Very sad to report but I think this place is closed. This was one of my favorite bakeries. So many of the great Italian restaurants, pizza shops and bakeries of my youth are gone. They have now been replaced mainly by Chinese and Middle Eastern restaurants. Best of luck to the family. Hope you are just relocating somewhere else and not closing for good.

Awesome Cannoli, great pies and breads. This is a primo Italian bakery with a cozy ‘neighborhood’ atmosphere. Try the cheesecakes… they’re to die for.

I’ve been coming here for years and this is my go to italian bakery. The italian cookies are great since they’re filled with raspberry jam and the pastries are the best around town. I recently bought a cake and a fruit tart. The recommended cake was the strawberry banana chocolate cake which I had never heard of. Good thing I took their recommendation as the cake was so soft and the strawberry and banana mix was great. The fruit tart was spectacular as well with all the fresh fruit covering the top. The prices here are the same as anywhere else so I’m not sure why you would go anywhere else.

They get four stars for attentive customer service but they’re really a five star food establishment and here’s why. Practically everything I’ve bought from here is nothing short of fantastic. From the espresso-based drinks, the cookies/pastries, you name it. They are all fresh, and you never have to worry about being handed anything stale. They check for quality and they bake all their cakes/pastries from this facility every day.(Don’t ask me about the cookies, though.) Never-mind that Italian bakeries are disappearing left and right(it grieves me to no end), but the pastries that we’ve all grown up with can only be found here, in this cute/quaint store/bakery if you’re in this part of the neighborhood. There are at least three such bakeries(Italian) I fancy in Bay Ridge and they’re Monaco’s, Jean Danet, and Rocco’s. I’d visit them all everyday if I could but I only have two feet and one stomach, so there’s that. The only thing that takes away from the experience are the employees, which are hit-and-miss when the owners aren’t around. I’d prefer a consistent experience, if you don’t mind. Overall, it’s a 4.5÷5.0 coming from me.

Nestled within the walls of Monaco’s Bakery lies an abundance of glittering sugared gems that sparkle and delight all of the senses. I tried a flaky and buttery chocolate filled croissant that melted in my mouth. From the outside you can observe the bakers hard at work. They are sweet people that truly take pride in their products with a true neighborhood atmosphere since they seem to know their regulars by a first name basis. I cannot wait to try the rest of their goodies!

Our very dear friend is in the hospital and had one request yesterday… a cannoli. I took to Unilocal to see if there were any nearby places that had excellent reviews for cannoli. We picked Monaco’s because they had a lot of good reviews and one reviewer said the cannoli were fresh filled. I told the woman behind the counter that I was on the way to the hospital, and that our friend who is hardly eating asked for a cannoli. I wanted to get the minis but she didn’t have them so I took 6 regular sized. She told me they were buy five get one free. Okay sounds good. She also asked if I wanted cake, buy one cake get one half price. I was not interested, I was on the way to the hospital so just the cannoli. She rang me up and said $ 10.50 and I gave her my debit card, then she said she made a mistake its $ 17.50. She said the cannoli are $ 3.50 each — its the going price, and that one was free. I am not doubting this, if I go into a bakery to pick up dessert it I normally get a few things and that seems about right. Here’s the problem. The cannoli were so disgusting that they went in the garbage. The shells were soft and mushy and the cannoli cream was stale and hard. Absolutely inedible. Kudos to Monaco’s for getting rid of all of their stale cake before closing for Labor Day. My cannoli’s were fresh filled — no doubt — but they were fresh filled at a minimum two days prior. The only thing worse then being swindled was disappointing my sick friend. I don’t write reviews but I had to on this one.

First, I must tell you that the owners of Monaco’s are fantastic — down to earth, easy to talk to and they provided an amazing strawberry shortcake for our party! I was having a baby shower for my friend and I wasn’t sure what type of cake I wanted. I saw that Monaco’s was known for their strawberry shortcake so I thought that would be good. I had no idea that after the cake was served the whole room would want to know where the cake was from because it was fresh and delicious! The strawberry shortcake isn’t overly sweet and artificial tasting, it’s just fresh and delicious — the way a cake should be! I was delighted that the guests loved it! Thanks Monaco’s — I’ll be back for our next party!

