This is it for me. I just found a piece of blue fabric fried into my festival. After coming here for years, I’m done. Y’all can enjoy this unsanitary place.

Highly upset! A friend of mine told me about peppa so I went and my god the chicken was great, festival, rice everything, so I told people about it and it became my routine when I go out to nyc. My sister decides to come get chicken because I been talking good about it so we went on a Friday and it was pppaacckkkeeddd… I get my food and travel back to NJ. My sister called me and told me the food was nasty and unseasoned. I said nooo. when I finally arrived to nj and went to eat my food. she was riggght! My festival was not sweet, chicken was still raw, rice was plain as hell and had no peas, and the jerk sauce tasted like straight from the jar. no spices or nothing! I was so upset I wasted my money and had to throw the entire dinner out and find something else to eat! I probably won’t be back there because it seems like I have to taste my food before I leave not to mention the people in there had a nasty attitude! Looks like I have to find another jerk chicken spot to get food from because I dnt know what day is a good day to get my food from peppa so I won’t take the chance!

It’s hard to say with words how much I love this place. I want to eat here every day. Get liberal with the sauces and order a festival.

I got the jerk chicken dinner. The chicken itself was pretty moist. The problem is this chicken had no flavor. I put the jerk sauce on it and it didn’t do anything. I thought it was going to be at least a little spicy. I also really didn’t like the gravy they put on the rice. It tasted like all soy sauce– gross. When I got my chicken plate, they only gave me rice and peas. No plaintains, cabbage, salad, nothing. I also got really sick after eating this stuff

Jerk chicken is slammin’. Only thing I was disappointed by was the fried dumplings. Probably was just an old batch.

So yeah… I love Peppa’s Jerk Chicken!!! I heard tons of good things about the food, but had never taken the time to go. Well on a Friday night I was in the neighborhood & decided to give it a try. Now… DISCLAIMER — this place is not the easiest on the eye, if you’re looking for a place full of décor & bright lights, then this is not the place for you. However, if you are just into some good jerk chicken, find a spot in line(because there is ALWAYS a line there) and order. In the last 2 weeks, I’ve been 4 times and every time, I get the $ 9 order. Chicken is juicy, flavorful and has just the right amount of spice. I’m definitely a fan & recommend it to anyone. The escovitch fish has really high recommendations as well, so that will be next on my list to try.

It’s a dive all right, with just a faded sign, a counter and the smell of smoke wafting throughout the place. Trays at the counter were covered with tin foil, containing festival, rice and beans and other fixins. It was like stepping into a hole in the wall in a third world country. My escovitched fish was fried perfectly and fresh, the bones crunching as I took off every delicious piece of flesh. I forgot to ask for extra onions, but thoroughly enjoyed what I gobbled up. I got the jerk chicken for the sisters, who opined that the blackened, charred meat was a bit on the dry side and didn’t taste much of the jerk rub. A man on line waiting gasped when I had doused the chicken with a hot sauce after a liberal sprinkling of barbeque sauce. I witnessed the man before me on line pouring on the sauce and without thinking, did the same. Hey, when in Rome… or in this case Flatbush… do as the locals do… I was worried that it would be too hot and inedible. Apparently, the pepper sauce here isn’t as hot as the shocked gentleman led me to worry about since both my sisters didn’t run to the kitchen sink to soak their tongues. It would appear the food here is uneven; Unilocalers raved about it but a few, like my sisters, complained the meat was somewhat overdone. The chicken comes in three sizes, $ 7, $ 9, $ 11. I got the medium portion for the sisters, which was a portion large enough for two or even three to share. Not sure I’d pick up the much hyped chicken from here again but I’d do the fish in a heartbeat. Also, the festival here is so delicious I could eat a plate of them myself. They remind me of the fried Chinese cruellers, called cow’s tail moustache, not overly sweet and chewy and doughy. They are fantastic by themselves or used to sop up sauce. Food is to go only, and while, the hard working ladies grilling and hacking away at the chicken do their best to move the line, think«island time» as you wait and be patient.

Probably the best jerk chicken in the area. I tried 3 places and this place has the best. Other place might service you premade or left over. Wait at other place might be over 20 minutes. This place makes their long before your order unless they are like super busy. I would just go for chicken only because do you need anything else? Their bean and rice looks great too. I would come back here and try their ox tail on day. Price is very reasonable. If you have a party, order these as finger food. Have fun.

Got a $ 9 jerk chicken meal. It’s several pieces of chicken leg meat on top of a generous bed of rice and beans with cabbage on the side. Given how much food it is, I can’t even imagine how large the $ 11 size would be. The chicken was flavorful and the sauce was nice and tangy. My one complaint is that many parts of the meat inside were fried to a crisp. Not charcoal black, but dark yellow, a sign that the meat has been overdone and lost most of its moisture. However, the flavor and non-burnt parts of the chicken as well as the skin were pretty good. There is no seating available. Take-out only.

