Seems like this place tend to get only 1 review each year. There was 1 in 2011, 1 in 2012, and now mine in 2013. Whew… I barely made it by the year end deadline. Don’t want to break tradition and all that you know. I’m not really sure if this place is still called Pan Pan Sweets or Yogurt City as indicted by some of the stickers but it’s the only froyo place still located within this food court. It used to be in the middle along with the rest of the food vendors but have since relocated to the front door area. At 39 cents an oz, it isn’t overly pricey. They carry a variety of froyo flavors including such non typical ones like taro not found in American places. Despite the different selection available, all the flavors were a bit on the mildly artificial side, not exactly tasting natural or what they were supposed to be. The flavors were also a bit subtle instead of intense. The topping station’s selection is on the middling side of choices available, having the typical choices of fruits, seeds, chocolates, candies, etc found at most froyo places. They have recently started to sell tea eggs and boiled peanuts here. Non of which I have tried myself. Is there better froyo places out there? Definitely. Sadly non others are to found anywhere else near the Chinatown at 8th Avenue Brooklyn. This would have to do for now until new competition pop up someday.

One day I’m at Fei Long, walking through an empty lot, and the next, I’m waltzing into a damned food court. Bravo, Chinese construction men. I don’t know how you did it so fast, but you did it. The food court houses a bunch of new stands, including Pan Pan Sweets. Knowing that I didn’t have to trek all the way to Manhattan to get a cup of over-priced froyo was probably the most appealing factor that the establishment could offer. Unfortunately, the cheapness was reflected in the quality of the yogurt. Though they offered a variety of flavors, only four were avaliable. Oddly enough, the original one was not available. I tasted the banana flavor, which tasted extremely artificial and nothing like banana. The cookie dough flavor one tasted like diluted chocolate milk that was churned into yogurt. Bleh. I settled for mango, which had the mildest flavor. It was more refreshing than any other flavor. Filling it near the top, I stacked on the toppings. It includes the regular stuff like cereal, yogurt chips, and various fruits. They also offered assorted gummy candies. The fruits were a good contrast to the yogurt’s assertive sweetness. The yogurt chips tasted weird and hard. My yogurt came out to be 1.18 pounds or so. Yikes. I shouldn’t have eaten so much yogurt. But what can you do? Anyways, at .39 cents an ounce, you can’t really complain. Mine cost 5 dollars, with change. I do have to warn that when you eat a pound+ of yogurt, it gets sweet really fast. Pan Pan Sweets can’t compare to the big shots like Pinkberry and Red Mango, and I’d probably laugh if someone told me that the yogurt was organic, but who cares? I’m cheap and lazy, so Pan Pan Sweets will do for me when that frozen yogurt craving hits.

Frozen Yogurt has come to 8th Ave! No idea what they’re planning to do with the other half of the huge space they have, but so far there are self-serve froyo machines on the side with toppings/register near the front. The cups they have are huge, and they charge you 39 cents an ounce. That’s the weight including any toppings you add(by yourself). Not too bad, but it sure does add up. The original isn’t as tart as I’d like, but the vanilla and chocolate are alright. Get the mochi and cookie dough toppings! Since I was confused about what to do, here are directions for your benefit: 1) Get a cup from the counter 2) Go to the side(by the entrance to the supermarket) and fill up with any combination of yogurt you want 3) Go to the toppings station and get as much as you want 4) Put it on the weigh station and pay 5) Froyo goodness!
