I don’t come to Red Hook often, but I was here moving some stuff into a storage unit and randomly ran into this place. This area is very industrial which can give off a cold vibe, so it was nice to see a cute little storefront with personality. I had been craving bibimbap for a while so the food REALLY hit the spot– very tasty and flavorful, a decent portion, and a decent price. I also loved their aesthetic with all the potted plants and clean design. So yummy I may have to make more random trips to Red Hook just to come here!

I have ordered from Kimchi Grill many times on grubhub. They are usually on time with the correct order. One time they were very late(2 hours!) but the manager called me, apologized and gave me 50% off my order, instantly. The only complaint I have is that the food is too salty. I usually order the kimchi fries(delicious!) and kids black beans, tortilla chips and guacamole. This is far too salty, I am scrapping salt off of the chips often. The beans are too salty too. Put less salt and you will be my favorite«go to» restaurant.

If you love spicy food, or food generally, this is my favorite spot in Gowanus. My studio is around the corner and we order from here all the time. I like the ssam tacos and the kimchi bowls, especially made with kimchi fried rice — yum!!! Today their credit card machine wasn’t working and I didn’t have cash so I got lunch for free — a lot classier than what most places would do, just tell you to f off and find somewhere else to eat. I would recommend pickup vs. delivery, which can be a little slow. Plus, duh, don’t eat here if you don’t love kimchi ;) But if you do, go for it!!!

Omg! I love this place. The food is amazing and the people who work there are the best! Matt was so gracious and incredibly friendly. I didn’t know what to get and he gave me the best recommendation. Yum! If you haven’t gone here yet, go! You won’t be sorry. :D

This location is a little bit out of the way but it’s worth the walk(or worth a little sidetrip if you are going to Other Half, Lowe’s or anything else in the area!). When we went in this week, there was only one other customer; it was a weird hour on a weeknight. I have to give kudos to the cashier/server, because generally when a place is empty, you’ll find the sole customer-side employee absentmindedly staring at their phone. She was attentive, helpful and no absent-minded scrolling through Instagram to be seen. The fella got the three taco meal(all delicious as per his contented sighs afterwards), but I’d done that before and wanted to shake things up a little bit. Enter the kimchi bowl. With tofu edamame falafel. I don’t use the words«life-changing» very often(although don’t hold me to that and don’t search my reviews too closely), but this kimchi bowl really was life-changing. It reaffirmed my love of tofu, edamame, and falafel, as well my appreciation for perfectly made kimchi. The bowl was big enough for leftovers for those less gluttonous than myself. I’m debating making my new year’s resolution: eat at Kimchi Grill everyday in 2016. I don’t know if the fella would like that, but I’ll run it by him and see what he says.

Came here for lunch and had the bowl with tofu/edamame falafel, the spicy version. Kimchi was the best part of the dish, honestly. Overall I would say there are too many competing flavors for my tastebuds, it was like an uninvited fireworks display. The pickled carrots and daikon radishes were great and so was the rice, but I didn’t think the falafel complemented the Korean flavors. But I suppose that’s what this place is for — combining different influences. I guess I’m just more into the traditional stuff.

Craving some late night eats and my sister recommends Kimchi Grill. Walked in, stared at the menu as drool made its way down my face, stared some more, then after a fierce internal battle settled on the beef ssam burrito($ 9) and the spicy korean rice gnocchi($ 4.50). The cashier kindly asked me if it was for here or to-go and decided to save myself the embarrassment of eating in public and said I’d like it to-go. I raced home with my order, tore open the bag, marveled at its burrito beauty, and started stuffing my face. The ssam burrito did not disappoint. I like that it’s a rice paper wrapping versus a tortilla(tricks me into thinking I’m being healthy) and the kimchi fried rice is on point. I took a brief second to take a photo, but trust me, that burrito was gone within a few minutes. The gnocchi was good and I realize it’s a play on dukkbokki, but I think I prefer a traditional dukkbokki. The burrito is huge and filling. Definitely go with the ssam burrito though — it’s freakin amazing.

Been here a few times and always get the fish protein. The tacos and the burritos and the rice bowls are all Korean ingredients served like chipotle is. Way better quality and value than Chip’s btw. Fusion, if you will. Quaint seating for up to groups of four or five. Great for a clean eating lifestyle.

