Food arrived luke warm and to my surprise the croquettes had numerous short black hairs throughout. The gnocchi sauce tasted like ketchup. Not worth this kind of money for a pizza place. Overpriced and low on satisfaction. Bread was stale.

The pizza was a personal size and super soggy. Actually even the salad was very tiny. Pretty disappointing.

Went there last night for dinner with my aunt the waitstaff was lovely and friendly and the food was good however it is the end of June it was blazing hot. It’s a typical Park slope yuppie spot with no Air conditioning. I’m sorry this is ridiculous in this day and age to have any restaurant that has no air-conditioning not everyone wants to sit in the sweltering heat with sweat dripping off their body ruining their evening.

Excellent place! We had a groupon and it ended up being a real steal! 2 appetizer 2 entrée and a bottle of wine I think it was about $ 60 The waiter could not have been nicer! Food was fresh and too much to eat all of it so we took some home and added the torta Della nonna as well Would go back even without groupon. Very nice evening

My boyfriend and I came to Peperoncino on a Monday night with a groupon we had purchased. When we first arrived we were offered indoor or outdoor seating, but opted for indoor due to the small spaces between outdoor seats. The restaurant itself has an old school Italian feel with a wood burning pizza oven visible to diners, which I think adds a nice touch. Once we were seated we were given a menu and wine list, and offered flat or sparkling water. We asked for bread, and were given a basket of bread with a side chopped mushroom topping on the side. The bread was not warmed, which was disappointing because it was brick oven bread and would of tasted great if it was warm. With the groupon you can opt for two appetizers including anything from the appetizer list, salad, or bruschetta. As for entrees you can choose anything from the menu with the exception of pizza or specials. As an appetizer I got the pulcinella bruschetta and my boyfriend got the polipetti affogati, which they said was octopus, but my boyfriend said it was calamari, though he did say it was tasty. As an entrée I went with the orecchiette with broc rabe that came with baby meatballs and my boyfriend got the tagliata di manzo. My entrée was delicious, they gave very few orecchiette which I thought was great because I was really able to enjoy the broccoli rabe and baby meatballs, it was so tasty and a generous portion. I tried the tagliata di manzo, which was sliced beef with spuds and vegetables, and was delicious as well. The beef was cook perfect. The groupon also offered a bottle of montepulciano wine, which was a great choice, but the wine was really way too warm. It was not served at the correct temperature. All in all this was great experience, and I would return. I do believe the service lacked a bit, and she could of been a bit more attentive, but that would not stop me from returning.

Very good(if not too exciting) affordable Italian food, friendly attentive staff, and a sedate comfortable atmosphere that involves well-chosen and not overly loud 60s and 70s music played through an excellent sound system, contribute to an overall highly satisfactory dining experience. The portions are large bordering on gargantuan, so expect to share. The wine list includes good bargains as well as high-end splurges.

$ 15 for a dessert«special» of a few pieces of fruit and a scoop of ice cream. FIFTEENDOLLARS. We asked why and were given no real explanation. The owner was the person who we asked about this and he sheepishly admitted most desserts were $ 8 or $ 9 and had no explanation why this was so over-priced other than saying something about it being special fruit. Yeah, sure. I think he thought no one would look that closely at the bill but we did and he made no effort to try to fix his silly mark up. Will NOT be back.

This is not a review of the food(adequate) nor a comment on our server/busser(very friendly). However, I will not be back to Peperoncini because I do not like giving money to rude asshats. And the owner qualifies as one. Basically, I ordered a dessert special – which was essentially local market/deli fruit with one scoop of vanilla ice cream – and was charged $ 15. When my friend & I inquired about why this dessert was set at an entrée price and at least $ 5 more than every other dessert on the menu, the owner would only say«It’s special.» I wasn’t expecting anything comped – maybe a few dollars knocked off the price would be fair – but I least expected some friendliness, an apology, or embarrassment at being caught ripping off customers. But no shame, he argued with us and acted like we have no business eating in a Brooklyn restaurant. As a diner, we know and agree to pay a mark up to cover overhead(like a glass of wine is the cost of the bottle)…but it is usually within reason and this was too much. Okay, end rant :)

Never again. Came here before NY Islanders playoff game at Barclay’s Center. This place must not have anticipated a full house because they seemed understaffed. One waitress, two runners and one bartender were serving a full house. My boyfriend and I had to ask to sit right in front of the pizza oven. We waited a really long time for our drinks and two(not very memorable) appetizers. That’s all we ended up having time for because we waited so long! Oh, and they put the paddle that takes the pizzas in and out of the oven on the dirty floor(!!!) That’s not sanitary. Never again. Gross. Don’t even want to know what they do behind the kitchen doors.

Gave this place a try for dinner before an event at the Barclay’s. That turned out to be a bad idea. Our very small salad shows up a half hour after we ordered. Then our dinner gets served to the table behind us that just walked in 10 minutes earlier. So shame on them for accepting food they didn’t order. Waiter tried to lie to us about what happened. I called him out about it and he finally told the truth. We paid for what was served to us and walked out hungry. Avoid this place.

EXCELLENT! Excellent! Please try this restaurant. We were amazed at the fabulous taste and size of the portions. Price was extremely reasonable. Staff went above and beyond to provide excellent service. Extensive wine menu. Homemade pasta. Fresh seafood.

