Was surprised how clean and efficient our trip was. We expected it to be packed and «typical» bureaucratic stuff. We were out of there in 15 minutes! Very pleasantly surprised!

Very efficient. The staff was very friendly. Was in and out in 5 minutes including the elevator ride.

After having my SS card stolen several years ago, I have been dreading this visit. In fact, I once tried to show up to an office in Brooklyn (I’m assuming before this one opened) early in the morning and after being confronted by a line out the door, and a security guard who stated that there was a 45 min wait just to get to the elevator, much less to be serviced, I cut and ran.
Fast forward to this afternoon. The building and office was pleasant and empty. I had budgeted an hour for the visit after reading the other reviews here, just in case, but from the time I walked in from the street, to walking out the door again was less than 15 minutes including hallways, elevators, security, and waiting to be seen. All that extra time meant I could stop off at Starbucks before I returned to work!

They are quite quick! No one wants to stay here long so their «customers» come here out of necessity, probably dreading it as much as I did. Hmmmm… they must have well-​trained and efficient workers.
When you enter, they check your bag, find out what you are here for and check you in electronically giving you a ticket. When they call your ticket, you go to the window and meet with a worker. Yes, this is standard and expected. I was pleasantly surprised to hear the workers calling out the numbers like rappers tag teaming in a rap song «brrrrrr, brrrrrr, brrrrrr» I thought to myself, «That’s wassup! I won’t be here long.» (grinning on the inside)
The seating area has plenty of seats, it’s clean and nothing unpleasant is in there like funny smells or too cold/​too hot – the temperature is just right.

In and out in about 10 minutes. Amen

This review is for the SS office located at 195 Montague Street, 7^th FL, Bklyn, NY 11 201. Not sure why the address is off…
Very quick and orderly. We went in (did not have an appointment). We got a number, and waited an hour before we got called. This is an improvement considering other gov’t places make you wait more than 2 – 3 hours. I arrived at 11am, got called at 11:55am, and got out before 1pm.
The lady who helped us was nice and efficient. What we had to do was fairly complicated, so it took 45 minutes to complete. Over all, in and out in under 2 hours. I highly recommend this branch in Brooklyn! Just make sure to check the office hours. They close at noon on Wednesday.
PS: Not sure, but I think they also help you apply for food stamps at this office (at least that’s what I read on one of the signs posted).

40+ stellar reviews don’t lie. In and out of here in 30min on a Friday around 11AM. Everyone from the security at the front to the clerk who helped me was extremely friendly. I hope I never need to visit again (no offense, SSA, I just hope I don’t have to change my last name again) but they’ve now spoiled me for all other bureaucratic offices.

like other reviewers I have to say I was impressed at the speed of this place. I did not come in early like most suggested here but came in around 1:00 on a Thursday and was out the door by 1:30. Drastic difference compared to going to to the DMV or other government condoned like facilities.
Word to the wise, it’s probably best to print and fill out the social security request form on the government website and have everything ready prior to getting there. The only thing that seemed to make this even a slight bit of the wait is whenever anybody was called they would have to fill the paperwork out in front of the clerk and although it really isn’t lengthy it will certainly shave off the time to get in and get out.
From the moment I sat down with a clerk and handed my forms it was literally like two minutes and they were very pleasant.

Everything took just about 15 minutes. No lines, no rudeness, everything is clean and clear. People working there are very helpful, which is essential, since a lot of foreigners come to a social security office.

I arrived at this office yesterday at 8:38 and left at 9:09. The staff were very efficient and helpful. I came from Queens to this Brooklyn ss office because of the Unilocal reviews, and was not disappointed.

like many other reviewers i cannot believe what just happened today. i was skeptic even reading all the good reviews. but it really is true. i came in mid day about 3pm, followed the Unilocal tips and took the elevator straight to the 6^th floor, security checked my bag, punched in my SSN and grabbed a number, noticed about 30 windows but not all were working — assume somewhere around half that was. called up to a window and finished doing a name change in about 10 minutes total! very efficient and friendly. the clerk only asked for my marriage cert and the form. didnt even look at my ID and passport/​etc.

Before you come into this place, read the signs! There is only 1 elevator to get to the 6^th floor. Don’t be like me and go into 4 elevators and ask 2 different people who have no idea what’s going on. It’s the first elevator on the left side after you get to the lobby.
Once inside, you’ll get your bag checked and then grab a number. If possible, fill out whatever paperwork you need to before you come in. If you don’t get a chance to, no worries. They have the necessary papers available.
I waited for about 10 – 15 min and was called to a teller. The woman who helped me was pleasant and helpful. We finished up in about 5 min and I was out of there. Totally efficient!

