If you’re looking for great Mexican food without having to pay a lot this place isn’t for you. This place is way over priced and the portion of what you get is so so little. They charged for chips and salsa which is kinda unusual and their coffee is two dollars with only two refills. I would have felt better if the food matched up with how expensive it is. Skip this place. You’re better off going to Peter Pipers next door.

This restaurant is a wonderful place! Great food and kind/happy service from the waiters. The tortillas are homemade and delicious. I had the eggs rancheros, I would have taken a picture of it, but it was so good I ate it all up. Definitely would come here again!!!

Aint no diner like a south Texas diner. We were looking for food — any food — and the Toddle Inn came highly recommended. I mean, it’s called the Toddle Inn and I’ve got a soft spot in my heart for anything with a punny name. We entered, were sat, were served giant waters and ordered. Then learned the had wifi. Miracle of miracles! I connected and we commenced pinteresting out the backyard of our current renovation property. We didn’t wait long though. Our breakfast/lunch arrived promptly and the plates were giant. I mean, usually plates like this play host to racks of lamb. In this case, chilaquiles and fajitas. Both of our meals were great, our server was sweet and the prices were damn good. I’d totally come back to this place… and not only because the slogan is «We give flavor justice!»

I ate breakfast twice at the Toddle Inn. Why? It’s like the only breakfast place in Brownsville that isn’t Denny’s or IHOP, plus it was highly recommended on Unilocal, with someone quipping that the food was so good it was«toddle inn and waddle out.» I should have paid attention to the fact that it only had a handful of reviews. Anyways, the place has cheap Mexican breakfasts and a fascination with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Department. An old man greets you upon entry; he’ll be sitting in a booth, sipping coffee. I figured he’s the owner, but there is an outside possibility he’s just practicing for a job as a Walmart door greeter. Morning number one I ordered the huevos rancheros. The salsa made it watery, the refried beans were cold, and the flour tortilla was monster-sized, making it convenient to mop-up that salsa. They gave me my choice of two deserts; I can’t remember what I got. Morning number two, I had a house-specialty — chilaquiles — fried tortilla strips with cheese. It was bland. I thought there would be egg, but apparently there wasn’t. I don’t know if I’d eat here again. The dead animals mounted on the wall and the smell of sewage wafting in sure are downers. On the other hand, on weekdays you get desert with your breakfast!

We tried the chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and pork chop — all of them tasted so homey and delicious!

Their sign is slightly difficult to see but the restaurant is directly under the tall Peter Piper sign. Walk in and seat yourself anywhere. The food is authentic, traditional Mexican, very delicious, and the tortillas are huge. I ordered the Migas Monterrey and savored every bite.

Toddle in and waddle out. I guess this one must be an acquired taste or something because I didn’t find the food to be any better than any other restaurant in the area. In fact, I thought some of it was worse. I vaguely remember trying this restaurant a few years ago and was not terribly impressed, but my bf likes to eat breakfast out so I decided to try it again because of the excellent Unilocal reviews. What a disappointment. Seriously, the food was nothing special. My bf said the beans tasted like they were from a can.(Don’t ALL refried beans come from a can? LOL, they did back in Kansas). The flour tortillas were big, but again, nothing special. And the hash browns? Sure, they’re just like mom makes. .. if you’re mom’s hash browns are completely saturated through and through with grease and aren’t crispy at all. Quite frankly, my mom would be EMBARRASSED to try to pass something like that off as acceptable food. The best thing about the restaurant was the excellent service. The chatty, hard-working waitresses happily buzzed from table to table like a bunch of hummingbirds. They were truly awesome. Oh, and the complimentary arroz con leche was perfectly creamy and delicious.

Amazing We live in California but whenever we get to the valley we make a point of drooping on at the toddle as much as possible. The food is as tex mex as you cans get and the atmosphere is perfect It’s like stopping by on some old friends. Breakfast tacos are awesome. Chile rielllno is top shelf. You can’t go wrong no matter what you order

This is the only place that makes Mexican breakfast like my dearly departed mom made it – with absolutely no regard for excess calories! My favorite dish is the huge flour-tortilla breakfast taco(with the scrambled egg and bacon crammed in). I can actually eat about 4 of these monsters if the health-conscious California wife doesn’t stop me! Paired with a hot cup of coffee and you can’t go wrong in the morning. I also recommend you try the free salsas, they are amazingly good and authentic, as is the complimentary arroz con leche I got out of the blue after my meal on my last visit in August 2013(because, you know, I probably didn’t get enough calories gorging myself on the tacos). Although I live in California these days, I make a pilgrimage to TI whenever I swing through town to visit the crazy relatives. There is simply no other place like it. It has the wisdom to stick to what it does best — good, cheap breakfast in a clean setting that reminds you of your childhood. A word of caution to people who THINK they know Mexican food– this place specializes in a subset of that cuisine: homemade breakfast as made in NE Mexico and South Texas, with some Tex-Mex thrown in. Moreover, most of the clientele are local, retired Mexican-American elites who meet regularly at this place. Don’t expect your chips-and-salsa crowd or trendy menus. This place is strictly for insiders who know good, local morning food. Don’t be loud, try different things, be patient with the staff(they really try hard), and tip big. Before you know it, you’ll be a regular too.

Love the breakfast here. My adult children always ask to come to the Toddle Inn when they come back to Brownsville. Try the silver spur taco. It’s delicious.

This is a Sunday tradition for my husband and I. The food is always delicious and it is very very reasonably priced. I usually have the chilequilles, just absolutely amazing! Def worth a try if you come to Brownsville for a visit.

My absolute favorite place for breakfast in Brownsville. The flour tortillas are like a fine French pastry — full of lard I’m sure — but oh so good. Personal favorite is dried beef and eggs mexicana.

I picked this place based on reviews, I figured 2 out of 2 was good enough … I was loved it! I had the«El Mexicano» plate, the waitress suggested it, she said it was popular with patrons, well I can see why … it is tasty all meat barbacoa, hash browns, beans and two eggs it also comes with a GINORMOUS flour tortilla!!! I took a pick next to a ketchup bottle just to give you an idea of how big it is :) … Everything was tasty, the service was good and friendly. They do take credit cards! I checked it out on my phone and it said no credit cards so just FYI they do. I have to say I will be back :)

Toddle Inn is breakfast heaven. I’ve been coming here since I was a child and when I return to brownsville this is where I come. Sure they have lunch, and its good, but man their breakfast is just great. The flour tortillas are huge, bigger than the plate, and i’ve never eaten anything bad here.