Omg never again … Came here with my family before seeing a concert at Barclay … This place was not our first option but since the waiting time was so long at the first place, we settled here. Food was not only small portions but tasteless. Also this place is supposed to be Italian and they serve margaritas during the happy hour special ! Are you kidding me ??? The topping on the cake was when our busyboy(tall light skinned guy) tried to steal my scarf … I noticed my scarf was missing and when I asked him he said, «oh I thought it was mine, it’s my favorite color»… Ugh get your own dam scarf. He also pulled it out of a closet from the back. Don’t waste your time or money in that dump

I have no idea why there are such bad reviews for this place. We love it there! We go pretty frequently because 1) the service is excellent and 2) the food is very tasty. In fact, one of the waiters, Victor, remembers the wine I like and so I don’t even have to remember myself! The best thing in the menu is their pizza. Better than Artichoke and you get a whole pie for the price of one Artichoke SLICE! The place is great; don’t listen to the other reviews.

My bestie and I stumbled into this spot after we are unable to get reservations else where. This was a plan b, but it was clutch and was a great find. Highlights: The best part of any dinning experience for me is the staff. I do not like spending money in an establishment that has rude staff. The staff here was lovely very kind and welcoming. Our server was Victor and he was great. I actually put my menu down and asked him to pick something for me based of some random details i gave him. And it was great, I had salmon with mash potatoes, spinach, and and chard asparagus My bestie had a seafood pasta that she seemed to enjoy(she finished her food and promptly starting eating mine!) Lost Points: I could just be a lil … bougie but the atmosphere was clashing with my happiness. The lights were low, like most restaurants in the evening. but the tables had brightly colored(dyed) flowers and little flags on the table. Also the bathroom need to be finished, the paint is not finished, it looks like they are like 15 minutes away from being done! So do it! Other then that it was a nice stop, good food, great staff.

$ 90 dollars for the worst meal I have ever paid for. I have never put a review on Unilocal but this food was worth writing something. Worst pizza and worst pasta. It was like dog food. Go to artichoke for a much better meal.

Great food, Amazing waitress, WORST owner ever. A group of 5 of us came here to celebrate my fiancé’s birthday. It was off to a great start. Two bottles of wine, salad, 3 pizzas and a pasta. The food was fantastic. Seriously the home made pasta was great, and the waitress even sold us on one of the special pizzas. The waitress was sweet, well informed and sounded excited about everything on the menu. We ate everything and when it came time for dessert I asked her for some plates because I had brought my fiancé’s favorite dessert cake and we wanted to sing her happy birthday. Not such a crazy thing to do in a restaurant. She came back holding plates and looking kinda down and said she hated to do this but the owner said it would be $ 15 if we wanted to sing happy birthday with our own dessert. Mind you at this point the bill was already close to $ 200 we were obviously not trying to avoid paying for a dessert, but it was her birthday and wanted to bring her something special. We passed on paying $ 15 for empty plates and honestly all of the great tastes from dinner got replaced with an awful taste in my mouth from the owner wanting to ruin a great meal. When I went in to say something to the owner a few different waitresses asked me not to say anything and it almost seemed as if they were scared of him. Honestly the whole thing is a shame because the food was so good we would’ve been back a bunch. But now I will never go there again. $ 15 for empty plates after we had obviously spent a decent amount of $ for 5 people.

It’s too bad that people have hit or miss experiences here, because this was a complete hit for me. A friend and I walked in Monday evening after wandering around for a bit, having no idea where we were going. My phone was dead and I had no way to plan in advance(SO unlike me). We picked it utterly randomly — because it was beautifully inviting from the outside and because I love pickled peperoncini. Despite the initial draw, our orders had no peperoncini involved. I picked the gnocchi and he got a pizza, which unfortunately isn’t listed on their website’s menu, but was delicious — mozzarella, tomato sauce, and some kind of spicy salami. The sauce was excellent, both in my gnocchi and on his pizza. I wouldn’t say it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had(Di Fara’s is, for the record) but it’s pretty high up there. For the price, it was great bang for the buck. The gnocchi WAS one of the best renditions I’ve ever had. Utterly tender and delicious — already dreaming about it again. The service was incredibly friendly, the Italian waiter’s accent genuine, and the ambiance sublime. I mean, brick walls, flickering candlelight, and a huge gorgeous pizza oven? You can’t really go wrong. This was the definition of rustic. Bonus — people next to us were speaking Italian. Authentic! We were talked through the specials but they were also printed out as a flyer in our menu. A big pet peeve is when specials(and their prices!) aren’t actually written down anywhere. Love that this place got that right. The specials looked fantastic — already looking forward to returning and trying them. We were given a few tastes of different wines before going with our server’s initial recommendation — more bonus points to him for picking something that went so perfectly with our meals. He was careful to give the price of the wine when he recommended it to us(it was new and not listed in the menu) which I loved — nothing more awkward than asking the price of things that aren’t written down anywhere. He also treated us to an adorable story involving Andrea Bocelli. A sweetheart, all around. The only part I didn’t absolutely love was the free bread served with our meal. It was room temperature, lacking that beautiful crust, and served with a cold eggplant mixture. The taste of both was fine, but it didn’t feel homey and warm and fresh, like the rest of our meal. That said, it was free — not knocking off points for that. The vibe of this place is very European — i.e. service is leisurely and you will be allowed to sit as long as you like. No one will give you the check until you ask for it. Which, personally, I love. It allows the world to recede so you can actually emerge from dinner refreshed. But be prepared in case you’re trying to dash quickly. I’d really recommend this place for dining in, for a slow, romantic experience. It’s stellar for date nights if you actually like the person with whom you’re spending time and have lots to talk about. If you’re ordering takeout or delivery or trying to eat quickly, you’ll still get great food, but you’ll miss what was to me a really great facet of this restaurant. I found this place to be massively underrated on Unilocal — I loved it.
