It had been years since I had Indian food and my fiancé had never tried it, so we decided to test out Bombay Mahal. It was awesome! First there is a great atmosphere with fun ceiling tiles and decorations all along the walls(including the many awards they have won). You start off the meal with some flat bread and condiments(which were all delicious!) and then have to decide on your entrée from the lengthy menu which includes chicken, vegetarian and lamb specialties. The staff was great about answering my questions about the food and helping me determine how spicy I wanted my dish to be(I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, mild spice — it’s amazing). We loved the basmati rice too — it’s so different from any other kind of rice we might cook at home. Although I loved the food, my fiancé was not super impressed because there was cilantro in everything… which meant his food tasted like soap. Either way — I can’t wait to go back and support a local, family owned business!

I like the decorations and design of this restaurant, which included the family matriarch taking a table for four when there was a line to be seated(I respect the culture, but business wise, I saw people walk out when there was no seating). Initial service was timely, and we were excited to eat some Indian food in Maine(we lived here for almost 6 years, and usually opt for Thai of Sushi). I would say the food was mediocre overall, as far as quality and tastiness of food. The garlic nan was good, a little«fluffier» vs other nan I have had. I found the rest of the food to be both bland and overly salty, really missing the rich spices that I expect in Indian food. My daughter had dal, and it was bland, the lentils a little undercooked, not richly spiced. The samosas were oily and also bland. My husband chose the mixed tandori grill(why, carnivore man, why?) and iit appeared to be mostly chicken, he ordered extra hot and spicy and he said it would rank about a «2″/ 10 on the spice scale. Ah, well, we will try the other Indian restaurant in Brunswick and let you know…

I was so pleased with this restaurant and the wonderful service. Coming from Jersey, I am surrounded by indian restaurants everywhere, and this was a wonderful choice in a town that I would never expect to find such delicous indian cuisine. I adored the authentic yet simple décor as well and the staff was attentive. Felt like home away from home coming here! The dishes were all so flavorful and everything was prepared well. I will certainly be coming back on my next visit to ME!

By far the best Indian Restaurant in the Portland, Maine region. I travel from Manhattan often and this is one of my favorite places to come than any city. The level for the food and service is amazing and I always make sure I stop by to eat here anytime I’m in the city.

A great Indian food experience. The atmosphere was a bit plain, but the menu and the food made us forget this issue right away. The lamb was perfect, and the spices were exquisite. Outstanding and authentic.

We stopped by the weekend lunch buffet. I am a fairly new to experiencing indian food, so I was delighted to try all the wonderfully exciitng spices and authentic flavors. The restaurant has a lovely décor with elephant stautes, colorful fabrics on the ceiling and relaxing atmosphere. The staff are friendly and attentive. They offered lots of insight about the ingredients and food combinations. They made suggestions with different sauces and made sure we had plenty of naan. The buffet provided an oppurtunity to try multiple dishes, all of which were delicious. There are vegetarian options and even dessert.

Went in for a weekend lunch buffet that cost around $ 12. I’ve never seen a buffet with such small selections(around 6 main dishes)! They all tasted very similar, but decent – typical Indian cuisine with spices. Tandoori chicken was disappointing, as it was not warm at all. I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant, but it was SOHOT! It was a hot day(around 80 – 90 degrees), and the AC didn’t seem to be running. As you can imagine, eating warm/spicy food in a stuffy/hot room is not ideal. Our waiter was friendly. Mango lassi was delicious, but quite small in amount.

Fantastic food. I had a reliable standard dish, Chicken Tikka Masala and an order of Garlic Naan. You can’t find flavor like this elsewhere in town. Delicious.

Their 12.00 lunch buffet is a great deal, with three different entrees, a soup, naan, onion bajis and of course, rice, delicately flavored with exotic spices. I love to get takeout from here. The curries always reheat nicely and I recently discovered that the naan reheats perfectly in the toaster! Their Malai Kofta(veggie meatballs) is the best I’ve ever had. Their chicken korma is spectacular. Their lamb always tastes tender and fresh. I have never been disappointed in their food and I have eaten there many times. Their Mulligatawny Soup is also delicious. Just writing this review makes me want to make a special trip to Brunswick!

