Used to be 5 stars. Last time I ordered Hot & Sour Soup, and a some other dish. I became sick on the soup, and the other dish wasn’t too good. Maybe the chef quit.

They have a really nice cook and they are fresh. Although I don’t like the smell of the place. I tried the chicken friend rice and noodles. Both were fine. It is a nice place for quick bite and take out. I heard the bubble tea is nice

I’ve never eaten anything off of the Chinese American menu, so my only basis for this review is dim sum. Every time I’ve come here, the food has been delicious and on par with dim sum I’ve had in Toronto. Usually I always try to get fish balls, pork buns and some type of dumpling. The dumplings are always delicious, fresh and hot. On this visit, I branched out and tried the stuffed eggplant(a bit bland) and the stuffed crab claw – you can usually never go wrong with crab. If you’re coming here, plan to come during dim sum hours on the weekend. The biggest drawback to Gin Gin is the service. I don’t know how many people work the kitchen, but I’m assuming it’s probably one and one more person to wait tables. If you come here when it’s busy, plan to wait at least 40 minutes for your food. It’s the only reason for 3 stars in this review.

Ok where to start… rude, awful customer service, was told 20 min… became 39 min… had to inquire if it was ready… it was luke warm when I got it… too disgusting for ten dollars… should of just walked out. Don’t waste your time here.

Disappointing food and service. Local favorite has an intriguing menu of authentic Chinese items, but the hostess seemed to be on strike, with no water, no table set-ups, and a menu recommendation of Cantonese items that were just beyond the range of their northern Chinese cook. Our order of Chinese broccoli ended up chewy and stringy — even after we asked if they had tender shoots. An order of potstickers showed up in a strange dark sauce. Only the wontons were tasty although they were not actually wontons, but northern water dumplings. The entire meal would have been more satisfying except it took almost 30 minutes to get our lunch.

Ok, the Salt & Pepper Chicken Chop is the real deal! Just watch out for the hot peppers as the ratchet up the heat really quickly. They give the dish a great kick and can picked out — just be careful if you are sensitive to heat. Overall Gin Gin is very authentic. As other reviews note — this is as close to a NYC Chinese restarant as you’ll get in Buffalo. Don’t expect a lot of flash — it appear when I was there at lunch that there was only(1) woman taking orders AND doing the prep/cooking. Either the take out dish I had was a 10! Crispy, spicy chicken over a bed of white rice with scallions and a fiery fresh red pepper all chopped up. Looking forward to try other dishes. Not cheap — but not your ordinary Chinese restaurant.

Food is good however their menu prices are not accurate. I ordered an entrée for $ 9.99 and somehow ended up paying $ 14.00 for some chicken. Very annoyed.

I haven’t been here in a while My favorite dish reminiscence of SanFrancisco are the sweet pork buns Chinese eat them as a dessert I used to eat them for breakfast lunch dinner or just a snack Pork is slow cooked in a savory barbecue sauce popped into a steamed rice bun. What’s not to love? They have the basic Chinese fare but go one better My awareness of many Asian people in attendance kept my eyes roaming their plates Foods I’ve never had before Soups there are the bright side from basic wonton to exotic crab based egg drop soup True enjoyment without eating up everything in ones wallet Do explore the chalk board always has some nice surprises too GinGin. Indeed!!!

Called to place an order one hour ahead of time. When arriving there to pick it up, it still wasn’t ready. Along with that, they charged me more for using a credit card which I find unacceptable. They did not give any explanation as to why my order was not ready or why I was being charged more. Will never come back

Got charged for using credit card without telling me. Their reason for doing so was to «preserve the quality of our food»… At a chinese takeout place. Food took an hour to come. Table i was sitting at had soy sauce everywhere. Food was okay, but didnt make up for everything else. The quality is like any other takeout place.

I worked in hotels and restaurants for almost twenty years. Never in that time have i come across an establishment that charges more to use a credit or debit card. Credit card cost is a part of doing business. I’ve enjoyed your food in the past, but that one poor business decision will keep me from returning.

