Have been passing this place every time I go get lunch at International Paradise Restaurant, so I finally got up the courage to go in. Some initial curious observations about this place. First, there is no menu on the outside, so I had no way of gauging what type of food would be inside. Second, when I went in, nobody was at the counter, and there was once again, no menu in sight. When I stood at the counter, someone who was sitting at one of the tables got up and went behind the counter and asked if she could help me. I asked for a menu and she looked somewhat confused, but went to the back, climbed on top of a chair, and got me something off the top of a cabinet. All of this suggests that this place caters mostly to the locals who must order the same things every time. Which, for me, seems like a plus. And the food was good. Have only tried the curry chicken lunch special but it was delicious and tender, on top of some rice and peas which was soft and had a slightly coconutey flavor. The steamed vegetables that came with it was also really good, and very flavorful. Price-wise pretty decent. 5.00 for a lunch special, which was enough to make me leave satisfied. Other stuff, ranges from 7 – 10 dollars, but the portions are much bigger. Big selection, with everything from jerked chicken to brown stew fish, and an assortment of juices and Jamaican drinks. I am now inspired to try all of their extensive menu. Yum.
