I went to this studio a few years ago because they had a Groupon deal(or maybe it was Living Social, not sure) for 5 ballet classes. I had been searching for a studio in Brooklyn close to my apartment that offered adult classes and was so happy to find this spot. I think I only took two classes before getting hit by a truck on my bike, and breaking my foot. When I realized the deal would expire before I healed I called and asked if they would be willing to extend it for me, and they kindly did. When I did return, the teacher took extra care to remind me to take it easy on that foot, and modify when needed. I really appreciated it!

This is my daughter’s 4th year at WMAAC and we love it as much as the first day. She is in their Young Performers Company now and she has grown incredibly as a dancer since she started. The teachers are very professional, serious, warm and understanding. The classes are excellent. I feel very lucky we have a dance school of such great quality in our neighborhood. I couldn’t ask for more! Graciela

From a twirly tapping toddler to a long and lean nine year old, WMAAC has taught my daughter dance techniques with grace and poise. She applies her acquired Horton fundamentals on the dance floor, the playground and the kitchen. Lakey, Stephanie, Nicky, Lindsey, Josef, Gabriela and the staff at WMAAC have given my daughter the moves and confidence on her journey through life. She tangos in airports, taps in grocery stores, flat backs everywhere and points her toes to the stars.

We first brought our 2-year-old daughter here after having heard about it on the Brooklyn Baby Hui, and the experience was overwhelmingly awesome. Keeping in mind how tough it is to wrangle a roomful of tots, the dance instructor was impressive in her focus and engagement, laying the foundation of a classic ballet experience. Music included some of the childhood classic tunes we all know by heart, as well as classical piano standards and even a lovely instrumental version of «Here Comes the Sun.» Even when a few of the children began to become distracted, our instructor managed to ramp up the interest level with ribbons and participatory exercises. Getting just one kid to pay attention is a big enough challenge, so I was in awe to see what a pro could do. Immediately, we felt like we had been welcomed into a little community. All the staff members we encountered were friendly and helpful, which I especially appreciate in such a chaotic situation as a herd of families arriving and a little bewildered. My only wish is that the space were larger, but otherwise this is a wonderful neighborhood dance school. Well done!

This place is great, and the teachers are amazing! I bring my 16 month-old daughter here for a weekly class. I know 16 months sounds young, but she was always rocking along to music at home so I decided to try it out. After 3 or 4 classes she was actually catching on to all the songs and dance moves, and now it’s her favorite activity. It is amazing to see her progress every week, and she couldn’t do it without the love and patience of the fantastic instructors.

Love this place. I live in the neighborhood and was looking for a fun class that did not involve subway travel or the outrageous prices of many Manhattan dance studios. I feel like a complete idiot when I Zumba, but it’s so much fun and a great workout. The staff is great and it’s a small studio so its’ an intimate experience. I’m very excited that the fall classes have started up again! :)

If you are looking for Alvin Ailey or Peridance, this place is not for you. I just wanted a small local place for dance classes that didn’t involve me getting on the subway. I’ve been extremely pleased with both the adult and the children’s classes/programs. My three year old has loads of fun in her afterschool program with ballet, tap and hip hop. I enjoy adult ballet and modern. I’ve only been in classes a few months but I’ve improved tremendously due to the supportive friendly environment. No more knee pain! Adult classes are truly a bargain taught by current and former professionals, the owner Lakey was with Alvin Ailey. You get a ton of personal attention and the routines are modified to your abilities.
