AJ’s serves Jamaican food near downtown Buffalo… and … the food is delectable. It’s delicious, phenomenal and all the other positive adjectives that you may want to throw in. Yum. The problems is that the food is pre-made ahead of time in a large pot(which is understandable), but also that this place is so tiny you won’t really be able to sit down and enjoy yourself with friends. If you’re going here with a group of people, your only option may be to grab take out and head to a nearby park(if the weather is good). When I came here for lunch, I ordered a large plate of oxtails. It came to a little over $ 10 and I got a huge container that lasted me through the whole day(it goes without saying I had a lot of leftovers after lunch). The only issue with the oxtails are that they are super bony and it seems that most of my plate was filled up with rice and beans and only a handful of meat(and mostly bones), which was a bit disappointing. Despite that, the person working behind the counter was really friendly and even let my friend and I sample some jerk chicken wings(which were delicious, although maybe a little too salty for my tastes). My friend ordered a smaller plate of jerk chicken, which he thoroughly enjoyed. despite being stung by a wasp as we were eating our food out by the park(so I guess wasps like this food, which probably means it’s pretty good). As someone who’s not super accustomed to Jamaican food, this was a great introduction. I just wish the place was bigger and I could sit down in here, but it’s a great addition to the west side of Buffalo.
