I love New York in June, and Brooklyn in October. How about you? Nice clean B&B for those who want to get a feel for the neighborhood and the borough. The couple that runs the place are fun, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. It’s a brisk 30 minute walk from NYC Brooklyn to the Brooklyn Bridge and another 10 minutes crossing the bridge into Manhattan. If you don’t like walking you’re a stones throw from the subway station. Don’t miss the Brooklyn Promenade and see it twice, once in the daylight and once at night. Then walk across the bridge and have lunch or dinner in Chinatown or Little Italy.

Who doesn’t love visiting NYC? Who isn’t broke after just a weekend here? At $ 150 a night, this Brooklyn B and B is a serious bargain, a block away from the Barclay’s Center(Nets arena), in the heart of the BAM historic district, the location is very convenient. It’s so close to a major subway hub, it takes much longer to figure out which train to take than it does to walk there from the B and B. An interesting thing about Brooklyn natives, no matter how tough, busy, and inconsiderate they look when you walk past them, any will give you excellent subway directions, and ask any three and you will get three different opinions on which combination of trains and transfers is best. It’s pretty interesting, you have to try asking for subway directions. The B and B is very close to the wonderful Brooklyn Academy of Music, and the hosts are very knowledgeable about the arts, he’s an architect, a former musician, she’s an artist, they speak English and French, they have a very good sense of when to leave guests alone and mind their own business, but can be very helpful in navigating the city. They are especially helpful if you are from a French speaking country, or if you have access or special needs due to disability. Note, this old 19th century house is certainly not wheelchair accessible, it’s that the owners have a special needs adult child and know a lot about these things. The house itself is quite the experience, it’s not cramped and filled with potpourri like too many B and B’s I’ve suffered in, this is roomy and still being restored, decorated with a tasteful collection of antique and some modern art, it’s a little like spending the night in an art museum, if that’s ever tempted you. I stayed in a room with these curious and interesting dolls, which then creeped me out in the middle of the night, you might want to think about these things before you settle on a room. They have a big private basement apartment for longer stays, a choice of rooms upstairs, the house is very vertical connected by an ancient winding steep wooden staircase. I’m a little scared of heights, but I managed. One of the biggest perks for me was being walking distance from a dizzying array of authentic different Asian restaurants, from Indonesian to Sinhalese, if I had the money I would stay here a month, and still wouldn’t eat in the same good ethnic restaurant twice, without walking farther than 6 blocks. I highly recommend this B and B for tourists, short term to weeks long visitors to Brooklyn, as a base to explore the NYC area without breaking the bank. I especially recommend this B and B for visitors with an interest in pro basketball, with special needs children, who speak French, who love music and the arts, who have an interest in architecture, or who like a variety of authentic Asian cuisines.
