I’ve tried all of the bagel outlets in the neighborhood and this one has the best bagels at the best price – very high value. There are a number of spreads that are adequate(I typically just have butter but my wife enjoys the Dill Cucumber and the Strawberry). The coffee is fine, nothing to write home about although I think everyone would prefer you purchase here instead of Starbucks. In addition, the service is prompt(all business in the morning, not necessarily friendly) and the layout of the store is effective. If you are looking to sit and eat then unfortunately there is limited space as the take out process is prioritized. The hours are ideal as well – it’s great to have the option of an early morning fresh bagel no matter what time you need to be at the airport. Executive Summary: If you are in BK Hts, Boerum/Cobble Hill or Carroll Gardens this should be your weekly bagel spot.

I really wanted to love this place. I really did want to find my new bagel spot! But alas, the search continues. The gluten free bagels are not made in house but come frozen from a bag. The bagel texture was very hard and chewy and the size was significantly smaller than the regular bagels. I got The Leo which came with lox, eggs, onions and veggie cream cheese. The insides were BOMB but the bagel itself was a let down considering the $ 10 I paid. It’s a decent option if you want a bagel and are GF, but not the best I’ve ever had.

There’s nothing that makes me feel worse then giving a highly rated restaurant a subpar review. OK wait a second, that’s not true at all. When you’re a Jew and have a mother who thrives on guilt trips, you realize that everything you do makes you feel bad. So let’s just add this one to the list. I started my day looking around for gluten-free bagel options. Typically you can either buy a package of good gluten-free bagels or you can go to a restaurant and eat their food on whatever crappy package of bagels they buy. We can’t win! So this morning, some terrible Unilocal reviewer tricked me by saying that this place makes their own fresh gluten-free bagels. I found out very soon that that was not the case. I arrived on a Saturday around 11AM to a line of about 15 people. The place was packed. I ordered a gluten-free sesame bagel with egg, bacon and cheese. There were a few other bagel options like everything, poppy and plain. The line moved quickly and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I was very impressed with the quickness at which they had people order and pay. Also, all of the people who work here seem to be in a good mood despite the long line on a weekend morning. I left feeling excited and hopeful. If somebody thought that these bagels were homemade, they had to be good. Right? Not so much. The flavor of the bagel was better than expected, but the consistency was the opposite. Typically gluten-free bagels are similar to the texture of cardboard and when toasted, though slightly better, are severely dry and break very easily. In the case of this bagel, it was so chewy and solid that I could hardly bite through it. Do you know that wonderful feeling you get when you open up a new appliance that’s shiny and new but then suddenly and very accidentally stick your finger nail into the piece of Styrofoam that’s holding your new present? That noise and that feeling of foamy plastic is the closest thing I can think of to the texture of this bagel. Maybe toasted it would have been better,(which I asked for) but that didn’t happen. A sad beginning to what could have been a good breakfast sandwich. Even sadder? The eggs were on the dry side and the bacon… Maybe we shouldn’t even call it bacon. It was turkey bacon. I don’t know about you, but turkey bacon is not bacon. Turkey bacon doesn’t even come close to bacon. I first I thought this was an error, which would have made me feel better. But after reading some reviews from other people, I realized that they only serve turkey bacon here. But they don’t warn us? Don’t they realize that every time a person gets turkey bacon instead of bacon an angel loses it’s wings? Sorry guys, next time I’m going to keep on walking.

24⁄7 Fresh Bagels… always an A+ for a true New Yorker like myself… Still arrived to early for a rainbow bagel. But the classic Cinnamon raisin was good for me. If you’re a fan of the specialty cream cheese and assorted toppings other put on bagels, you can’t go wrong here, they have many great looking options. But if you’re a butter bagel man like myself you will be just fine. Very friendly staff might I add.

For my 101st review it’s a joy to review this place. I had a wonderful gluten-free bagel with dairy-free tofu spread(they make it in-house) and house-cut lox. Wow. I am coming back here, you can count on it. Also — the coffee was a bonus — smooth and above the regular coffee that you get at other bagel shops. This place puts a smile on your face and fills your belly right. A joy!

I’ve been eyeing this particularly delicious looking bagel on Instagram for three days and this morning, while contemplating my order at Smith St Bagel I thought — «hey, what if…» And so I showed Jamal and Gio the appetizing object of my focus … Thank you guys! You rock! And so — this morning’s order was a recreation that consisted of a scooped out plain bagel with two sunny side eggs, bacon, Munster cheese, and avocado slices. Yuuuummmmiiinnneeeessss!!! I’d like to try it with pastrami next time and don’t forget a little salt and pepper!

