Sadly but true i have not been to my doctors office at 900 Hertel Ave for over a year new. I dont feel well and need a new place to go! The reason i have not been back is because the last time i went in for a scheduled appointment the very unpleasant and dismissive receptions skipped over me and never signed me in. After a 45 minute wait they told me that i would have to either reschedule or spend another hour or two at the office before being able to be seen. I walked out that day and have never returned. I feel that finding a good office in todays day in age is almost impossible. I tried to make a complaint but that did not go anywhere. What to do … What to do…

I’ve been to several doctor’s offices around Buffalo, and while there are some notable and fabulous exceptions, many clinics here share the same shortcomings: out of date information systems, overworked and/or under-trained support staff, and a general sense of chaos and disorder. Hertel-Elmwood Internal Medicine has all of these shortcomings, which is disappointing. Due to the above, I waited an hour to even be seen at this clinic, with long waits in between each sighting of a nurse or doctor. Perhaps in part due to the backup of patients, the staff who signed me in and checked me out did so with an air of exasperation that bordered on rudeness. I understand what it’s like to have a rough day at work, but taking one’s feelings out on the customer is something I find reprehensible in most situations, and frankly, unacceptable in an industry whose sole purpose is to make people feel better. The saving grace of my first visit here was Dr. Davis, a friendly resident who stepped into the room, promptly apologized for my wait, and was all smiles throughout our first meeting, which was just for a basic physical(thank goodness). She exuded an air of competence throughout our time together, kept me laughing even as we ran through a long gamut of tedious and sobering health questions, and even arranged for me to have additional basic tests during my visit that I’d ordinarily have to have at a different location. She was great about explaining the reasoning behind everything that we did, which made me feel at ease and respected. Buffalo needs fewer chaotic, out-of-date clinics like Hertel-Elmwood, and more doctors like Dr. Davis to save said clinics from themselves. Any ideas on how we can help make this happen? I’d love to know.
