A Better Garage Door

A better garage door installed three garage doors for me and they were extremely professional, they did a phenomenal job. I have recommended them to my friends and family.
They have worked great for about six maybe seven years now and still going strong, I have had them do a basic service on my garage doors and springs once since they have been installed.

We had a our garage door and opener go out and needed it replaced. We called Mike to come out and he gave us a quote and we waited until we saved up for the job. Mike is a nice guy and he honored his price. The only thing that keeps me from stating a 5 star vs a 3 star is the two gentlemen that came out to do the work were not too friendly. I have been in service for 25 years and I have worked for the past 19 years in customers homes, and I think that a smile and Hello, goes a long way, especially when the customer is spending almost $ 2,000.00.
We heard that someone would arrive around 11 am and we asked for a half hour call ahead, the two guys that showed were somewhat nice but did not really say, «Hi» or look me in the eye while they shook my hand. We served them coffee, gave them a tip, told them where the guest bathroom was, kept our dogs away and tried to start a small conversation to break the ice. While I was scrambling to move my items, I did not expect them to help, but the older gentleman seemed to stand in the way, I asked him to kindly move and he did not seem to get out of the garage while I was trying to get them in the garage to work. Not much seemed to work with trying to be helpful to them.
I was probably a little annoyed and hope I did not show this. We explained in advance, a couple of days before the job, by calling Mike, that we needed time to unload parts of the side of the garage and we needed a minimum of a half hour window, there was only given a 10 to 15 minute call ahead and they showed up an hour and a half early. I told them they were too early and they did not seem to care. This was a little stressful because of the weather and the snow, so there was not a way for us to unload the garage the night before.
I would of preferred to know who was coming out to my house and would have preferred a two hour window. Again, Mike is a good guy, just think that the communication needs to be worked on and explained ahead of time who is coming to my home. I think it is important to small talk and make a customer feel welcomed in his own garage. Not sure I will hire them again.

I found them a few years back when they were installing an exterior keypad for my neighbor’s garage door. I went over to ask if the guy could come by my place afterwards to look at my garage doors — they were so noisy when they went up and down. He was over in about 30 minutes, but since it was the end of the work day for him, he recommended I schedule a tuneup service, which would take about an hour for both my garage doors (a single and a double). The price he quoted was around $ 60 for both doors. I scheduled the tuneup for two weeks out.
In the meantime, one of springs on my double bay door gave up the ghost. Lucky for me, my car wasn’t IN the garage when it broke, as I can’t lift the door by myself. I called Mike, the owner of A Better Garage Door, and he was able to rescheduled all my work into one service call for two days later. I had tuneups on the door lifts, rollers and chains, and new springs for both doors installed — all the springs were 20 years old, so no longer safe.
Now I need a new exterior keypad too, as mine finally quit working (it used to just crap out during the winter), and I need another tuneup on all the moving parts, they are getting loud again. It must be kismet that Mike was able to book Joe (one of his techs) to come over tomorrow morning, and Mike gave me a great price quote too. He said he’s got a coupon running now on Angie’s List (but I use Unilocal,of course). I told him to book me in. However, just to be sure the price was competitive, I scoured Unilocal and other online sites, and made a few calls too. Sure enough, I couldn’t find anyone who could match or beat Mike’s quote. No need to go anywhere else! Just call Mike! Good thing I keep Mike’s sticker by the garage door buttons inside the garage.
