To me my good friend Ron owns this place Looks like a dive But wait till you taste the food. Should change your mind fast Tradition fish fry Hundreds of fish frys sold on Friday but chef Todd his version of Yuengling beer batter will blow your mind Most of the times I’ve ordered beer batter it’s all batter very little fish This is more like a beer based tempura. Light batter that does not overwhelm the fish I opted for the seafood platter adding three deep fried scallops and three generous deep fried shrimp two kinds of sauces Tatar and cocktail pasta salad and French fries Do bring an extra stomach with you in order to consume it all Sharp electric crowd crosscut true buffalo from construction workers to families even art types. Seems to draw crowds like magnets Over all great place great food Good friends

Barry’s. Small bar/food joint. Best steak and dandelions in Buffalo. Stuffed peppers out of this world. The chef Todd is a gifted cook. I have ate here 20 times and have never left unsatisfied. Always full. Great wings. Ribs steak soups burgers chili turkey and a great selection. Two thumbs up.

My friend and I wound up here after the first two spots we checked out were totally full. It was a Friday night and I ordered the fish fry. It was alright. The portion of fish and accompaniments was large so good value I suppose. The flavor was just OK… like homecooking by an 80s mom. The dining room also had an 80s feel. Overall an A-Ok experience. Tip: after 9:00 beware of drunk men missing teeth that somehow think it’s acceptable to hit on any woman they see

I have to state in advance that I attended an event here and have not yet enjoyed a regular meal or drank at the bar. The event was a big success — the food was fantastic and plentiful! We had 40 people in the rear dining hall, a casual, pleasant, bright space juxtaposed with the classic divey neighborhood bar area you walk through to get there. A massive feast was laid before us, starting with typical finger food apps(crudités, cheeses, house-made Swedish meatballs, etc), followed by a dinner buffet of baked chicken, ziti with homemade sauce, mashed with two kinds of house-made gravy, roast beef, local polish sausage with ‘kraut, mixed veggies, mixed green salad, and various breads all topped off with a selection of a half dozen types of cheesecake. SOFULL. Even though the fare was mostly typical downhome cuisine, everything was cooked perfectly and well-seasoned, like dinner at grandma’s if she were a banging cook. Chef Todd graced us with his presence at several points during the festivities and received multiple rounds of applause from those in attendance. He did seem like a fairly gruff fellow, but friendly enough — like the type of guy who may give you a little crap but then laugh when you give it back to him. A good time was had by all. Many of my community group members rave about the food at this place, including the meatloaf and fish fries, among other things and I definitely plan to stop back. Cash only. They technically don’t have a lot but less than a block away is a huge lot shared by several small businesses along with Tops and Burger King.

Cheap, delicious food, gruff service and a ton of attitude. This is what you should expect at this bar. Although it’s labelled a dive bar, the interior is actually pretty homey and gives off a pretty pleasant vibe. I came in here starved for food and didn’t care much for the cheap drinks, so I can’t comment on it. As I walked in, all of the 10 gruff-looking patrons were at the bar, visibly intoxicated around 4:30p on this Wednesday afternoon. I came up and asked one of them how the food is and he commented that«it’s the best ever,» and called over the chef, who was wearing a white chef coat and hat. I asked the chef what he would recommend and he looked at me and replied in a bit of a patronizing tone, that«everything is good» and that he would recommend«the chef’s special.» I then proceeded to ask him what goes into the chef’s special, to which he came back with«are you illiterate?»(in what I think was an Irish accent) and pointed to the whiteboard at the front. I remarked that I was in a hurry and asked him how long the food would take and he said it was hot on the stove, so I ordered a ½lb of the Chef’s Special(which was meatloaf, with mashed potatoes, corn, mushrooms) all for only $ 7. I sat down on the wobbly chairs and he came out with the food a few minutes later. I tried not to wonder what the kitchen was like as I tasted the food and… damn, it was probably the best meat loaf I have ever had. Not too salty, the meat tender as it should be and the mashed potatoes so hearty and delicious. The meat loaf exalted me to a heaven far beyond as it was honestly so damn good. Did not expect that here. While I was eating, one of the women who worked there, a more pleasant older lady came by and thanked me for ordering food(as if this was some sort of oddity here). I had dinner, paid in cash and left super pleased. Definitely an interesting neighborhood bar here in Black Rock, don’t pass it by – it’s a great cheap dinner option!