After coming from skating I definitely worked up an appetite. This was the perfect restaurant to go to afterwards. The staff was very engaging, funny and helpful. I had the chicken dinner with a lemonade and it was love. It ranked highly on my palette as some of the best jerk chicken I have had. It was well seasoned, the skin was crispy and meat was tender. The accompanying fixings rice and peas, salad and plantains were just as amazing. I will definitely come back for another plate. They also had a special hot sauce as well.

Hole in the wall! Despite the unappealing look of the entrance the food it on point! Trust me, I took the trek to Brooklyn just to eat here. There was a bit of a line and my order was looked over… so I had to wait another 10 minutes on top of the 15 I had already waited on my food. That aside, the jerk chicken was worth the wait. When you come to the line, know what you want. Order by the price of the size of the jerk chicken. I heard the woman in front of me say, «9 dolla jerk meal»…that being what I wanted I said the same thing. I had it with rice and peas and cabbage. They place your open top order on the counter so you can dress it with barbecue sauce and/or jerk sauce(Do it! It’s amazing!) I ordered festival as well… but they only had 1 ready, so I took it and left to enjoy my chicken. There is no seating in the restaurant, but Prospect Park is just a short walk away with benches and a pond to look at while munching. I’ll be back!

Ahhhmazing Jerk Chicken and the portion was insanely big! $ 6 for a small takeout box and you get well worth the $ 6 in chicken. They have 2 sauces spicy and barbecue and both are great! Don’t miss out this place :)

What can I say, it’s a really good jerk spot. I had someone pick up a take out order for me so I can’t give any details as to the staff and décor, but the jerk chicken ranked up there with some of the best I’ve eaten. I’d definitely try them again and think it’s worth trying if you’re craving something spicy.

Wow after reading all of theses reviews i am convinced i must have gone their on the wrong night! The fact that they ran out of chicken, the line was almost out the door and i had to wait like 20 mins for chicken to be ready should say ALOT but it dosent! The chicken was not good it was just OK, not fully cooked and didn’t just fall of the bones. Instead it was though as if i were cutting a steak and tasteless even though i put on alot of bbq/jerk sauce! The Lemonade was my fave w/the brown sugar like Sally’s makes and the fish was good but not good enuff to compensate for the tough, undercooked, tasteless chicken… I think i may have to pay another visit before i completely write this place off!

Escoveitch fish! 3 sizes! Small fish $ 5.00, medium-sized fish $ 6.00 or large size fish $ 7.00. Get that and festival $ 1.00 a piece and make sure ask for extra onions for your fish! That is all!

Hands down THEBESTJERKCHICKEN I’ve ever had! This is exactly what jerk chicken should taste like. Very well seasoned and cooked just right, the meat is very tender and not dry at all. Before she covers your container u can pour jerk sauce and bbq sauce to your liking.(Be careful with the jerk sauce, it’s super spicy lol) order a couple festivals(something like a fried dumpling) and you’re good to go! It’s like a moms and pops spot– take out. It’s open late on weekends. Cash only.

I went to Peppa’s on a Sunday in search of what some say is the best Jerk Chicken in Brooklyn. I was not disappointed, though not yet a convert. Peppa’s is on Flatbush. If I had caught the train, that would not be a problem. But I drove. And finding somewhere to park with the crowds coming to Prospect Park was a problem. I’d highlight that immediately. Fortunately, Peppa’s is a takeout place. Like there are no seats. Like all you can do is take out. It is a very small place that has like 6 items on the menu — which is on a board above the cashier. But the ambiance is negative. Nugatory. Like low even for a takeout food place on Flatbush. Like even for someone who eats out at Caribbean restaurants frequently. Should not bother you, it did not me, but I went on a Sunday afternoon. I came for Jerk Chicken, and that was in the name, as one of the reviewers below notes. The chicken is excellent. Perfectly cooked. Skin was perfectly crispy. The inside was moist. Perfect. Well-done. The rice and peas — sorry my Bahamaian friends — was also well done. No long pieces of thyme branches left in, not overly coconut-ty, and fairly fresh.(You can go to places where that can sit forever.) I asked for cabbage — maybe they do not have it – and got some salad instead. That was a little odd. My only issue is that there was not enough of the Jerk sauce — and I put it on. There are two bottles, one with BBQ sauce and the other with Jerk sauce. I put it on and when I got home I thought I should have asked for more. But the chicken was excellent. As for the Jerk sauce, it was spicy — although a spiciness that creeped up on you and is cumulative. So nothing too hot and very good. My only negative about the food is that I wasn’t blown away. Maybe I’ve had too much jerk chicken from so many places. What was great was the way the chicken was cooked. As for the service and ambiance, sadly many take-out places do not excel there. And this is no exception. However, I am not staying to eat, so as long as the food is good, I am willing to excuse most anything. In short, if you are looking for great jerk chicken, as I was, this will not disappoint.