This review is based on one trip I made with my brother a few Saturdays ago. We stopped in after a visit to Other Half Brewery which is just down the street. I was very excited to try this place because I have loved every Korean BBQ I’ve ever had. Based on studying the various Unilocal reviews, we knew exactly what to order before we even walked in. We ordered: Seared Spicy Pork Taco Korean BBQ Beef Short Rib Taco Korean Fried Chicken Taco Side of spicy Korean Rice Gnocchi Ok first of all, I take a little bit of the blame for my rating. I typically love spicy food. This was the hottest food I’ve ever had. My lips, tongue, and mouth were scorching this whole meal to the point where I couldn’t even taste what I was eating. I was tearing from my eyes and downing water as if I was just back from the desert. My rating isn’t so much based on the food taste itself, its more of the fact I couldn’t even tell you what this tasted like. Oh wait, it tasted like fire from the gates of hell. Yeah, thats it.

Came here on a Friday night to try other items. Like always Valerie shows great customer service skills and always have a positive attitude and great composure. Atmosphere is always welcoming. Staff is always nice and considerate. Customer service I ordered the kimchi bowl with the kimchi Rice. Let me give you a(warning those who don’t like spicy food do not get the kimchi rice.) it is very spicy. But here is what makes this place extraordinary. I made a complaint that the food was very spicy. Most restaurants based on my personal experiences will say you get what you paid for. But the staff and the workers without hesitation redo the whole dish. Making it less spicy. What a wonder way to treat customers. That is why I love this place. Food: the quality of thr food is amazing. The chicken was very crispy and packs lots of flavor. Not only that. Each bite taste better and better. The rice was also good. Instead of having a Plain jane rice. They added their own flavors to make the rice taste extraordinary. The portions are also huge. Price: the price is also wonderful and not overwhelming expensive. But here is what I suggest getting when visiting the area — Get the Krispy fish taco — get the fresh kimchi bowl(Krispy chicken, Korean BBQ beef short rib) — and Krispy fish bowl. As for the drinks Try the hibiscus and Horchaia But this is the place to go to get your kimchi fix. Lol. Also good for late night. LOL。 Lol. También es bueno para la noche.

Korean gnocchi aka ddukbokki is good: crispy and chewy rice cake with a spicy sauce. Kimchi fries are spicy but lacked cheese. Korean fried chicken, short rib and ssam short rib were all good, grilled chicken not so much. All of the tacos need to be eaten pretty quickly as they get soggy fast due to lots of watery toppings(pickled vegs). Hibiscus agua fresca was delish!

fusion food is just yummy combination! I love bothe spicy asian food and mexican food. The chef successfully combine both special taste, also they added a lot veggie in the meals. If the customers prefer the warm food, they may choose the slider or meal tend to the Korean flavor. If the customer prefer cold and fresh salad as the side, they may choose the maxican food. Although this is Korean-Mexican food, it cover wide range of customer needs. I like this restaurant, we could bring the all our friends in different age and different culture

I really appreciate the friendly and quick service here. The interior was also very clean and spacious. Krispy Fish Taco– The fish was a bit overfried, but the toppings were great and I enjoyed it. It was very small portion however and personally, I feel that it’s overpriced. Korean BBQ Beef Short Rib Burrito– It was too wet from the vegetables. I don’t think the burrito would have lasted as to go order, but since I ate it fresh, it was very enjoyable. Seared Spicy Pork Kimchi Bowl– Was tasty, but I was a little disappointed with the small amount of meat. Overall, it was delicious and I would definitely reorder this again!

I have been hearing quite a rumbling of this place by my friends so I decided to check it out on a Saturday evening. Place was near the Smith-9th street train station on the F/G line. The area is pretty creepy at night but nothing a native new yawker would be intimidated by. The place is on the corner and it’s nice looking. The staff is friendly and the menu pretty much gets to the point. We ordered Spicy Mexican Korean soup. Spicy pork taco, Krispy fish taco and a quesadilla. Spicy soup was pretty dam good though for the life of me I could not help to react to the spice that would stick at the back of my throat. Once I passed that I would go at the soup again! the tacos were pretty tasty. I wish they would deliver to South Slope. Good experience, good food.

