This store is not closed, it is just has new owners. They still have allot of the same stock and really reasonable prices. I went in this week, and grabbed some really good wines at awesome price. Still the best liquor store in the neighborhood

Well lit. Nice staff. Clearly priced items. The didn’t have what I was looking for but the woman was helpful in finding a substitute. Quick and painless transaction. Enjoy!

I want to give five stars in tribute to the warm fuzzy feeling I have when I think of STD Wines & Liquors. But that would be an ironic fifth star, and we’re better than that, aren’t we, STD? We’re for real. This is the first liquor store I’ve tried out in my new ‘hood and my first experience was in planning my housewarming brunch. I’d researched a bunch of vodkas(not usually my drink) as I had planned to make a pitcher of The Perfect Bloody Mary of All Time. They had the second best rated one and it was way cheaper(by almost half) than the crap one with the fancy ads. The tipsy old guy who runs the register was very friendly and helped me pick out some prosecco to make a pitcher of Bellini’s for the Bloody haters. He was — thank god — assisted by the security guard, who I assume is equally there to protect against theft and against this old guy toppling something over onto himself or a customer. They helped me load my granny cart up with spirits and invited themselves to my housewarming. Yes, I circled the block once so they wouldn’t see where I lived. But that just adds to charm.

everything about my previous review holds true, however, their selection of alcoholic gift boxes is incredible. I can’t believe I forgot to mention this. want to get Grey Goose with a fancy metal shaker? Disaronno or Chivas with glasses? yeah, they got ‘em, and plenty more. and, it’ll run you about the same as just buying the bottle itself anywhere else. also, $ 20 handles of Captain Morgan Tattoo? sign me the fuck up.

I finally went here, after living in Kensington for the past 23 yrs I have finally went in here! It was ok, your basic liquor store with all the goodies. I went in for Nando Champagne– delicious and it was a dollar more than usual. It’s ok as long as it wasnt over over priced I dont mind. I def plan to visit my local liqua store more often.

STD’s is really your generic, run of the mill, not too fancy, not too shabby liquor store but with a name like that, who wouldn’t drive miles just to shop there. Sometimes stores just make you smile when you walk in. Maybe it is a friendly sales-person, maybe it is the prospect of what you are going to walk out with, but in this case, it is all in the name. Ok, maybe also the prospect of what you might walk out with but that goes hand in hand with the former. The place is actually owned by an ex-fireman with the initials STD(hey, better than a gynecologist with the same initials, no?) so hence the name. I can only infer from the gentleman’s demeanor when I pointed out the hilarity of the name that he must hear it quite a bit. But hey, you can’t name a liquor store STD and not expect some chuckles. This one definitely goes down in my list of funny-ass named places. Much like the Pink Elephant miniature golf course on the Outer Banks in NC. A giant pink elephant hovers over the parking lot like a maniacal reminder of the south’s favorite pass-time. Yes, kids, that would be drunk driving. So go head over to Kensington and pick yourself up some STD’s. Liquors that is. And while you are there, give unlucky a big hug and maybe she’ll share some of hers.

Don’t be turned off by the name — it’s a fine store. They have chilled wine in the front. The wine selection is pretty average but will do in a pinch.

The fact that they deliver makes up for the sketchy name. Conveniently right off the subway and open good hours. They don’t have an incredible selection but hey — its Kensington… I don’t expect much.

Best place to get your hootch around the area. Huge selection all shelved very nicely and usually has some deals on the hard stuff to. The name seemed seedy to me at first, but it actually turns out that it stands for the owners name: Sebastian Thomas Drago. Either or, nice wine selection with every bottle easy to locate. They even have a bargain bin in the middle of the store, with two or three huge baskets filled with wine $ 6 and other, making it just a step above two buck chuck. It’s the only place I know I can get Saki on the go or svedka on the sale without having to take a train ride, and usually the guy behind the counter knows what he’s talking about. This place stays open later then JOBI down the road, so if your fixin for a cocktail and it’s a typical night, chances are you have an hour more to get what you need here then you would at JOBI which always seems to be closed.
