Overpriced. I am very much in shock. 2 pieces of simple waffle and 1 sausage bill came out $ 14. Ok, it was a mistake, and another bill came and $ 7.63. On the menu, $ 5.75 plus tax and still over priced. I didn’t know I would only get 1 sausage. Never go back. Playing with the price doesn’t feel pleasant.

I won’t complain. Been passing this place daily since moving back to Brooklyn, and planned to eat there. Finally had the chance to. I had the BBQ chicken dinner plate with macaroni and cheese, and collard greens. Chicken was delightful, greens were good, Mac and cheese wasn’t quite as I like it but still enjoyable. I will definitely return for whatever soul food I am craving in the future and especially to ensure that black businesses remain open in Brooklyn.

Food is a step beyond decent. Not gonna front. But seriously? The plate was nearly $ 15 and the portions for the sides were… less than favorable. I’m not happy. But dang it– I’ll probably be back due to lack of consistency at most ‘soul food’ spots. Sigh. P. S. Ribs were ok. No bones in sight cuz the young man said it was that tender they fell off the bone. Whatever. Maybe I wanted the bone! The white rice and gravy was bland. Cabbage was just ok. Verdict: not worth my $ 15. They won’t be seeing me til I’m desperate.

Cute local Bedstuy with hearty breakfast and authentic soul food. I had the fish and grits breakfast with eggs, delicious, filling, and very inexpensive. No bathroom for customers however, and only one server who was pretty busy, but I would still definitely come back.

I tried to give this place a chance but after 3 – 4 attempts I can only give them 2 stars. The food is average, sometimes to greasy or just blah. It always takes forever to get your food even if there are only 1 – 2 people waiting. I think the staff isn’t good with multi-tasking. I once waited 15 minutes for an order of fries that were soggy and greasy. I left it right there and went to the Chinese food place up the street… Hot, crisp fries in 5 minutes. If you know how, I suggest making your own soul food for better results.

Solid breakfast spot with good food, really good prices and better vibes. Ma has the 60s oldies playing with a black and white movie going, there is also this really dope poster of Dr King, Malcolm X and Harriet Tubman. I’m happy this spot exists in the heart of bed-stuy… Because it’s getting crazy around here. Coming back for dinner sometime soon.

Bed Stuy staple and the best fried chicken I’ve tasted outside of North Carolina. Made fresh and with love in a cozy family environment. The seating is meager and the tables are small but the food and service are stellar. The fare is cheap for what it is.

This place is adorable. Come on. Red and white gingham tables. Diner counter. Mac and cheese. And the cover of their menu. Geeze. It’s a refreshing change to a lot of BK restaurants that are a little too stylized IMO. Reclaimed wood, tin ceilings, exposed pipes, I GETIT, Brooklyn. MNP serves good comfort food for its price point. And honestly, I don’t want to have to pay $ 17 for every fried chicken meal I crave. Sometimes I’ve had a bad day and I really need comfort in the form of fried chicken – and I still want to be able to make rent at the end of the month. You keep doing you, Ma-N-Pop, please.

Being from the south this made me feel right at home. They had a smothered pork chop that made me miss my own ma’ n pop. You might not be into soul food but these guys deserve a try if you haven’t already. Aaaand they serve breakfast all day!!! What more can you ask for?

I love supporting local businesses, this place has been on the block for quite sometime, however as the neighborhood changed so has this locally own and operated dive. This mom and pop location actually made quiet changes with décor and added some nostalgia and color with vintage table clothes to give that seventies feeling. This is a local fav among the T.V. & film industry, the television series Law & Order shuts down the block and films here occasionally. They serve breakfast all day, I had french toast which was light and fluffy, but I’m looking for their signature meal, you know what I’m talking about that certain something with a stamp on it that you can only get there. something I can tell my friends. It was just average. My friend ordered turkey wings and collard greens, the turkey wings were huge and seasoned well, but they were sold out of collard greens at 6 p.m. I’m going back to give this place another try because this restaurant has been here forever and a day and they have a loyal following. I’m going to come back just to see what the hype is all about.

I wanted to like this place… I really did but, my experience there was nothing short ridiculously disappointing. If I could leave zero stars I would and I do not like leaving negative reviews. I ordered 5 dinners to go. 4 Fried chicken dinners(3 breast and 1 leg dinners) and 1 pork chopped bbq dinner at 4:30 pm. The waiter repeated my order back to me. He asked if I wanted pork or chicken chopped bbq dinner twice, and twice I answered pork. At 5:07 pm the waiter that took my order appeared with the dinners and guess what? There was no pork chopped bbq dinner, there was chicken chopped bbq. I told the waiter that I asked for pork and not chicken. His response, «Oh yeah, that’s right you did ask for pork, I’m sorry, so are you going to take this order?» He was serious and really expected me to say, ok no worries I’ll take and pay for what I don’t want. I asked him to please fill my order the way that I requested it, he comes back to me 3 minutes later(yes I timed it, by this point 45 minutes have passed) and says it will take another 15 — 20 minutes before I get my order. WTH? I asked him to remove the chopped bbq dinner and I would pay for the rest of the dinners. This did not go over well with the staff in the kitchen — I could hear every word said by the kitchen staff. At this point, I am starting to get annoyed and ask the waiter to please ring me up. Another 5 minutes later the waiter returns with my bill… $ 63.75. $ 63.75 for what I ask. Dude proceeds to tell me that the chicken breast dinners are 11.75 each and the chicken leg dinner was $ 8.75 that is why my final tally was $ 63.75. GTFOH! I tell him to redo the bill because #1) the menu does not state that the chicken breasts have a price tag that is $ 3.00 higher than the chicken leg and 2) no matter which way you add the bill up it does not equal $ 63.75. So the waiter goes back to add up the food and guess what the total with tax is??? $ 46.25. Where the hell did he get $ 63.75 from??? Then the icing on the cake was when he returned with my change, he gave me too much money back!!! WTH again. I told him he gave me too much money and he look confused. So I get home with the food, it smells good but, damn it all to hell… The food is at best mediocre!!! the chicken breasts are over cooked and tough!!! All of this for bland food!!! NEVERAGAIN! There are far better soul food places in Bed-Stuy.

