Visiting Texas(haven’t seen these anywhere else) and came across this gem. I got the ½lb lean brisket and I thought it was cool that they asked me how many slices of bread I wanted(& could ask for more if I wanted) with a side of red potatoes. Price was great and the lean brisket was great as well. Friendly staff and good food, with great prices. The day I went it was before lunch so there wasn’t many people there but I also bought their sauce to take home with me! They also have a great beer selection & drinks. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Briskets are all slow roasted in hickory smoke overnight, leaving a rich smoked BBQ flavor in the briskeys along with a wide selection of other cooked meats to choose from. Overall, everything tastes great although we’ve tasted juicier briskets. But even though, don’t let that discourage you. Ask for the carver to select the juicier cuts for you, otherwise you’ll get a run-of-the-mill cut. We recommend: –Ribs are the best of their selections here –Jalapeño sausage –Pecan Pie for dessert… to die for! BREAKFAST You wouldn’t think it but this BBQ joint serves some mean brisket and eggs tacos. Stop by one morning and grab a few with a hot cup of coffee!

I get to come here when I come Down to Brownsville for work. This place is great because of the taste, price and the service is quick. Nothing like this place back in Michigan… I love it!

I enjoy eating at Rudy’s at least two times a week because of it’s laid back atmosphere. However, today, when I went to go eat supper I had the most horrible experience. As I was about to eat my dinner I noticed a roach crawling on the table. I brought it up to the manager’s attention and all he did was smile. At this point, I feel as if my complaint was brushed off and the manager did not have a worry in the world about the perception he was showing me. I am appalled by the customer service that was displayed today and moving forward. I will no longer be going to Rudy’s and I will inform everybody that I know of the customer service I received today.

First time at Rudys. Nothing special for the price. Not a fan of there only being 2 sauce choices. Probably won’t go back.

Loved the ambiance. The place is a converted gas station garage. Family style seating. Try the smoked turkey, pulled pork, or brisket. Totally worth it. The beans were bland. But otherwise, the experience was pleasant.

This place is great — very laid back, excellent food. Came here with a local supplier that wanted to show me Texas Barbecue(I’m from NC).Texas Q is different from Carolina Q and I love that Texas brisket!!! Portions are weighed, quality and flavors of the meats, we had the brisket and sausage, both wonderful. Not fine dining — picnic tables and paper plates, but the food was excellent.

Love me some brisket and turkey from Rudy’s. Staff is great, they always welcome you as you enter and leave the facility. Potato salad is great, personality I wish it was a bit more tangy, but it’s still good. Green chili stew is a must try, it does have a slight kick to it and is quite hearty.

Great product and awesome service. I have had most of the stuff on the menu here since I work nearby and they offer refills for 75 cents on the large drinks if you bring the cup back for your next visit.

Great BBQ. Small menu but perfected every idem of the menu. Pulled pork moist and tangy. Brisket tender and smoky flavor, and the smoked sausage is so good. They’re sides cream corn and green chili support the meat proteins. And you must try the peach cobbler, so southern and so BBQ.

Very poor experience tonight. Got a to go order. When I got home the«lean» brisket was literally half fat. Out of my cup of beans I got less than 5 teaspoons of beans. The rest was liquid. This is not the first time this has happened to me, but hopefully I have finally learned my lessen. I have been to Rudy’s in many other cities and they are consistently good. The Brownsville Rudy’s, is simply not the same and cannot be counted on. I have had good food here, but it is very very spotty. Unless you like taking risk, I would recommend staying away.

Great BBQ and Great service every time. I realize this a chain, but thankfully each location is a little different. That being said when a person eats at Rudy’s they know what they are gonna get! Great tasting great quality Texas BBQ.

This is what I would refer to as «chain BBQ» not«pit master BBQ” – it will do in a pinch but you won’t be writing home about it. I am a regular because there aren’t many other options in town that are better but there are better. Most of the meats are moist and well prepared and have the smoky taste and the sauce has two flavors«Original Sause» and«Sissy Sause» neither is too spicy but the Sissy as is the sweeter of the two. My favorite is the brisket but the ribs are OK as well. They are served dry with the sauce on the side so you can decide how you want to eat them. Recently I was caught by surprise that Rudy’s serves breakfast tacos! I never would have though that brisket would pair so well with eggs but from 7 to 10 this is a great option to start your day. For the reviewer who commented«when in Texas I needed to have BBQ» keep in mind the region is really known for their barbacoa rather than their BBQ. If you have had REALLYGREATBBQ you will likely be disappointed but if you expect good BBQ rather than GREAT your expectations will be met.

If I’m ever in my home state, I just gotta drop by a Rudy’s if I see one. We were in town visiting SPI and we drove out of our way just to get some BBQ. MMM Brisket.

Come here for some reliable, good olé’ bbq! Yummm the brisket was great, the potato salad was ok, and you just seat yourself. Friendly service and a couple of sauces to try out as you dine in!

I love good Texas BBQ, and when my colleague and I stumbled upon Rudy’s for lunch during a recent business trip to Brownsville my palate was ready. Unfortunately it left disappointed. Here is one nice feature: you can order brisket moist, brisket lean(sliced from the bottom half of the brisket), or brisket cutters choice. I ordered brisket lean. It was actually quite good, and if the rest of the meal had lived up to the brisket they would have earned more stars. My meal was rounded out with sausage, cole slaw, and Rudy’s beans, none of which were all that impressive. The sausage was nothing special — compare with sausage offered at almost any small-town Texas BBQ joint and you’ll know exactly what I mean. The cole slaw, to me, had virtually no flavor — although my business colleague proclaimed it some of the best he’s had. I guess cole slaw is somewhat personal. Rudy’s beans were OK, but again, somewhat bland. They improved when I added a bit of BBQ sauce. Rudy’s offers two sauces, available at your table. The«sissy» sauce is somewhat sweet and the regular sauce has a bit of a kick to it — but neither rank anywhere near what I would consider«best in class» for Texas BBQ. All if this with a medium iced tea(unlimited refills) cost around $ 14 — a bit steep for an overall lackluster experience IMO. I left full but disappointed.

We have several awesome Rudy’s in the Austin but this one was a disappointment. The food was just barely«OK». The meats had good flavor but were not perfectly warmed like we have come to expect from other Rudy’s. The sides were all good but the meat temp was not a good foundation. We didn’t feel like complaining about the meat temperature as we had two hungry toddlers with us and just had to go with it. I will also add that the service was just«OK». Nothing too bad, just a general feeling that no one wanted to be there. Maybe it was because it was Christmas eve but it was not a welcoming environment.

The last place I went to on my Brownsville business trip. Came here right before the airport. I couldn’t come to Texas and not get bbq, right? AMBIANCE– place reminded me of a less kitschy Cracker Barrel. The place was full of picnic tables and red and white table cloth. Nothing fancy, just functional. SERVICE– you order your food at the counter, and the people at the counter were friendly. MENU– place sold meat by the pound, or sandwiches. they had brisket, turkey, sausage, pork loin and ribs. They also had typical sides(potato salad, beans, etc.) and some decent looking dessert(banana pudding, pecan pie, etc…). FOOD– I ended up getting a brisket sandwich while my co-worker got a chopped beef sandwich. The brisket seemed a little dry to me, and the sauces they had at the table didn’t really seem to help. I got a side of potato salad which tasted like it came from an HEB. OVERALL– wish I had gone to a different place for bbq. Oh well, maybe next business trip. Celebrity Rating– Charles S. Dutton