I go in here at least once a week. Bagels are mmhmmcredible bagels and they have a hilarious amount of cream cheeses. Who needs like fifty cream cheeses? I thought cream cheese was it’s own thing. Anyway they also have LOX, which is my favorite rap group, but their kind is salmon. I said«GOHEAD» and tried it out and it was really delicious. The sandwiches are amazing. The owner(or one of the head bagelers) actually said«You’re gonna love it, I made you a hell of a sandwich». I had a laugh because a sammidge is generally a sammidge, but he was on the money. Just how I ordered and stacked with cheese and meat. They have three different types of jalepeno chips. They’re all good. Great local joint with awesome food and help.

My treat on Saturday Mornings before work! I order the Mocha Lox Special w/o onions. Mocha Special has lox, cream cheese, tomato, capers, and onions. It never fails me! Especially today, I waited for 5min for a fresh everything bagel. Worth it! I also appreciate the price of Mocha Special -$ 8.70 compared to the $ 10+ I would have to pay in Manhattan.

Terrible. The bagels are average at best and the spreads all appear to be 10 days old. The worst part is the service. I know it’s a deli in Brooklyn and expectations shouldn’t be too high, but this place is a joke. My order has been messed up every single time(the order Is pretty simple: bagel toasted with egg tomato and avocado). Don’t waste your time or money here.

Best philly cheese steak in brooklyn. This is my first review — I told the guy who grilled the sandwich it looked amazing. He took his time making sure all the ingredients were just right. As I walked out, he told me to Unilocal it if it really was that good. I laughed but when I got home and ate the sandwich… I realized I had to do it. Fresh pieces of grilled steak, similar to roast beef texture. Not those little frozen slabs you usually get. Fresh peppers and onions hot off the grill with mozzarella. A little a ajus sauce… And on a TOASTEDGARLICBREADHERO. Yougottabekiddinme! Steak and sandwich tasted better than Pats/Genos. Maybe not as good as Steve’s but it’s up there!

So far, been here twice. Tried the lox/scallion cream cheese on a plain bagel and pastrami/avocado/egg on plain bagel. — The lox bagel was on-point. They didn’t skimp on the lox at all and didn’t put an overwhelming amount of cream cheese(I hate when bagels are overloaded with cc that you can’t taste the rest of the bagel). — The pastrami sandwich/bagel was a bit disappointing. Rather flavorless and prompted me to open up the sandwich and douse it with hot sauce. — The bagel itself, I would rate the 4⁄5 with good texture, decent crunchy shell to chewy inside ratio.

I never write reviews, but today was special. I’m a Carroll Gardens native and have eaten at almost every bagel shop in the area. Smith St Bagels is by far the best everything shop in the neighborhood. While we are avid bagel regulars here, you won’t be disappointed with any of their other offerings. My treat of choice is their everything bagel with guacamole cream cheese. My hubby loves their whole wheat bagels with garlic and herb cream cheese. And my kids devour their cinnamon raisin bagels and strawberry cream cheese. By the way, they have a plentiful selection of cream cheese, all made onsite. Their salads are delicious. And their paninis are mouth watering. What made today special was that I got to try their FRENCHTOASTBAGEL… Yeah, I know… You’re welcome. :) Sweet, cinnamon, and powder… in a bagel. All you need is a syrup dip. Or order it up with any of their sweet home made cream cheeses. It was a guilty pleasure and I can’t wait for our next bagel run. The place is clean, Food is delicous, the Guys are the best. Always welcoming, conversational, and they make an effort to remember you. And when a place is always busy, you know its good. Highly recommend.

This place has the best bagels. They recently redid the inside and it looks great. Their French toast bagel with apple spice cream cheese is a decadent treat, but they always have my go to favorite… the elusive egg everything bagel and they do it right.

Smith St Bagel has a pretty solid bagel with its mocha bagel that comes with lox, cream cheese, tomato, and the likes. It’s a pretty standard bagel, but well done! Didn’t even need to get it toasted because it was so fresh. I like this Brooklyn location for its well-priced bagel compared to the more touristy places in Manhattan. No bathroom available inside!

Of the many choices for bagels, this spot provides a good & convenient option. On a recent boat bar expedition, I found I was in need of a snacky before my drinkie. :) And sadly Caruso’s Pizza was closed, so I thought to myself, what’s the next best thing? Answer is a late night bagel of course. Being the non-dairy fan I am, I asked them for avocado & tomato on my everything. At first they seemed to be out of avocado & it almost sounded like they were gonna head over to a deli just to get one. Which is very nice. But then they found some avocado in the fridge. Happy time! The bagel was very fresh & toasted just right. So the bluepoint at boat bar went down oooooh soooo smoothly!

