Yes a true/rare gem of a place. You feel like you’re going back in time, but that’s part of the charm:)
One of the last few really Polish places in Greenpoint!
The food is excellent, as surely there’s Polish Ladies/Grandmas in the kitchen doing their magic - real home cooking!

This place is one of the last remaining authentic polish places in Greenpoint. The previous reviewer got something mixed up as the actual restaurant is next to the church and only open from noon to 7pm. Plus is serves no alcohol. so if you feel like honestly food made by your polish aunt and watch some polish TV that’s you place. The soups are highly recommended. Please be polite as the nice lady serving you speaks little English. A real gem!

Attended The Polish American Congress Banquet here the other night($ 85 per person). The event space is in a converted retired church(think Limelight in Manhattan). So, I go to get some drinks from the bar during happy hour, The bar tender doesn’t speak English and I don’t speak Polish, but booze is universal, so this should work. I point to the beer I want and order a mixed drink with this pointing method. The beer is warm and the mixed drink has no ice in it. I ask for ice. I get one cube. I ask for more ice, I get one more cube. Is there an ice shortage I haven’t heard about? The appetizers are served buffet style in a small room off the right side of the stage(formerly the alter). Only one small door leading in and out of this room. Everybody got up in mass(pun intended) and rushed to this little room when the appetizers were announced as ready. Needless to say it was a disaster. A long slow line developed and there was hardly anything but crumbs left if you were at the back of the line. Dinner was also served buffet style in this little room. At least common sense prevailed this time, as we were called up by table number to get our food. And at least the food was on point. The perogies, holubchi, bigos, meatballs, roast chicken and sliced pork loin were all very good. I didn’t stay for dessert as I had to work the next morning.
