I’ve always had great experiences with taco trucks/shacks, so I was stoked when I saw there was one opening down the street from me. Their tacos are cheap and they taste decent enough, although I was definitely expecting better. The tacos were small, but I couldn’t complain too much since the price was fair. However, the guy working there is kinda rude and he always opened and closed pretty much whenever he felt like. Definitely did not look like the owner from an article in the paper. They have a sign with their hours, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them actually abide by them. Decent food, good price, poor customer service, and you never know if they’ll be open or not. The Airstream disappeared a week or two ago, but their sign is still there, so who knows what’s going on. I’ll be happy to keep going to Chavelo’s instead.

we stopped by, tried the fish taco, club taco, and a bfast one. tacos were fine, not standout. salsa sucked(tasted like they use pureed canned tomato for it). but mostly, the guy at the window — big bushy beard(didn’t look like the picture of the owner in hay freepress article online, but maybe it was just the beard) was kind of an a-hole. not friendly in the least. i can deal w/bad service if the food is spectacular, possibly even vice versa. but average food and below average service are a waste. i have a hard time giving money to anyone who can’t muster up a tiny bit of civility.

Standard taco flavors. It is located in a busy section of 1626 that you can easily miss it. They pride themselves in using fresh organic ingredients(or so I read in some article). For $ 1.75 you can choose two ingredients for your breakfast taco. I had one chorizo & potato taco and it’s not quite fair to rate them over one taco, but that’s all I could eat. These tacos are served well and extremely hot! I had to wait a couple of minutes to let it cool off. Salsa was again standard and nothing special. They also serve lunch-type tacos and I hope to come back and try them. WTF Moment: My corn tortilla was a little tough, like it was getting stale or he left it on the comal a little too long.
