Not sure I understand why this place is so highly rated. There’s only 3 or 4 food items on the menu, and $ 4 for a breakfast taco that only has eggs, salsa, few strands of mozz, and cilantro is way overpriced. We added chorizo for an extra 50cents, but that failed, because we didn’t taste it at all. Even the asian-fusion tacos from the best food truck in America are half the price of these tacos. Thanks to Paypal for the $ 10 offer, but we would not be returning.

Trekked all the way to Brooklyn for brunch at St. Mazie and discovered Whirlybird around the corner offering $ 5 dollar on paypal app. Free grub while carrying a food baby, why not? I went with their famous breakfast taco with chorizo($ 4.50) and a large iced coffee($ 4). In and out of there within 5 mins. After getting home and comparing my pic with previous posts though, I’m pretty sure they forgot my chorizo. Nevertheless, the breakfast taco was amazing! At first I thought it was a little weird they threw on jalapeños chip crumbs on top but the they actually added a nice crunch and spicy kick to it! The scrambled egg with cheese even after it got cold was damn good(not rubbery or runny/undercooked like most places). The spicy tomato salsa/sauce complement the egg so well. I really have to say it was the perfect breakfast taco and I can definitely eat this everyday! Too bad it’s in the middle of nowhere and I highly doubt I will be in the neighborhood again. Maybe I should explore Brooklyn a bit more and I can come try their lunch tacos!

Great little taco joint. They have good coffee and great breakfast tacos. There’s also usually a lunch taco option. I like the blt taco or buffalo chicken when they have it. Cozy with great music playing all the time. Perfect for a lazy Sunday or Saturday.

It’s a limited menu, but everything that’s on it they do right. Everything is delicious, from the breakfast taco with chorizo to the buffalo chicken taco. It’s small — and seating is limited and arranged in a slightly inefficient way, but the real problem is people staying long after they’ve finished eating, and taking up this limited space so they could hammer away on their MacBook and add the latest chapter to the next great Brooklyn novel.

Wonderful Lattes. Want to go back and try the breakfast burritos. Girl who was working was sweet. Place is a neat Tiny little spot, but there is a few places to sit.

That was an effing good $ 4.50 brunch I just had. Spicy chorizo, egg, stewed tomatoes, and cilantro on a perfectly toasted soft corn taco. Brilliant. And I don’t even like corn tacos. Cheap and hits the spot. Cash only(but you probably could have assumed that anyways)

People seem to be loving this place. But I just wasn’t buying it. That said, I like to enjoy a slow-paced brunch over the paper, so certainly don’t subscribe to these new-york-minute breakfasts they seem to have here. Where is one rushing to on a saturday? The breakfast tacos are yum, but a bit greasy and one-dimensional. –Especially– given the awesome standard and availability of mexican food in NYC. I enjoyed my breakfast, but I’m not rushing back.

I was really excited to find a breakfast taco because I just moved from Texas. Whirly uses corn tortillas, which in Texas are always doubled. So my Whirly taco instantly fell apart. All the ingredients fell right thru. I’m all for messy food, but I don’t want the taco to fall apart at first bite. They did have jalapeño chips on the taco and the salsa was good. But the Americano tasted like tap water. I’d try this place again just to give it another shot because I did want to like them.

Oh man! Their breakfast tacos with chorizo are amazing; best I have ever had!!! It was about $ 10 for 2 tacos but worth it. Very small place don’t bring a large group of people. More so just stop in eat quick and leave. Highly recommended!

Apparently I made a wish upon a star. Breaky tacos and espresso drinks? I saw Jesus and he was wearing a tortilla.

I definitely didn’t think it would happen, but I found tacos that rival those in SF. Breakfast tacos, no less. The boy ate a standard #1 composed of scrambled egg, Oaxaca cheese, crumbled jalepeno chips, and salsa, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the plantain mash with curried chickpeas and mango. I cried a little, it was so good. As I’ve found on this trip to NYC, this is a standard-sized spot(read: tiny) but well worth cramming yourself in there for the sake of deliciousness. Arrive before Hipster O’Clock or be prepared for weather. ;)

Whirlybird’s menu is essentially just one, perfectly executed item. The breakfast taco is a wonderful creation –savory yet not heavy, spicy and sweet. Its made to order and takes around five minutes to arrive. While it’s being prepared –admire the tiny space, with its three benches, stacks of neighborhood journals and recent papers and glass water jar. Speak to the friendly waitstaff. Marvel at how a Texas-quality breakfast taco has come to Brooklyn. When the taco arrives, splash some of the homemade salsa on top, and devour it in six or seven amazing bites. Consider adding the chorizo next time. Be aware that there are sometimes lunch tacos and they are supposed to be delicious. Wash the food down with a Mexican Coke. Plan your next visit. Make it soon.

Chez Jose does a weekly(or less frequently) pop up dinner in the Whirlybird space featuring a high end multi course meal that places the emphasis on vegetables. I have the luck of snagging a reservation recently and I must say, it’s probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Jose Ramirez-Ruiz and Pamela Yung(ex Isa, Per Se, Robertas) put on artfully prepared feast featuring local foragers and farmers where meat protein takes on only a supporting role. The presentation is gorgeous, the flavors mind blowing.(Pumpkin soup with beer foam and tiny pretzel pieces? Turnip tart? You have no idea what you are missing.) The space is small and the amount of guests they serve is at max ten people but they often opt to keep it smaller. On the evening that I was there it was a total of five people. This leaves a cozy ambiance to enjoy your BYOB wine and chat with friends or make news ones. I loved it. And I could really see making this a monthly staple in dining.

Stopped in here today to try the coffee. Cute little space on a side street of the south side. Quiet block, and cute little space. Grabbed a cold brew and took at seat at one of the bar stools. I did enjoy the coffee, it was pretty tasty. BUt I can’t say I had any of the tacos. In fact the smell in the place seemed a bit overwhelming. Sure it was a hot day, I guess that contributed to it. There were also a lot of flies buzzing around. ugh.

I am always a fan of tacos. So, one morning I did a Unilocal search for some breakfast tacos finding out that Whirlybird had some of the best in Williamsburg. The previous reviews were spot on. $ 3 for the #1 Breakfast Veggie Taco. It’s a little expensive for just one tiny taco, but it really packs a punch and is quite filling. The egg is definitely mixed with some Oaxica cheese, then topped with hot peppers, plenty of cilantro, and these frito-like chips. It might sound weird, but those little chips make this breakfast taco was it really is. I ordered two #1’s hoping that my girlfriend would split with me, but since she didn’t, I enjoyed two to myself. It was more than enough. I would suggest grabbing one for yourself if you don’t like a big breakfast, because it will pack the perfect punch for you’re morning.
