The winter farmer’s market should not be missed. There are a lot of the same vendors that are at the Saturday market at Crystal Springs Farm in the summer. It’s a great way to pick up seasonal local veggies in the winter. Aside from produce, there are vendors selling meat, spices, baked goods, burritos, olive oil, honey, hard cider and mead, and crafts. Go early because it is busy and the parking lot fills up quickly! And don’t forget your bags because you won’t leave empty handed!

History lessons with Steffasaurus: Fort Andross, a trading post for fur trappers and fort against invasion during the pre-revolutionary war days, was built along the Androscoggin River in Brunswick in the late 17th century. In the early 1800’s the mill — as it would become — was purchased for textiles. And in the mid-1980’s it was bought by Waterfront Maine. It has manufactured everything from shoes to woven fiberglass, and is now the home to law firms, non-profits, office suites, and more. I dig old mills. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a mill town and appreciate the generations that came before me to work at these mills all in an effort to give their children, and their children’s children, a better life. I guess, in a really profound way, mills gave me the opportunity to have a better life than my ancestors did. I particularly like this mill. I want to film a horror movie or a documentary about the people who once worked here. In reality, I’m quite content just partaking in: — Cabot Mill Antiques(a 16,000+ square foot area housing vintage and antique items of all sorts from frames to clothing to toys and furniture) — the Winter Farmers’ Market(which takes place every Saturday morning from November through April with over 50 vendors offering dairy, meats, f&v, and more) — And, especially, Frontier Café(which is a versatile art house with amazing food and equally impressive views of the river) If you’re a Mainer who hasn’t explored Fort Andross(inside and out), you really ought to. It’s still got that charm of an old mill/fort, while housing some really great businesses. There’s parking, natural beauty from the river, and the convenience of being super close to Brunswick’s Maine Street community. Definitely one of my favorite places in the state!
