I recently joined the Oulipian Writhing Group at Proteus Gowanus and fell head over heels at the spacious, open building with it’s beautiful brick façade, high ceilings and air of fecundity. Tom and Wendy lead a superb constrained writing seminar here with a nominal fee for wine.
I look forward to writhing here every week and checking out the other events the gallery has going on. It’s a gorgeous space and it’s being well utilized to promote the arts.
Proteus Gowanus is edgy, hip and avante garde right in Gowanus.

I was already familiar with the Proteus Gowanus event space through being a member of their co-​working program «Study Hall». So when my husband and I were looking for a venue in Brooklyn for our special milestone birthday/​anniversary weekend, we knew Proteus would be the perfect spot! We were able to use all spaces of the gallery including the former Observatory (now Brooklyn Box), the Reanimation Library and the Hall of Gowanus. So many guests commented that the space was wonderful and unique! We had a lovely time, thanks Proteus!

Very cool spot located along the gowanus canal. Walk in an unearth a mighty collection of artifacts from the days of Brooklyn lore! Old equipment, samples if water, newspaper clipping dating back to 16th century. This is a MUST see for any New Yorker interested in our fare city’s history!
