We always stop in when we’re in Broomall. The best toy store in the world… it’s not a trip to the city unless we buy a toy, watch the fun demos everywhere & check out the legos, the piano, so much more. The collection of wind-up toys on my desk isn’t big enough yet! When can I go back and get more? Must stop when you are in Broomall.

I stumbled across this place at their recent tent sale and wound up walking out with around $ 30 of wooden Thomas trains for my son. The owner spent a lot of time talking to me and was willing to answer my questions. I can’t imagine him not having anything a train buff would need. Then, a little over a month later, I brought my 2 year old son and wife here to buy him his first train set for his birthday. The owner, again, was as nice as can be and invited my son to play with the Thomas trains on the tables as long as he wanted. We then walked out with another $ 70 of merchandise. My wife has now told me she never wants to go to Toys R Us again. I think I agree. This is a local family business that is definitely worthy of your support, and will be a destination trip for my family hopefully for years to come.

I absolutely love this place! The downstairs has cool model cars and die casts as well. The upstairs is where I spend my time. The train selection is the best. I have been coming here for around 20 years. Their prices are cheaper than the online clearance sites and always have a nice preowned section as well. If you haven’t been to Nicholas Smith, what are you waiting for! You won’t be disappointed!

Great toy store and great train shop. Forget the mall! Amazing cool toys EVERYWHERE! train store upstairs is for train nerds only(a good thing) they have it all. Not super helpful in the phone in regards to the toy store below(they are separate… I guess) I wish they would advertise more because everyone needs to come here. I can spend 2 hours here, and buy nothing. But I do.

The best model train shop I have ever been in, and I have been I them around North America. The toy section just pushes it over the top. Sensory overload. This is the place.

Oh c’mon. Comparing this place to Toys R Us? This is a fantasy-land, not a warehouse of commercial shovelware! A five-star restaurant, not a same-anywhere diner. A palace with everything-you-didn’t-know-you-needed, not everything-you-don’t-want. Old-world, not a sterile cavern. Go. You’ll be back.

My Son and I take a trip here from time to time to check out the train stuff and to buy more HO buildings, trains or any other train stuff. Great store. Love it here

Stepping into this store is, at least for me, a trip back to my childhood. The toy store on the first floor(the model train store is upstairs) is very small by Toys-R-Us standards, but its narrow aisles are crammed with the kinds of old-fashioned toys I used to play with, or longed for. My favorites are the die cast models of planes and tanks. I’ve fulfilled some of my childhood dreams, buying some of these die cast toys that I couldn’t afford as a kid. I guess it’s true what they say: that the only difference between boys and men are the price of their toys…

HA! Vindication! As I was in the Library leafing through the latest Best of Philly magazine(what, you think I would actually buy it!?) There, in the best of kids section, under the best dad and child destination, is Nick Smith Trains. I always knew I was ahead of my time.
