The optometrist here, while very nice, is not very good at her job. After two years I decided it was time to get my eyes checked. I have a fairly complicated prescription but the glasses I currently had were working out for me. I just wanted a new prescription so I could pickup some new frames over at Warby Parker(because screw Luxottica). Little did I know I would walk out of this Pearle Vision with the WRONGPRESCRIPTION. One of my eyes was written up to be much weaker than I actually have. Fast forward a few weeks to where I pick up my new glasses at Warby Parker. The one eye is much weaker and I can’t read distance out of it. The technicians at Warby Parker confirm that the one lens of the new glasses is significantly weaker than the same lens in my old ones. So I go back over to this Pearle Vision with my old pair and new pair and the optometrist insists that the two pairs are almost the same prescription(They aren’t! My eyes tell me they aren’t! Warby Parker tells my they aren’t! Isn’t part of your job suppose to be to read glasses prescriptions?!). So now to prove that my OLD glasses are stronger and closer to what I actually need I have to go BACK to Warby Parker to get a printout of my old script and take it back to this Pearle Vision to PROVE that they are different. If you have any sort of complicated prescription for your eye glasses just do yourself a favor and stay away!

The staff was courteous, but quoted an outrageous price for the eyeglass lens I needed.

I had to charge lens prescription. From the start, there was no customer service. You don’t feel welcome or that your business is appreciated. I ordered the lens, it was a Tuesday and was told that they should arrive either Friday of that week or the next Monday. I was told I will be called. Friday, no one called, Monday no one called. I called on Tuesday and was told that the lens arrived but needs to be put into the frame. It was 4 pm, I was told to come around 5 pm to pick them up. I arrive at 5 pm and to my surprise I was told that one of the lens cracked. They could have called so I wouldn’t waste my trip. The personnel, instead of saying, I’m sorry for the inconvenience, he was blaming the lens, saying it was too thin. bare in mind, it was 1.25. My previous prescription was 0.5 and the other optical store never broke and never complained of how thin it was. Anyway, I was told to come next week, a Tuesday and I made sure I gave them my number so they can call. A week later, of course no one called. i called and was told the lens arrived. I went to pick it up, they gave me the frame, the lens as is, no bag, nothing, the lens not even cleaned, dust from buffing the lens glass all over the edges. No apologies for the delay. Instead, I felt they were doing me a favor. All in all, bad customer service, no communication, sloppy job. I hope the owner take a look at those reviews and start making changes to the way his business is conducted.

I went to this Pearle Vision location and was very pleased with my experience. I did have an appointment and was actually seen right away. I had my exam with Dr. Cohen and she was really nice, personable and thorough. She took her time with the eye exam to ensure I was receiving the proper prescription and for my contact lenses. It was the most personal experience I’ve had at any doctor’s office. The exam price is comparable to other optometrist offices. The contact lenses were the same price as online, so not much mark-up and it’s more convenient to get them right away. I would definitely recommend this location!

I go here strictly because it’s convenient. The doctor(Dr. Steinman, I think?) is very pleasant and thorough. The customer service could be a little better, but wasn’t bad compared to what others have said on here. I’ve been examined here twice and it’s been fine. My only real complaint is that for a run of the mill chain eyeglass shop, the price of a set of frames is anger-inducingly high. So, have a good eye plan if you go here!

This review is not for the actual quality of the exam. I wish I could give negative. Have you ever wanted to spend $ 150 on contacts but the guy can’t deal with you on the phone and tells you he’ll call you back? Have you ever wanted to not be called back? Have you ever then wanted to read a cc number over the phone?(Ok, this one is my bad for not stopping in again but they close waaaay early. See below.) Here’s the best part. A lady calls, tells me my contacts are ready. I ask her what time they stay open. She’s already hung up. Minus 5 stars. I call back. I ask her when they close, she says 7pm. Ok, I guess they don’t actually want to make money off of people who, like, have 9 – 7 jobs, like many people in NYC. Now, here comes minus 10 stars for self loathing. Since she’d been so rude before, when the lady on the phone didn’t yell at me when I asked when they closed, I wanted to thank her. The one day I get to leave work early, face a stuffed F train, rush to Pearle Vision and thankfully arrive at 6:57. Too bad. Try again later. They are closed.

This place is SO disorganized! My first interaction with them, they scheduled me for an appointment with the doctor on a day that he wasn’t at this location. I took off work and everything to make the appointment and when I arrived there was no doctor. I was really frustrated. Fortunately, they were able to fit me in at the Montague Street location. Dr. Steinman is competent and I like him. But, I was NOT thrilled about having to spend money on a cab to get to the other location. They gave me a discount for the hassle so I decided to give them another chance. Fast forward. I needed to order contacts. The process was fine. But then things started to go wrong. Like the previous reviewer, they did not call me when my contact lenses came in. Then, again I left work early to get to the location before it closed at 7. I got there in plenty of time(6:20) and they were closed and locked. No note. No nothing. INFURIATING! To the owners of this store: get your act together. It’s 2014. Update your website with accurate hours. Use an electronic scheduling system(really? an appointment book?). I want to support brick and mortar stores but this experience has been AWFUL and I will no longer support this location.

I used to go to the Pearle Vision on Montague St. When I learned that Dr. Steinman also works at the Park Slope location, I was delighted to know I can go somewhere closer. Dr. Steinman, as always, is super friendly and competent. I have trusted him for years. However, the difference in quality of service between the Montague and 7th Avenue locations are quite stark. This Pearle Vision in Park Slope seems to be lacking in customer service. No one contacted me when my new contact lenses had come in. And when I stopped by to pick them up, they were not adequately prepped for pick up. I had to soak my own lenses overnight and scrub them myself. Quite disappointing. Makes me re-think about returning to the Montague St. location.
