Visited their downtown location, which doesn’t have a Unilocal page. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I needed to mount two paintings which I’d never done before and the guy not only brought me right over to exactly what I needed, but gave me instructions as well as tips to make sure it came out well. Everyone in the store made me feel comfortable taking on a project that was unfamiliar to me. As their name implies, I will be returning to Hyatt’s for all things creative.

I came to this location twice. The first time I called on the phone and spoke with Rebecca. I explained to her that I am from North Carolina, and a fountain pen user, and was hoping that they had a nice black fountain pen ink in stock. Rebecca checked for me while I was on the phone with her and gave me a list of what they had, including Noodler’s Black Ink. She gave me the price and held the bottle for me for my arrival after work. She was a pleasure to deal with, and so friendly in-fact that I ended up talking myself into buying a Sherpa pen while I was there as well! I few weeks later I was in need of another Rhodia notebook. Once again, spoke with Rachel and she checked what they had. I came in after work again and the great thing this time, only my second visit ever and not drawing any attention to myself, she noticed me and said hello. She asked how my stay was going, and how much longer before I got to head home to NC. That right there folks, is EXCELLENT customer service. Not to mention the nice lady that was ringing me out noticed my home state and she grew up about 20 minutes from my home. Small world. This is an excellent location and I hope I get to visit just once more before I travel home, though honestly I don’t know what else I would possibly need at this point. Keep up the great work!

When a mistake is made, the least a company can do is apologize. Instead, the owner, Greg Hyatt, denied any responsibility and scolded me for complaining. I was shipped an item that was missing a very necessary part, so I wrote to Hyatt’s to see if they could send me the part. All they would do is tell me to contact Amazon because the item was shipped from an Amazon warehouse. Greg Hyatt could also have simply shipped me a replacement item(it cost less than $ 10) from his own warehouse in New York. He could have put the customer first, but instead displayed an attitude that said, «We don’t make mistakes.» The first reply I received from«Sara» at Hyatt’s was polite, even though the person said they wouldn’t do anything about it. I wrote back and commented that they should take responsibility for their product. Things could have ended there. But no: Greg Hyatt had to write to scold me and acted very defensive and indignant that someone would even dare to suggest his company made a mistake. I had questioned whether Hyatt’s sent the item to the Amazon warehouse without the needed part. As a customer, how am I to know who is being careless — the third-party seller or someone in the Amazon warehouse? I will never know. I have been a third-party seller on Amazon myself for more than 15 years, and I don’t have the Amazon warehouses ship my products, precisely because, as a seller, you have no control over how your product is handled; you lose control over part of your customer’s experience. Even if someone else is shipping your product, you are still the seller, and for a company to not be willing apologize or take any responsibility whatsoever is unacceptable. This was an inexpensive item, but it was something I needed. Amazon ended up refunding my money without requiring me to return the product. The Amazon reps I spoke to overseas were a thousand percent more polite than Greg Hyatt. If anyone at Hyatt’s had simply apologized for inconveniencing me, that would have gone a long way. But instead, I got a snippy and indignant reply from the owner. One must question how they will treat you in the event of a mistake. I will never buy anything from Hyatt’s — online or in person — again.

I visit the downtown store often and am out at this location perhaps 2 times a year or so. Its smaller than the Main Street one, and carries a few different things, but it carries the things im looking for. The employees are very nice here and seem to like their work. Even if you come knowing what you are looking for, you may find yourself distracted by all sorts of other things«you did not know you needed». They have such quality things here. Easy parking.

Hyatt’s has been around western New York for nearly 56 years. Considering how many people order everything online, this is a feat. The number one thing that must be the secret to this longevity is customer service. That’s why I return. There is a large selection of supplies for both fine artists or graphic designers, plus a wide array of classes available. If they have the item you want in their other location, they’ll have it brought to your store’s location for your convenience. If the associates don’t know the answer to your question, they’ll find out. The prices are on par with competitors, although there are few local competitors. And very specialized items can be found only here(or online). You would probably fare best with a coupon and purchase at one of the craft supply stores if they have the same item you’re looking for, if you can bear shopping there with no artistic advice. Hyatt’s offers exceptional framing. It’s also a perfect spot for great ideas for gifts for young and budding artists. Stop in, you’ll be greeted and helped if you need it or left alone if you’re on a mission and don’t want to be bothered. You know how us, ahem, artists can be.