It’s probably best that this place isn’t located too close to me. Otherwise I’d be here all the time. And then Mocha(Smith St? When did you change names?) would suddenly need to bump up their production of sesame seed bagels and bacon cheddar scallion cream cheese. And my waistline, well, let’s not get into the gory details, but safe to say it wouldn’t be pretty. I’m able to temper myself by going only when I have a monstrous craving for a toasted sesame seed bagel with bacon cheddar scallion cream cheese. And as those cravings have become more frequent, I tremble in fear for the day when they won’t have those. Luckily, that day has not yet come. This place is head and shoulders above the sad excuse for a bagel café down by the Carroll Street station.

No trip to NYC is complete without a fresh bagel. Smith St. Bagels happened to be located right across the street from my buddy’s place so I hopped on down for breakfast. They have a special with pastrami, eggs, and cheese on your choice of bagel. I added cream cheese to it and the result was heavenly. The eggs were cooked as an omelette and fantastic. Pastrami good, not great but good. And the bagels were fresh and exactly what I would expect from a NYC bagel joint. They have a ton of choices and reasonable prices so I’d be coming back all the time if I lived in the area.

I dropped in on a Sunday afternoon since I wasn’t going to make it to Leo’s or Absolute at 4:15PM in the afternoon from Brooklyn and it was meant to be. I ordered the mocha special lox sandwich: regular cream cheese on an everything bagel and then the lox, red onions, capers, and tomato. Two slices of that delicious smoked salty salmon with just enough smear and onion. I’m salivating as I type this out. The bagel wasn’t your regular bagel with just tons of poppy and sesame, it had onion too. Soft, chewy, and fragrant, it was the kind of everything bagel that really had everything, and I ate this the next morning too. For $ 8(they advertise as $ 7.99 but should really say $ 8) it was actually the perfect lox and cream cheese bagel I have had so far. Murphy’s was too hard and chewy while Ess-a-bagel, still amazing, has way too much but still welcomed amount of cream cheese. I would take as much cream cheese you will give me. Anyways, the folks who work there are super nice and love to crack jokes. Great hidden gem, but just so far from Jersey City.

No one makes a bagel like they do in Brooklyn — it just hasn’t happened! and if it has — please point me in the right direction. My first time at Smith St. Bagel — must say, definitely a solid 4. Ordered a pastrami, egg, and cheese sandwich on the way to work this morning — sooo tasty! Preettttyyy good bagel — freshly baked, needed no toasting, and tasted just as fresh more than a few hours later(leftovers). The bagel was delicious, and the egg was fluffy and moist(so often it gets ruined when they make it toooo well done). Here’s where points start coming off — I asked for pastrami to be crispy and while it wasn’t completely off, I wish it’d be a «bit» more done with a «bit» more crust on the bagel itself(as well as some salt) wouldn’t hurt either :) Absolutely will come back and can’t wait to try the multiple varieties of spreads and variations of lox on a bagel!

We stayed in Carroll Gardens for a couple of weeks and ended up doing an informal bagel audit of the neighborhood over that time, declaring Smith St Bagels as the clear winners. First time in there the guys behind the counter were loud and brash, yelling at customers and each other, but playfully, all a bit of a show. The main guy latched onto our Aussie accents and teased us a bit as he served up our bagels… but threw in some free pastries as if to make sure we knew not to take offense. Next few times in there the mood wasn’t quite as jovial, the service more of a rushed effort without any entertainment thrown in, but the bagels were just as good which is all that matters really!

Someone brought these bagels to a work event, and I was hooked. The bagels are perfect. They are soft with just the right amount of chew. They don’t even need to be toasted. I was skeptical about the bacon, cheddar, scallion cream cheese, but I’m glad I tried it. It was incredible. I was hooked. I tracked down the place to visit that same week. This time, I got the garlic and salt bagel with the bacon, cheddar, scallion cream cheese. That bagel was just as good as the first I had. I’d definitely give a higher rating except for the fact that the last time I went, the guy charged me $ 3.50(as opposed to $ 2 the week before), then when I questioned it, changed it to $ 3. It seemed very arbitrary and a little shady. Also, $ 3.50 for a bagel with cream cheese is absurd, especially when the same place charges only a quarter more for a full breakfast sandwich on a bagel. I am not sure if I’ll be back, but I will remember fondly the best cream cheese bagel I’ve had in the city. And who knows, maybe they’ll serve them at another of my work meetings. Fingers crossed! :)

It’s too bad we’re not usually in this area for breakfast otherwise we’d probably eat here everyday. The service is fast, the price is reasonable, the food is plentiful and delicious, and the staff is awesome. There isn’t much to complain about here. We opted to order the philly and nyc specials. Both were piping hot, filling, and yummy. Full of meat, full of flavor, fully satisfying.