I tried to come here a few times after work around 6PM and it seemed to always be closed. I decided to come here one day before work around 1PM and I finally found them open ! I got a whole pie of NY Original cheesecake, black and white chocolate mousse and a strawberry shortcake. They were all bomb. Just that the black and white chocolate mousse was a little bit too sweet. Overall spent $ 23 which seem pretty decent.

Hmm… I guess 3.5… Cake was tasty, the cream wasn’t too heavy like how some other bakeries would have.(What kind of cream is it exactly?). The strawberries inside were fresh. It had a nice crunch to it… yea I like firm strawberries. my only issue was that I wish there was more cake inside. The cake layers were very thin. The cake held well also, since I bought it on Thursday, but didn’t get to eat it until Saturday. This was supposed to be the family’s Chinese New Year cake not cake for Feb 1st… Also, how much were the butter cookies? Did I hear $ 16/lb??? I hope I heard wrong.

I always need my dessert fix after breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I decided to Unilocal a new place to try and came upon this bakery. Though it was a bit of a drive, it was so worth it!!! Service: Out of this world, friendly! The guy behind the counter not only greeted us, but offered to explain what everything was since it was our first time at the bakery. Pastries: We opted for the Italian cheesecake, pumpkin cheesecake, strawberry shortcake, apple turnover, and cannoli. The apple turnover was warm, chewy/crunchy, and perfectly flavored. The cannoli was crunchy and absolutely delicious. The cream is freshly piped upon ordering and was a bit on the sweet side, but paired with a cappuccino? Perfection! The pumpkin cheesecake was okay; I found the pumpkin flavor too subtle. The Italian cheesecake was AMAZING! Yum! A must try! Their award winning strawberry shortcake delivered as promised! So light and fluffy! Delicious! So good, in fact, that I’m running straight to the fridge after this to finish it! Price: Very fair for the quality of the pastries and service! Everything here is fresh including their whipped cream! Will definitely have to come back here to try their cookies and other goodies!

Okay. So it is the middle of November in Brooklyn, NY and it is pretty cold outside. I am not from the area and I need a cup of coffee. What did I do? Rely on Unilocal!Unilocal takes me to Monaco’s where I go in and immediately love the interior, it is very warm(plus) and I meet Tommy(employee). Super cool guy! I order a cappuccino and could not help but ask what was the name of a croissant they had on display… It was an almond croissant. Best croissant ever! Tommy and the other employees have 5-star customer service, believe that!!! I apologize in advance to Tommy if he reads this review, but he shared with me something delicious and healthy! I am upset I cannot remember the name; just ask«what’s new?»… To conclude this review: 5-star café, really chilled, natural ingredients, great customer service! Will recommend!

The employees are super nice and the pumpkin pie and coconut custard are to die for. Not to mention the delish and rich coffee. Came here for the first time while waiting for my grandmother at the doctors office nearby. Excellent way to kill time.

Im a repeat croissant offender here bc they have the best(hands down or rise a roof, choose your own dance move) almond croissant in the Bay of Ridge. I will also mention they have very good coffee. I will refrain from commenting on their other pastries since all I need is the croissant. Seriously the selection of croissant in BR is very un-delicious, in-edible even. Sad face on real face. DO — Go as early as possible. DO — Get the Almond Croissant. DON’T — even look at the plain or chocolate(cheap syrupy tasting) DO — Get their very well made coffee DON’T — even think about buying the last one(if when i get there and there’s none left i will turn on the drama) DO — get the rainbow cookies, those are good too. DO — sit down and relax a bit, the people are very warm and friendly.

Thankfully, Bakeries in Bay Ridge are very plentiful. I stumbled upon this place, which used to house a health food store. Maybe that’s commentary on where our proper Brooklyn priorities are placed. And, I for one, am thankful they moved in here. I just tried the Blueberry scone, and the coconut macroons. The blueberry scone with slightly soft on top, but overall firm like piecrust all around in this small triangle of happiness.(would go awesome with my morning coffee, but I wasn’t waiting around for that on this lunch time call) I also grabbed some half chocolate dipped coconut macaroons which were some of the freshest I’ve ever had. Not too«sticky», and not too dry. This place looks like it could be serious player in Bay Ridge. I’m going to have to head back and sample more items.