I love, love, love this place! Everything that I’ve had here is incredible. I also enjoy the ambiance and the music playing in the background. The staff is always very helpful and very nice. They are always eager to answer questions, offer suggestions, and they’ll also veganise many of the dishes if they can. This is a wonderful place.

I am not up in Brunswick often, but when I am this is my go to place. Everything tastes very fresh. Maybe it’s because I have been eating Indian food more — but it was great to come here and taste the difference in spices compared to other Indian restaurants. The staff here was great — they noticed we were getting low on rice in proportion to the amount of meal we had left and they offered to bring out more. The Chicken Saag and Tikki Masala were hearty and spicy — everything I want in Indian food. It’s a cozy place.

Very impressive food! Totally delicious. We called ahead while on a road-trip and picked it up passing through Brunswick. We had Channa Masala, Shahi Korma, and Garlic Nan. We asked for both main dishes to be between medium and hot in terms of spiciness level, and the chef totally nailed it. The flavors were incredible, the food was steaming hot, everything was neatly packaged for takeout, and the side of rice was perfect. The owner of the restaurant was the person who handed us the takeout and he was exceptionally pleasant. Wish I lived closer so that I could go back! I question the taste of people who give this place few stars. :-)

I had a great meal at Bombay Mahal. The lamb vindaloo was very spicy exactly the way I like it. The nan bread was very good. I like the fact that they have outdoor seating and a large beer list. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. If you like Indian food this is a great choice.

Our group was in town to play the Saltwater Celtic Festival. We have a tradition of finding Indian restaurants while on tour, so we’ve had the lot. This place was a gem. Everybody’s dish was exquisite, very well made, the flavors were noticeably explosive. Even the ones in our group who enjoy the«hurt me» spicy hot were pleased. The owner/chef chatted us up at the end of the mean; he was very cool and explained his technique to us about freshly flavoring each dish to order(we could see him back in the kitchen preparing our meals, looking every bit the mad scientist!) Couldn’t recommend this joint more. When in Southeastern Maine, go here for Indian food.

By far the best Indian food in the region. I’ve always had their masala tea — perfection! Their naan is cooked just right, as is their roti. They make great curries, their lamb is always cooked in a mouthwatering way, and tandoori and paneers are delicious! Will definitely go again as soon as the opportunity arises!

We are lucky to have two Indian restaurants in Brunswick. Bombay has flavorful breads, good solid friendly service and consistent quality. It is like eating in NYC or Bangalore? Heck no. Its slightly Americanized Indian food, like most here in Maine. Is it good… yes. Take out is solid, Eat in is good. Avoid buffets for obvious reasons.

This is our second time eating here… the first was the weekend buffet. The food is great! Service can be a little slow, but everyone is very friendly. On this trip, we had nan, palak paneer, channa masala, and a mango lassi. Everything was very delicious! For the spice level, we chose hot. As much as we love spicy food, the medium plus might have been the better choice. Any hotter and it might have become uncomfortable! And while some might feel the food is a bit pricey, we always get another meal out of the leftovers. That makes it A-OK in my book. Nice little outside seating area, as well.

We went there for the lunch buffet that they have on Saturday’s and Sunday’s. After looking at the buffet and the price 11.00 per person, we opted to just eat off of the lunch menu. When we walked through the door there were two waitresses that told us we could sit anywhere, so we did. After waiting for over ten minutes a waitress finally came over to our table, She never even brought us complimentary water, just the menus. After about being there for fifteen minutes, she finally took our order, along with pushing us to get some breads. My bf was starving so we did order some naan, BEWARE, they will offer you a mint or mango chutney to go with the naan, it’s an additional $ 5! The food was decent when it came out, I wasn’t amazed by it. Plus, down the street is Shere Punjab and their food is 10x better. The service here was awful, I couldn’t eat all of my dish so I asked for a to go box. As she was clearing the table she took the rice I was planning on taking home. This place is just OK, i won’t be going back anytime soon.