Bed-Stuy is quickly becoming gentrified, evident partly in the cream of trendy restaurants, wine bars and happy hour hangouts taking crop in the neighborhood. With the arrival of richer folk comes the closing up shop of many corner bodegas and staple businesses(so sad to see Halsey Street Food gone this year!) who either can’t afford the rising rents or have seen their clientele move on to cheaper pastures. An authentic gem of a restaurant, Ma n Pop has the essence of Bed Stuy in its food– cheap, filling comfort that screams HOME to blue– and white-collar workers alike. It’s something shared and familiar across many divides. We had a fantastic late lunch in-house, we met the owner(who happens to not only cook everything on the menu herself, but also plays server and busboy), and we really felt like we were supporting black, local business. Do yourself a favor and get the chopped chicken. Mind-blowing! The yams, Mac n cheese and collard greens are recommended sides. Ma n Pop also serves breakfast throughout business hours. I love Bed-Stuy! I love Brooklyn! Support local business!

This was the worst place I’ve ever attempted to sit down to eat. And I chose my words wisely in that sentence because after almost an hour of waiting, I never received my food. I went with my brother and sister for Sunday brunch. The waiter was incompetent: he rushed us to make a decision in what we wanted to order. We received neither silverware nor napkins, and didn’t get cups of water until the food was almost ready. The food was served on paper plates — yes, paper plates in lieu of actual dishes — and no one’s food was satisfying. My order was simple — I wanted some eggs, sausage and corned beef hash with a lemonade before my food came. First, there wasn’t any lemonade left. Then, they only had a small. Nearly 20 minutes later, after repeated requests was my lemonade brought — it was the highlight of my day; it was actually really good. My brother got his food first. The eggs looked basic, his hash browns looked wet and his bacon was overcooked. The oil from his food had seeped through the bottom of the paper plate. My sister was next: she ordered chicken and waffles. Her fried chicken breast was as tough as the Memphis Grizzlies, her waffle had no flavor whatsoever. It was essentially inedible. My baby niece Ari got her food third: it took them 45 minutes to make my three-year-old baby niece a BACONSANDWICH. It was here that repeated requests for water, silverware and napkins were obliged. At this point, the waiter emerged from the kitchen to tell me there was no more corned beef hash. Nearly an hour after we placed our orders, he told me what I wanted was unavailable. I told him OK, if the rest of the dish is ready I’ll just eat eggs, sausage and home fries — that’s a complete meal, right? 10 minutes later, I still have no food. The woman who sat next to me and ordered 15 minutes after me got her food, while I sat there hungry. I asked the waiter the status of my food and he said the chef had just begun to cook. Over an hour after I ordered, I was still food-less. Disgusted, I got up and left, walked over to Lucky House Kitchen and ate some Chinese food. Do NOT suffer the same fate I did. Establishments like this should be relinquished. Avoid this place at all costs — unless you want to wait 10 minutes for a relatively good lemonade.

I actually use to like eating here… but now… If I could give a ZERO I would. The service was something out of a horror movie. The young man they have waiting tables there need to look into another avenue of work… because he is deplorable at this one. Took over 40 minutes to get a simple breakfast order that they got wrong. Food was cold and tasteless. We had to ask our server at least 5 – 6 times for this or that. Simple things like the tea and juice we ordered 30 minutes ago. My God!!! It was not just us… everyone in there was complaining. Poor fella was working for free that day, because NOONE was leaving tips for him he was that bad. But the gotcha gotcha was when we finally got our check it was wrong. Silly me to have expected it to be remotely correct after our circus service. So we complained and the owner said«well they ordered the orange juice so what it is frozen, they have to pay for it’. Really…frozen orange juice and we should pay. I think you all get the jest… if you want horrible, rude service and cold bland food… well head on down to Ma-N-Pop.

«Wanted to try the ribs but…» This is a nice little gem of a restaurant on Lewis Ave. There are only a few tables and dinning bar to get your soul(or comfort, for me) food fix. I came on a Sunday afternoon, around 4pm, and it was pretty much empty. Maybe it was empty because I missed the brunch rush or people were getting take out. I had the catfish with collards and mac n cheese. I do have to say that the food was pretty good. The collards had the perfect amount of vinegar added to them and they went down fairly easily. I do have to say that many places cannot make collards but this place did them justice. The fried catfish was a little bland but it was not super greasy. My one complaint is that the place did not have a visible bathroom, which I hate in restaurants. I really wanted to have the ribs but I am a bit of a germaphobe, so I like to wash my hands before eating food with my hands. Other than that the place was pretty standard with no frills. Plus, the food is very affordable. Nowadays, it seems you can put«soul food» in your restaurant’s name and that gives you justice to charge $ 20+ for a plate. I am very glad that this place is not one of those places. I will return to try some more things on the menu. But, I will be sure to bring the hand sanitizer and pee before entering the restaurant.
