My favorite sushi restaurant in town. The rolls are always cooked perfectly… Sometimes the yakimeshi rice will come out differently, but overall i always leave happy!

This Easter weekend I had come down from Houston to visit my parents, and they were craving sushi. They were excited to take me to this place since they claimed it was better than the usual sushi bar they go to in Harlingen; I believe the place was called Hime. Anyway, while I understand that Brownsville is still up and coming when it comes to authentic Asian cuisine, I don’t believe that excuses some of the poor service that my parents and I had to deal with. Let me start with the ambiance. Because the blinds were closed, it wasn’t easy to distinguish if the restaurant was open until we drove close enough to see the neon red open sign. There are booths to the left and right sides of the room, and the tables placed are in the middle. It seems though that personal space isn’t much of a priority as it’s a bit cramped for my taste. I can easily reach my hand backward and touch the other table. I suppose the décor was alright; however, I was just too preoccupied with how little room I can move without bumping into someone else. As for the service. Wow. You would think that these servers were not trained at all as they didn’t even show us to our table. As I ordered, the server had a difficult time explaining how big the portions were as I was deciding whether to get the full or half order of sashimi. I ended up just getting the full order since I still had no idea how large the portion would be. It’s usually customary in Japanese restaurants for orders to come with miso soup; however, I had to take the initiative and ask the waiter for our soups. Had I not asked, we would’ve never gotten a free side order of miso. That’s not the best part though. The waiter didn’t even give us spoons! If I wanted to drink straight from the bowl, I could’ve at least had the option to use a spoon or not. It just seemed a little ridiculous that the service was just so poor. As for the food, meh. I’ve had better, in taste and size wise. I honestly think you should just save your money for Kohnami’s lunch special bento boxes. They’re a great buy for $ 9 – 11!

But far the best sushi in Brownsville! They have a large selection and everything is very fresh. You will not be disappointed!

This is probably the best sushi you’ll get in the region. A ridiculous selection of rolls, sashimi, and fantastic spicy sauce. Would I go back? Without question, yes! This place has something for everyone, get the Fiji Roll and dunk it in their fantastic hot sauce, or go sweet and savory with a fruit-loaded Hawaii Roll. If you are turned off by the fact that they don’t serve you a spoon with your finger bowl of miso(they will give you one by request), just go somewhere else. This place is for those who love food and sushi as it was meant to be eaten.
