I can’t believe this place is still in business. The BLT is is pretty much just lettuce and maybe some soggy french fries. terrible don’t come here, this should be called no hope and anchor, and the anchor should be used to sink this ship because it needs to be put down.

I feel bad to give them TWO-STARS. The two stars is for the quality of the food, period. Nothing special about the food, my girlfriend ordered the fish taco and I ordered the pastrami sandwich. Both were very dry and nothing special, very ordinary. I said I feel bad giving two stars is because their service was great, on task, always making sure the customers are satisfied.

Decent diner food but always terrible waiters. The bus boy is great though. Never come here in a rush, takes them forever to give you the check even if they are slow.

I really HOPE to go back to this place, because my LOVE has dropped here like ANCHOR!!!(oh did you get my play on words? LoL!) But seriously, this is a great little spot for company with your BFF and and a delicious Sunday brunch. I was visiting my bestie in the east. She had never been here, but suggested it as she heard good things. It did NOT disappoint! She had the poached egg special, and said they were PERFECTLYDONE. I had the strawberry pancake special, and OOO’d and AWWW’d every nummy bite. Service was excellent; very friendly and attentive. The ambiance is nice and casual, and enjoyed the relaxing music as we sliced and diced our way through heaven. Thanks H&A — we’ll definitely be back :-)

This place defiently has a diner feel but more hipster. Ordered French toast. Regular, nothing special but it was good. I also ordered the granola and yogurt. I was excited to order it because I love granola and yogurt, but sadly I did not like this one. It was too tart. Mimosa was good. Had a perfect balance of orange juice and Champaign. Service was good. Our server was really nice and friendly.

Cute place, nice normal American menu. Open fairly late. Good wings! Good cheesesteak! Has a full bar. Funny karaōke nites, if ur into that. One thing, the grilled cheese I ordered wasn’t really traditional… It was more like a cheese sandwich on toast, rather than the buttery grilled-ness of a regular grilled cheese.

I eat here about once a week. The staff is amazing and the food is always great. Hope and Anchor is just another example of Red Hook restaurants getting the idea of food and community right!

No, its not called poke and anchor like I kept calling it(where’s my brain sometimes?) I’d describe this place as a seaside diner(as others have) but more specifically as a Russian seaside diner This could be because a.) There’s a lot of red in here b.) We were talking about the Russian community in Brooklyn or c.) I just get an idea in my head sometimes. So its really pretty unpretentious, reasonably priced(most sandwiches with fries were around $ 8) and they serve a big breakfast menu all day(lots of hash options if that’s your thing.) I had a veggie wrap(could of swore it was suppsed to have avocado in it but whatevs) with fries which was good, but let me tell you four words you gotta remember-mac and cheese balls! Served with a side of creamy horseradish sauce I felt like a glutton eating these but they were delicious! They also have vegetarian options and a lot of burgers. They have a full bar, do karaōke certain nights of the week, and are super quick with food. Its on the way to the IKEA and makes a nice stop.

Hope & Anchor perches on Van Brunt between the super-cool Fort Defiance and the slightly more blue-collar feel of the Brooklyn Ice House and Red Hook Bait and Tackle. With the look and feel(and prices) of a time long gone, and a mixed clientele of Brooklyn Über Cool and locals out for a pint, it’s that place that’s trying to please all the people, most of the time. Whether it’s jazz night, or karaōke night, something is usually going on. The beer is good, the cocktails are terrible, and the food is passable(although notably more careless in the last year or so). You really can’t visit Red Hook without paying it a visit, but Fort Defiance has better food and cocktails, Brooklyn Ice House is a better meeting place, and the new Hometown Bar-B-Que is better for families or a sit down evening. Worth a visit, but not at the expense of the other places.

