should’ve known when we were the only ones in there!

I love making rouladen and I generally get my rouladen steaks at Spars. This was not the case this past Friday. NO ROULADEN for me (I know my German friend went in and bought all prior to my arrival).
Anyway, I thought I would try Federal Meats at the Southgate Plaza to see if they offered similar cuts of steak that would allow me to complete my meat rolling and stuffing agenda. Not only did they have the steaks —they were already stuffed (Polish Style) and ready to go.
Brief lesson here on styles and tastes. German Rouladen is stuffed with bacon, mustard, pickle and onion. Braised. Tasty! Polish style is Zrazy, same steak filled with stuffing mix (your choice of flavors) and also braised. Italians prefer Braccioli, kind of the same stuffing mix however cooked eggies are often added and the whole schmiel is braised in red sauce.
I’m sad that Spars sold out however I am happy that I found someone close to home who can work in a pinch.
They do offer good cuts. I believe they are pricey (my take). I have had issues with them previously however we are so over that.
For those who make soups, as I do, Federal offers ham shanks. I also saw them making their own Polish Sausage. For die hard people of Polish descent. they offer Circle U Hard Salami, and you can have it sliced on zero.

One of a chain and one of the few real butcher shops left in our area. Antibiotic free and many local sausages and mustards and condiments can be found in this shop. Cohens ryebread and in Lent, butter lambs.
This store costs a little more than the supermarket but the butchers will give you exactly what you ask for, cutting special orders whilst you wait.
The quality of meats here far exceed the better price per pound and the selection is amazing.
Get some fresh coold cuts then stroll over to Pumpernik and Pastery to make your own quality deli sandwich.
