saw that he was pricing it as a 2007 Subaru, which is a model year newer than mine, with undoubtedly different and most likely more expensive parts. Then I saw that he was attempting to charge me $ 60 for the bolts which hold the resonator onto the converter. I angrily said I would never pay that much money even if the entire exhaust did need to be replaced, and left.
I went home and looked up Cole Muffler, which is listed as being on Niagara Street right by my house by Google, called and was given an estimate of around $ 200. The next day I went to what Google said was Cole Muffler, but was actually EC Auto (954 Niagara Street). Google’s error turned out to be serendipitously in my favor. EC told me they would look at it, and let me know the price. Ernesto put the car on the lift and said that the resonator did need to be replaced, and showed me exactly why. He assured me that the rest of the exhaust system was fine. Then he said he could fix it immediately for $ 140.
Let me repeat that — a job that Monro Muffler attempted to charge me $ 550 was completed for FOUR HUNDRED AND TEN DOLLARS LESS by EC AUTO. I got there at 12pm, and drove away at 1:15pm. I was so happy that I went to 7 – 11, took out $ 20 from the ATM, and brought it back as a tip for Ernesto.
Sorry to be long winded, but I had to post this here. I am very hopeful that Monro Muffler on Main and Utica sees this, and that a potential customer of theirs also sees this and steers clear of them. I saved $ 410 by not going to them. Even if you don’t go to EC Auto to have work done (which I HIGHLY recommend doing), please do not give your hard earned money to these scam artists. How this place is still in business is beyond me.

Manager was exceptionally unprofessional. I pulled up at 2:40pm while he was in a car chatting and laughing with someone that does not look like a passenger. As I passed to go inside where I waited for 8 minutes unaddressed, the attendant ignored my entrance.
When he was done chatting, he came inside and searched for my name and could not find it he let me know I did not get my car serviced there. I corrected him letting him know that he dealt with me 6 months ago. His response was «I’ll check one other thing and if you are not here you have to go where you got your tires». He found it under my company name and proceeded to tell me that I should have given my company name and not waste his time. I felt so insulted for doing business there he proceeded to tell me I can go to another Monroe. He manages the Monroe at 1350 Main Street.

When I went to drop my car off I parked in a spot close to the building. As I was getting out of my car, an SUV pulled up perpendicular to my car and beeped at me. I asked what was up and he said «can you park in a spot?» I told him I was parked in a spot. He said «this is where I park.» I asked who he was he said he was the «boss.» Rude. Especially since the parking lot was completely empty and also an ice skating rink that day and they were going to have my keys and be able to move my car in about 2 min if they really wanted. I decided to keep my appointment anyway. Estimate was $ 600+ for a muffler, said they had to replace the whole system and couldn’t weld the systems on these «new cars» — my car is 7 years old. I called around, ended up getting it fixed for less than 200 with friendly service somewhere else.

I had a simple state inspection appointment planned a week in advance. When I arrived, they had one person ahead of me and yet it took nearly two hours before they started looking at my car.
After the car pulled in, I heard them start laughing and the desk guy, James, came out with a smile still on his face and told me that because my check engine light was on I would fail the inspection. He would give me an estimate by running a diagnostic and try to fix it today, and he encouraged me that since I was already here, I might as well do it, so I said yes. He ran the check and ten minutes later came out to tell me there was nothing he could do because he didn’t have the rinky dink sensor required and wouldn’t want to mess with it even if he did order it, and so I’d have to take it to my dealer. He then charged me full price for the inspection.
Two and half hours, a morning wasted, rude employees dragging their feet, and I paid FIFTY DOLLARS for a check that autozone up the street does for free. Stay away from this place.

get your state inspection done here. last time they also checked my brakes for free. very, very reasonably priced here.

Got an oil change here the other day. With no previous appointment, they let me know they were busy and asked if it would be okay if it would take a few hours. Sure, it was okay, I answered somewhat begrudgingly because their waiting room is anything but pleasant and I was a little upset that CleveHill Tire & Auto were totally booked up until Friday. See, CleveHill’s waiting room is super comfortable and has free wifi.
With that said, I dropped my car off and walked over to Delta Sonic to use their wifi and work for a few hours. I called them around 11:20 as I had a noon meeting and wanted to ask them how much longer it would be. They assured me they were almost done and would call me soon. I ended up walking back to see what was going on and they were still working on my car. I also asked them to see if they could investigate where a weird noise was coming from, so they were able to track it down and tell me it’s a pipe that’s rattling because of some loose screws. They also said I had a leak in my exhaust and gave me an estimate for it.
They mentioned they could fix the rattling, but it would cost $ 125 and I declined and figured I’d go to a cheaper garage in Niagara Falls to fix it a little later. All in all, they seemed like honest guys and were pretty accommodating although perhaps a little on the pricier side of car repair than what I’m used to.