Red Hook has its own particular vibe, as many other neighborhoods within the city, and I do believe Hope and Anchor is a clear example of what makes it peculiar. As I entered its door and the red velvet curtains I felt like arriving in an old and classic bar by an harbor, in which you take recover when outside a cold wind is blowing or rain is coming down. Today was not that cold, and wan not even raining but the warm and welcoming treatment made me feel good. I was starving, and like happens to me in this situation I would have ordered everything on the menu. That’s why it took me a while to decide wheter to have a burger or a sandwich, also because of the many interesting options. The woman that was serving the tables(I believe she’s the owner) has been nice, with her genuine smile, positive attitude and a way of speaking very, very fast; finally I went for a bacon, lettuce, tomato and avocado sandwich, on brioche bun, with their famous fries, as stated on the list. The sandwich: good, with a light taste of lemon and a perfect brioche bun, that I think was a little sweet and not salted, but I’m not 100% sure. The fries: surprisingly good, crunchy and tasty. It’s a pleasure to find a place like Hope and Anchor in beautiful Red Hook. I will definitely be back to try their other sandwiches and burgers that looked very good. And one of the pies … #Red#Hook#mood##

Cute little place with pretty good food. The bar staff was attentive and friendly and they have a great selection of beer, wine and cocktails. I was a bit disappointed with the fried pickles, as the pickles were thin and not thick, but none-the-less, they were still delicious. The fish tacos were huge and had a spicy kick to them. Great place to stop for a bite if in the area.

Popped in for a small bite on a late Sunday afternoon because brunch elsewhere wasn’t sufficient enough for our appetites. It’s hard not to notice the décor with its colorful walls that pop and funky macro photographs of action figures. It almost looked like an old timey diner repainted to look like a child’s playhouse. I’m not sure if that’s the best way to describe it but there you go. My friend and I ordered the mac and cheese fritters and potato skins. Everything on the menu screamed classic American diner food with maybe a few contemporary updates here and there. After receiving our appetizers and eyeing everyone else’s entrees, it’s clear you get huge portions here so you don’t have to worry about leaving hungry. The potato skins were good and pretty much what I was expecting: cheesy and bacony. The mac and cheese fritters were unfortunately bland and required some extra cheese from the potato skins to taste worthwhile. Overall, staff was very friendly but food didn’t leave much of an impression. An ok experience.

I went to Hope and Anchor last Saturday, after a last minute change in plans. Well, I was expecting my B.L.T. & A to be served on Brioche as the menu suggested, what I got instead was a pile of Arugula, bits of Bacon and Tomatoes on regular white toasted bread, with Lemon Mayo and diced Avocados. I want to say that there was an emphasis on the Arugula to the point that the entire«wich» as they call it, tasted of bitter Arugula. Don’t get me wrong, I love Arugula otherwise I would’ve taken pass. there was a good dose of the Lemon Mayo, but not enough to minimize the bitterness. Thank God for the Avocado though, that helped soften the flavor somewhat. For filling like this, a Brioche would’ve been the winning bread to hold it all together, and not the moist toast, so of course, *my plate* ended up with a good portion of the ingredients. As for the fries, I asked for them to be crispy, who wants soggy fries right? Well, the fries were less than appetizing, they tasted as though they went from the freezer, into the oil and back out in a minute. The insides of the fries tasted like powder. On the bright side, the coffee was great and my friend both enjoyed and raved about her Root Vegetable Hash, so there’s that. My favorite part of this visit was the waiter! Couldn’t have asked for a better waiter so, they’ve got the staff down. I plan on re-visiting and I hope that this time the ingredients are proportionate and that I actually get crispy fries and the Brioche that I had expected. The crowd are a bunch of transplanted neighborhood nellies, with the self importance of snot-nosed children, which I could care less for! If the meal is right, I’ll always come back for more. If you’re looking for a down-home, authentic New York diner, where you feel at home and fit in because folks from all walks of life patronize the place, this place is not for you. It’s definitely a neighborhood joint. As for the food, I’ll update my review when I go back next weekend!

You should get the Hook Line and Sinker, it’s ridiculous and the best value ever for $ 25. Grilled Cheese for buns; 1 lb of beef; 2 layers of bacon; multiple layers of sausage; 1 leaf of lettuce; a few slices of tomato; and some egg somewhere in there. If gluttony isn’t your thing, their other burgers are pretty good too and the Cheese Fries are some of my favorite around. The gravy comes on the side, and the fries were so good, we completely forgot the gravy was even there.