Fish tacos were great. Taste of summer. Far better than the beef ones, and the«spicy» pork, which was the worst ones. Tried the bowl with beef, it was a pretty small portion. Slightly more meat than you get in the taco, for the entire bowl. I had it with the kimchi rice, which only lines the bottom of the bowl. They ask you if you want the kimchi rice regular, spicy or hot, I tried spicy and I must say, my mouth was burning when I finished eating that bowl. So watch out. They mean it when they say spicy. Again, the portion was odd. Not here, nor there. Not enough for dinner, but too greasy and caloric for a snack. I doubt I’ll be trying any of the other bowl options. Also tried the basic kimchi to go. It was nice and fresh. Little pricy compared to a store bought kind, but was worth it. They have a few options I’m looking forward to try in the future, but the basic one was great. My order didn’t take long at all, but I walked into the shop, didn’t do delivery. Took them less than 10 mins to get it all set up. They’re super friendly inside. Perhaps a little bored, but that’s ok, clearly customer service is a priority. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu, mainly the burritos and this soup special they have posted separate from the main menu at the moment.

We went to the outpost in Gowanus. The casual small eatery of the famed Kimchi truck. You know it screams hipster when there is vegan and gluten free options. The bright and friendly girl at the counter took our order and they bring it out when done. The spicy Korean ‘gnocchi’ was really just fried rice cakes. The Korean Arancini is fun take on the Italian one. We shared the krispy fish, spicy pork and tofu $ 10 deal. It was a good enough portion for a light lunch to share. I like the battered fish(not too greasy). The pork needed more spice. The Tofu was probably the best of the three. While the name may say Kimchi. I found a lack of Kimchi in any of the dishes to my disappointment. I love Kimchi and missed it.

It is really great that Kimchi Grill took over this dead wasteland of a corner. Restaurant is really cozy with several big picnic size tables with a nice reclaimed wood and steel look… place has a great look and feel for a gourmet taco stand. Staff was super friendly and prepped my to go order really quickly. We tried the Korean BBQ short rib big belly burrito as well as the Seared spicy pork version. Guac is actually a very reasonable $ 1 add on(unlike most places that charge $ 3) so go for it! They offer a variety of spice levels but after guidance from cashier went with extra spicy which was def the right choice… gives a nice kick but not over the top hot. The seared spicy pork burrito was definitely our favorite… really great flavor balance and lots of kimchi to to punch things up a notch. The BBQ short rib was good but hard to compare to the flavor of the pork. The short rib was a bit too sweet for me, but in fairness description tells you it has apple and pear slaw which of course will add sweetness. It was still very good and addition of guac really helped but I prefer the pork. They give you the option of white/multigrain/or kimchi fried rice(+75cents) and black beans or refried beans with infused kimchi. We just went with standard white and black just to give the basic setup a fair shake. Def didn’t need any more flavors with the pork but bet the BBQ would be could with the fried rice. Portion size is what you expect for a burrito proportion wise; however, when you lift these 1 pounders you realize it is a really good value… you won’t leave hungry. As noted in my tip, these are perfect for downing before hitting the Other Half Tap room a block away(or to bring with you). After this positive experience I will have to give their tacos a try. Years ago I had them from their truck in Soho and was not impressed but that was a long time ago. I am really bummed to see they don’t have the Kimchi-cheesesteak they used to have at their truck… it was phenomenal and what really made them stand out from the dozens of other Korean fusion options out there these days. They would make a killing with it here as nothing like that in our hood. So in conclusion I would say a solid 4 – 4.5 for Kimchi Grill burritos. Give them a try!

This place just opened about a week ago and is I believe the second one, the original is in Prospect Heights. I tried the 3 taco special. My favorite was the fish, very crunch fried fish, tender with no bones. Dont laugh I got a fish taco about a month ago from one of those Mexican places run by Chinese folks and I nearly choked to death! The taco had a great mango salsa on top and the sweet and salty mix is my fave. The second best was the fried chicken, also very crispy but moist chicken with kimchi and spicy sauce, it was also pretty good. The third was the Short Rib taco which was short rib meat with pickled onions and creama. It was good but a step below the other too as the meat was a bit dry and gamy. I also got a side of Kimchi(it being the name and all,.) and it was a fiery dish indeed and I only asked for spicy not extra spicy, I imagine the extra spicy just eats through the container. It was very fresh tasting though and spicily addicting even if I know Im gonna pay for this later. Delivery was way faster than the Grub Hub estimate(dont you love when that happens?) Update: After a very good delivery start the delivery has been longer and longer each time. Many times going over an hour and last time girl admitted that he had«a few more in the area» and since food arrived cold I assume they are waiting to get a few orders before sending him out. The food is great but it has gotten put on our back burner or we just place order at like 11am. Sad and deducting a star from original review until they get their act straight.
