ALLOFTHESEREVIEWSAREFALSE! I called to make an appointment with Marsha one of the most amazing stylists I have had the chance to meet. She has been doing this for 15 years and she is incredible at sew ins. I have added pics so you can get a look! The space is clean and large and plays amazing music if you like hip hop(we were jammin out to beyonce) and everyone who works in there is so friendly including the barbers and staff. Marsha took me after work at 7 and was incredible in her timing not to mention she is a SWEETHEART and took everything I said into consideration when doing my hair. I wanted to be extra glamorous and I left feeling Kim Kardashian fabulous! CHECKOUTTHEPICS! If you really want to find a great place for a sew in go here and make sure to ask for MARSHA!!!

For all of my fans of fresh cuts I would stay away from here. I’ve given this place a few tries for shape ups(I get a cut one week, shape up the next) So I’m usually at the barbers 4 times a month in the winter time 2 – 3 times a month) I have no clue how you can mess up a shape up when you are retracing some one else’s lines but they have managed to do that twice(different barbers)

Walked in for an appointment I had scheduled and there were 3 people ahead of me, which Joy only bothered to mention after I asked how long it would be– she had a person mid-service sitting in her chair. Lack of service and bad attitude plus they charge $$$… and have no respect for time. BTW… This was midweek, not even on busy Fri or Sat. My search continues!

Update: After multiple washes, I sadly have to accept the fact that LaJoy burnt my hair. This is a bummer for two reasons: Firstly, because I have to walk around still smelling the faint scent of burnt hair everywhere I go and secondly, because my search for a good hair dresser now continues. I guess I am going to have to fork out for a Deva Cut next time. NOT going back. Original Review: I went and got my(natural) hair washed, conditioned, flatironed, and trimmed by LaJoy on Friday. I have never had my hair heat straightened in my entire adult life and I think that LaJoy did a fantastic and gentle job. I like that she was the only person doing my hair the whole time. Also, even though it was a very busy Friday, I felt like the service was very speedy and professional. I am probably not going to get my hair flat-ironed again for a super long time(just not crazy about straight hair), but I think I need to get my hair trimmed more often and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna stick with LaJoy for that. I don’t think she is super knowledgeable about natural hair and natural hair styling, but meh, no biggie. I’m just so happy to find someone reliable and professional!

This place gets 5 stars from me because Kerra saved my world! I’ve been to many many many salons in NYC. I’ve spent $ 300 to $ 20 to get my hair done. All my life I’ve had long hair and as an African American woman, maintaining my mane has always ranged in price pending on care. However, sometimes the care doesn’t always justify the price. I went to the salon because I had a hair catastrophe and when I called Skilz Kerra heard my cry and told me to come in as early as I wanted. Though it was the usual 4hr process you can’t rush perfection. She was like a doctor who took care of me from start to finish. Our consultation and my hair prep was even done in a separate room as I was embarrassed beyond the hat. My hair doc. knew what she was doing and assured it will be OK. After a relaxer, rinse, and cut… I walked out with a nice Rhianna meets Halle cut and all was well. Definitely something new for me(as mentioned I was a long hair don’t care girl) but my friends and family love the new me. So I say with confidence… Skilz has Mad Skilz. The price was priceless but with the work and the care I still spent less than a number of Harlem… Mid-town…Long Island… Boogie Down salons :) Definitely as good as it gets with Kerra in BK.

Always passed this place, had family and friends who have gone so I took a chance. Pockets weren’t right for my loctician of preference and the backup was swamped, after alllll it was labor day weekend. Moving along, I walked in and tried to get the attention of a stylist to inquire about their services. I received a snub from one, total disregard from others, but wait there was one ray of light. She welcomed me and answered my questions regarding pricing and service. Great! I asked if there was anyone available then to put my doo in order, she advised she would hook me up, gave me her card and took me to the back to the sinks, introduced me to her assistant, and advised her to get me started by washing and conditioning my locs. Alllll goooood. She did a marvelous job washing my locs, even ensuring she got all the itchy spots, I’m loving this so far. Wash is finished, so there’s someone in the chair getting a cut, so I’m put at a dryer to await my turn. Now I walked in the door abt 5:45P.I’m sat at the dryer(not under the dryer, but at it with it on low to dry the ends if my hair while I wait(I guess), with my head tilted back so the locs stay in the dryer hood) abt 6:15ish. I’m sitting playing my game, Words by Post and Words with Friends(excellent, addictive games by the way) waiting patiently… until, my battery dies. NOW I notice the time, it’s 7PM. WTH! There’s someone different in the chair, now I don’t profess to have noticed everyone that was there before I walked in however I was pretty sure that person was not. Anyway, they’re already in process so I’ll let them finish up. Now that I’m not distracted I’m able to pay attention to who comes and goes. It’s now 7:30PM, She’s finished the person in the seat and I get my bags in order to occupy the now vacant seat, but wait!!! She calls over another woman who had just come in not too long before, but after me. REALLY?! SERIOUSLY! I’m being punked! At this point I’m done, anything said would NOT have been nice, so I kindly go over to the young lady who did a great job with my wash, give her a deserved tip and walked myself right past that person and out the door. A loc soc and/or scarf will do me well until I get it done. WTHeck, did she think because she wet my hair I would have to sit and wait?! Not the QUEEN ma! I have a dryer at home and will gladly keep my funds in my pockets a day longer. Always another option! The morale of the story, their customer service has NOSKILLZ. Will most def NOT be stepping foot in that place again. Btw… the one star was for the assistant and you know that card was trashed right!!!

Never again will I walk into this«we are better then thou» salon. Talk about attitudes that need adjusting. I had natural hair guys, and wanted a nice weave for my birthday outing. So I looked and though that this nice looking salon may be what I was looking for WRONG! I went twice. She left part of the front of my hair out, and pressed it. she didn’t dye it properly so it didn’t match the weave. I walk out disappointed but said I would come back to fix it. She was pricey for a Brooklyn stylist. 3 days later i went back. Sher didn’t know how to match the color of my hair so she had another stylist try. She pressed my hair again, which I though wasn’t safe and charge me $ 150. Are you kidding. Then she told me to give the girl who help to dye the hair something. Wait isn’t that your job, i didn’t come here to pay two people to do my hair. That’s not even the bad part guys. My hair which had no perm what so ever, never kinked up again in the section that she pressed. NEVER!!! washed it like 30x like she told me, it never kinked again. I went to 3 other salons and they told me that section was dead, burnt, that I had to let it grow out then cut it. It broke my heart. She messed my hair up, and I had to chop it off. Then she was pricey for no reason. NEVERAGAIN…