I went for a name changed and the whole process was so quick that I forgot that I was in the building. The service was very friendly and the experience was really great!
Normally when you go to government buildings is always very long hours but here things are much faster.

I’m SHOCKED that I’m writing a glowing review for a NYC government office, but my experience was so pleasant that I felt the need to say something.
Other reviewers mentioned that you should arrive when the doors open at 7:00AM for fast service, but I couldn’t bring myself to get there that early. I arrived at 9:30AM and was immediately greeted with a smile by a security guard, directing me to the elevator to head up to the 6^th floor office. Once on the 6^th floor, I was greeted, again, by two smiling security guards asking to check my bag and provide me a wait number.
I waited in the clean, quiet room for less than 10 minutes before my number was called. The guy at my assigned window, again, greeted me with a smile and quickly processed my paperwork (which I had filled out prior to arrival).
I was out by 9:50.

I had a great experience! As a Puertorrican, they respect you and value your documents from the island (ex: doctor’s certificated letter).
Before this I went to the Jamaica, Queen, office where I was highly misinformed and discriminated.
The lady in this Brooklyn location was extremely considerate and capable to prove wrong the information I was told in Queens. Please, with the public services offices you can’t loose your hope… good luck ya’ll!

This Ssa is called Bkln card center on the 6^th floor, which was better than the on on Suffolk County. The place was big. There were many safeguards. I rushed into the check –in to get the ticket, the guards talked to me and smiled. I felt so great. That was why I worn a Nike t-​shirt. Hahaha. A sweet Chinese lady served me, she kept me waiting for 2 mins cause she talked to her colleague about what to do after work ;-/​after all, her service was quick and polite. This was such a delightful experience.

I’m with everyone else. Get there early, leave early.
I arrived at 7:11 and was seen about 2 minutes later. It was pretty easy. I just needed a replacement card and already had my form filled out. It was really fast and easy.
Security wasn’t too crazy, they were too busy eating to really «check» my bag. The room was clean (and empty!)
Oh, and you can also enter the SS office on Montague Street, it saves you the block walk.
Pluses– get there around 7 a.m. and you’ll be done around 7:10
Minuses — nothing else is open, so you’ll have to wait at Mc Donalds or Starbucks if you want to run several errands.

Was pleasantly surprised this week when I went to apply for a replacement social security card. I arrived on Monday morning at 7:20 AM and was worried it might be busier than usual since the Friday earlier had a delayed opening. Was one of maybe 5 people in there.
Walked in, came up to floor 6 and had my bag checked by security. I then entered my SS number and received a number to wait. Less than 30 seconds later my number was called. I had filled out my form in advance, but you have the option to do that at the office as well. I was asked for I.D. (I used my passport, and they did not need to see my license). Was asked for my birth certificate but did not have that. Was not a problem. Was told I would receive my card in about 2 weeks. Received it by mail Friday of the same week.
So much better than I expected, and the people in there couldn’t be nicer. I think I was in the building for all of ten minutes. I did try to go a few weeks ago at 2:30 PM and the line for the elevator alone deterred me. Definitely worth waking up early for! And reading Unilocal posts helped me understand what to expect and what to bring.

It’s really a great setup. 30 clerks sit behind bullet-​proof glass in individual 2-​seater booths that line the perimeter of the large waiting room. There’s ample seating and spacious aisles, and it’s bright and clean. Mid-​afternoon on a weekday I sat down with 40 numbers ahead of me. 40 minutes later my number was called (wow!), the clerk processed everything quickly and smoothly, and 10 minutes later I was out of there. Really amazing for a government office. I would only improve one thing: the call system. The TV displays the latest number being served but not the numbers and booth assignments being announced on the speaker. Some of the microphones fade out, and sometimes clerks talk over each other. But if you miss hearing your number they will call a second time.

What can I say about the SS office? How about that it is kept very clean? Or that they have comfortable chairs… Perhaps a friendly staff? Short wait time? Yes, I could say all this. And I just did.
I got here at 1250pm, which was a mistake in retrospect since apparently several employees were on lunch. I was greeted at the door by an armed security guard who was probably the friendliest security guard I’ve ever met. He had a very uplifting voice full of spirit. That was nice to see.
They had about three windows operating, with probably close to 35 ticket numbers in line (not counting people’s families). No problem, I read my Kindle and just hung out for a bit. At about 1:30pm they opened another three windows and numbers flew out faster than Vin Diesel at a strip club. I got out of there by about 2pm and was off to enjoy being caught in a thunderstorm.
The entire staff was actually very friendly and they have a clean bathroom. I was almost speechless at the cleanliness and smoothness of the whole experience (not IN the bathroom, guys, the entire experience at SS Office!!!) Although everything… «else»… was smooth too, for those curious.
