I hate most box stores. I love a classic neighborhood hardware store where I can bring in some small plumbing part and from down the aisle they know exactly what I need. And I like that they are so helpful. Especially when I have no idea what I am doing. I’d so much rather buy lets say a faucet from a place that knows that I don’t know to use silicone tape than some big box store that could care less that I am a plumbing(and electrical and carpentry) newbie.

This is a great store. I love to patronize good neighborhood stores. This is one of those stores all the way. Last year, I was picking out paint and must have gone to this store a zillion times trying to find the right color and getting supplies. The guys in this store are professional, patient, extremely knowledgeable and soooooooo helpful. Whatever you want they got it or will get it. Will answer any question and treat you with courtesy. Something that is lost in most stores these days. It’s nice to still have a store like this to go to.

This is, by far, the best hardware store I have ever been to! The shop owner is always there and always willing to give advice. The guy really knows his stuff. I recently bought a house and have been doing projects on my own. So far, he has helped me with cement work, removing rust from iron, fixing a leaky pipe, cleaning a deck and staining a deck. They have every tool I need, and if they’re out of something, they will gladly order it for you.

They know their stuff. If I have a question, I’d rather go to these guys than to Home Depot or Lowes. Do I pay slightly more? Yes, but this is an instance where having a knowledgeable staff really sets them apart.

Here’s the perfect example of a «mom and pop» business having just as much importance as the big box competitors! Their walls are so stacked with products that you probably will find the everyday item you need in 1⁄50th of the space of a Lowe’s or Home Depot! Don’t get me wrong, the big box hardware stores are pretty cool to shop at, but there are times you just want to walk into a store, not wait in line forever, talk to a friendly person, get the advice and item you need and go home! My first visit to MP Hardware was to check out the Benjamin Moore selection they carry so we can paint our kid’s room, and as my wife was looking a went up and down the 3 aisles in the small store and found some cool stuff! Because it’s a small location, don’t be surprised when seasonal items like salt sells out quick before a snow storm! Don’t get caught up in the stigma that a smaller store like this can’t satisfy your needs because chances are they will come though! Highly recommended!

Randy, you’re so right. Now that we have a Lowe’s as well as a Home Depot, and Doody’s, I want to give a shout-out to Marine Park Hardware, my neighborhood store which I use often. They really do have friendly, personalized service and reasonable prices. Last winter I bought ice-melter there, and I appreciated a lot that one of the guys carried it to my car for me. More recently I went in there for silicon glue and a wood-framed adjustable-width window screen. They usually have just what I need.

This is what a neighborhood hardware store should be: courteous, accessable, friendly, knowledgable and crammed with everything you need to fix your ancient house or your brand new snow-blower! Greg & Scott always seem to have all the answers to whatever questions I have and have talked me off the ledge during several projects, including complex plumbing jobs I shouldn’t have started in the first place. The store is as old as the surrounding neighborhood, which means that they probably have that funky old fixture or fitting you need for your restoration. Which is not to stay that they don’t stay on top of current products. There is always something cool at the front counter to grab your interest that Greg picked up at the last hardware show. Prices are market fair and competitive. More important, the level of service and care that you get here is key. You won’t get this kind of attention at a mega-store with 56 aisles and a hot dog stand. Marine Park Hardware is a quintessential neighborhood store that deserves your business and always gets mine.