I grew up in NYC and in a Chinese household, Chinese food was abundant. When i decided to go to University at Buffalo for school, my food selections became very limited. Gin Gin is close to UB’s north campus so it becomes easy access for hungry college students. It’s been 7 years since I’ve graduated and from what I recalled this was my 5 star quality restaurant. It was my first time back in November 2015 after many years, I graduated in 2008. I came here with my wife raving about how great this place was and we were both very excited to taste what I once experienced so long ago. The dish I order 99% of the time is the satay chicken chop over rice and it never disappointed me. So coming back this time, I was not disappointed but it really didn’t wow me like I thought it would. My wife was actually disappointed, but it was the dish she ordered, beef or chicken with broccoli. But who orders that when they want authentic Chinese food? So her thoughts and feelings of this place was dismissed. But I would have to say, the broccoli was weird and did have a weird sweet aftertaste. When I came here many years ago, the owner herself, Gin Gin would talk to me all the time when I visited. She actually recognized me! Great for keeping your loyal customers. The restaurant was about half full, and our food took about 30 minutes to come. I don’t recall if that’s the norm, but I guess when I was a college student I didn’t really care much about time. But 30 minutes is a long time to wait if you’re hungry. So if time is a factor for you, either prepare extra time or consider something that will serve food faster. Regardless of the wait time, when I return to Buffalo, I will still come back, but will definitely account for the wait time. A must try!

What a delight! A friend had suggested this corner Chinese restaurant where you actually can sit down or take out. The caring wife of the owner told me that they had no delivery for many years … She was a cutie pie! I arrived shortly after opening and when I ordered the Hot and Sour soup she told me it was being made fresh … FRESH! Yes! And, no I did not mind waiting for a delicious freshly made pint of Hot and Sour. It’s appearance was yellowish rather this the brown I prefer but its flavors blended perfectly giving me the flavor I wanted plus a nice assortment of items on the soup. My take out chicken was full of complex flavor combinations with a little heat that made my spicy craving mouth very happy. For 60 cents extra I had brown rice. The portion was really big and I was debating saving some for a Tuesday lunch but it was too good so my chop sticks picked up every last piece of yumminess! I will be back for more and will try to get there early for FRESHSOUP even if I have to wait!

This place is absolutely delicious! Great place for bubble tea and everything Chinese. They’re clearly an authentic family owned restaurant and their food shows it. They’re not big on «American customer service» I guess I would call it. But the family tries to serve you and make you feel as comfortable as possible in their restaurant. I had the boneless ribs with fried rice today. My roommate had pepper steak with onions. Both AMAZING. Their food is made to order so you might be waiting a little longer than usual because its not like other restaurants that throw everything in the microwave and/or fryer. So sit back drink some bubble tea and wait for some amazing fresh food.(Or call before)

Absolutely awful, total waste of money. General Tso’s and Beef w/Broccoli were bland, and featured tough, overcooked chicken and beef. Pork eggroll and vegetable spring roll were overfried, hard as a rock, and contained the grossest fillings I’ve tasted to date. Ate three bites of my dinner before I decided to grab something from my own fridge instead. Save your money, or better yet, donate it to a worthy cause and cook for yourself. One last note: watch when they cash out your order. They don’t actually ring your items through the register, so perhaps they’re cooking their own books… I just hope they do it better than their actual cooking of food.

Atmosphere in the dining area is nice for this local spot with many customers coming. It appears they have some regulars that come there often. They knew the names of some of the customers. Customer service was pleasing however they are understaffed and as a result there was a 45 minute wait for chicken lo mein noodles after about a 15 minute wait with customers lined up. Food was alright I will probably try another dish and give an update only because of the number of customers there so something must taste good.

I’ve been coming here for years. The food is great. I especially recommend the«House Special Chicken Chop» or the«Salt and Pepper Chicken Chop». Great for lunch, they have pretty well priced lunch combinations.

Craving Chinese last night. This was my first time ordering from here. I live in the city, but staying near by so I figured I’d give it a try. The amount of food you get is crazy. I thinks its enough to feed 3 people. I ordered the sesame chicken. It was a bit different then any other I had. It wasn’t or horrible. We both had combos so it was accompanied a heaping pile of pork fried rice and giant egg roll. The rice was meh, but the egg roll was amazing and HUGE! My friend had the cashew chicken combo and he said it was just alright. The lady that cashed me out we very friendly. I’m not from this area so, I probably wouldn’t come back…

The food wasn’t great. I ordered the typical Tso’s lunch and the chicken was very dry. The bubble tea was awesome though! Best i’ve had in the area. I waited more than an hour and a half to get my burnt chicken. People were being served before me that I got there before. The place wasn’t busy at all so I have no idea what was going on there. Unfortunate

I think the caveat here was that I was in this place on Christmas Day, along with quite a few other people. This review is for takeout. I ordered Hong Kong dumplings and Three Stars with pan fried noodles. Both were pretty disappointing. The noodles and the dumplings were overcooked, to the point of being burned for my noodles, and the main dish was just. really bland. For $ 25, that was quite a disappointment for me. Service was nice, although the wait was long due to the holiday. I was just really let down, because everyone I know insists that this is a great place.
