I give the stars because for it is, its good. I should prob give 4 but its just not a 4 star place. Its a quick lunch spot, burn and turn order at the cashier, sit down eat, back to work. I usually do half a wrap and soup. The soups are DELICIOUS. Large variety with healthy options. My fav is the curry cauliflower. You can get half wrap/sandwich. Keep in mind everything pre made so no special request. Its quick and tasty. What really drove me to write this review is management. They are on point. I come lunch so its very crowded and mngmt makes there position known. There either on the floor cleaning/restocking or behind the counter helping the staff serve the food. They even find time to ask the guest if there enjoying everything. And on top of that they still make sure stafd is restocking as the lunch rush turns and burns. Kudos to management, they turn this place from a 3 – 4 star !

The DMV of lunchtime foods. Long lines, uncomfortable environment, bad and/or slow service.

It wasn’t busy. The branch at 7th ave and 29th street had friendly competent staff and lots of seating. It was significantly better than the disastrous Hale & Hearty in the financial district.

I had two wisdom teeth pulled and Hale & Hearty became my best friend for a week. That was literally all I ate. So i’ve pretty much sampled every soup on the menu. By far my favorite is the creamy tomato soup with orzo and chicken. It’s really good. This location though is really lacking, you can tell that the staff here would rather be anywhere else, but scooping soup into bowls.

Fresh ingredients, check. Variety of great tasting soups plus a few specials each day, check. Overpriced but decent sandwiches, check. Most things considered this is a respectable lunch option(though don’t dream of trying to eat here: too cramped and noisy for that!). So what is up with the salad makers? I can’t quite pinpoint whether they applied for their position with«nasty attitude» on the skills set section of their resumes or whether they just get a directive from Management to be as unpleasant and hostile as possible to customers, but they have the unique gift of making the simple act of placing an order for salad so unwelcome that I LITERALLY make my daily lunch choices based on the answer to the question«am I in the mood for a negative attitude today»? And I have seen that look of dread on other customers’ faces as well. Forewarned is forearmed.

The people working here are so miserable it makes the DMV seem like Disneyland. They are rude and inattentive and make you feel as if you are putting them out just to do their job. The food here is a C+ at best. I would looooove to see a Sweet Green open in Brooklyn Heights. I’d happily pay an extra couple of bucks for a salad made of fresh, delicious, local ingredients whipped together by a pleasant staff who are happy to be there and take pride in their work.

Great the first two to three times, but the fact that I just paid $ 12.23 for a whole sandwich and a small soup is awful. This lunch spot has got to go.

Stopped for a quick lunch and all 3 of the staff members were to busy checking their phone, itching their hair or talking among themselves. Anyways after getting one of the staff members attention she came towards the counter with a «I don’t wanna be here«attitude I ordered two soups she gave me the options of choosing cracker or the other two option witch I did not here since she talked so low and fast. In the end I went with the crackers since I could not here my other two options. Employee number two: salad, as she approached the counter after making sure she checked her messages, Facebook on her phone she was ready to help me … After also itching her hair with the hand she was gonna make my salad with! Employee number 3: payment after calculating that she needs to return 1,25 cents on her phone to the costumer before me it’s now my turn she swipes my card 5 times before putting in my info manually. I asked for the receipt back and yes she gave it to me but I stopped and asked did I get a receipt and she looked at me with a look that said just get out of here and said«YES I GAVEYOUANRECEIPT» as I said oh yeah thank you and walked out. As it was for the food the soups where Great but there was hair in my salad :(

Love that they have calorie content for all their soups and sandwiches. So much variety and they switch things up every so often. This location gets pretty jam packed around noon but I was just there(around 11) And the store was nearly empty. Great customer service, clean and tidy store, lots of ways to get discounts for local people. Love it! The only drawback is that parking is kind of a nightmare unless you come in the evening however they close pretty early.

I recently discovered this gem. The salads, soups and sandwiches are all good. Can be a bit pricy when adding items to your salad and depending on the soup you order(especially if you are getting a combo of two items). I love that you can taste the soup before making a purchase

The food is fine, commensurate with what is served at other H&H locations throughout the city. The service however, is AWFUL. The majority of the staff is poorly trained and managed.

If you enjoy paying Manhattan prices(that’s what the cashier said) for soup in Brooklyn, then Hale and Hearty is your place. This spot can’t be beat for variety. The selections are seemingly endless. You can get a freshly prepared salad here as well. Again, soups at Hale and Hearty are good NOT great… certainly not over $ 9 dollars for a Ramen cup size, great. My favorite is the shrimp and corn chowder. If you don’t have money left over to buy a drink it’s cool because there are pitchers of ice water with sliced lemons floating in it at the front and it’s free.

I have been to this hale and hearty many times and every time I leave annoyed, not because the food is bad but because most of the staff has an attitude. When I place my order they act like I am inconveniencing them. I went there to get lunch today and stood by the sandwich counter for 5 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my existence so I could order. Then a male customer came up to the sandwiches and a man who had walked past me 3 times jumped to help him, and he was already being helped. To really top off the whole experience while I was waiting for an employee to help me I was watching the delivery guy pick his nose, we’re talking one knuckle deep, and flick whatever it was that he picked on the floor. When I told the employee who eventually helped me about the nose picking he gave me an empty apology and the always expected attitude from hale and hearty employee because I did not laugh at a joke he made.

Meh. This place is alright. I was told to try this place out by coworkers today because it was raining and it’s right across the street and because I was slightly peer pressured to. Whatever, tried it I did. I’m not going to break down how Hale and Hearty works but it offers you a multitude of choices between salad, sandwiches, wraps, and soups. I was aghast as to how many choices they did have but settled on the balsamic chicken and avocado sandwich and a small roasted corn and shrimp soup, which came out to be about 12 bucks and change. The food I received was alright, fairly mediocre. Seriously, nothing special and there are plenty other places in the area like Side Street . Hale and Hearty is close and it is quick, but they do charge quite a bit for a little and they don’t offer a lot in return. If you like chain mediocre food then check this place out. There are much better options in the area.

The soups are good, they have a nice selections of classics(Chicken Noodle) and newer flavors(Morrocan Chicken). You get a choice of bread or crackers or you can do the half a sandwich. The prices are a little higher as others have stated but I think it’s worth it. I actually spend the last 31 of my 32 years of life despising soup and for some reason I’ve changed my palate. This place is definitely a nice way to enter into the world of soup. For a once in a while treat or something to warm you in the warm Winter weather this is a great place.

In terms of food, H&H gets 4 stars. But there are some serious logistical issues that unnecessarily prolong every trip here I’ve ever taken. The soups are uniformly delicious – rich, hearty, and satisfying, though it would be nice to have calorie counts on all of them, not just the ones on the regular menu. The salads are also great, though the prices for add-ins are a little steep. The store needs a different layout so that people know where to go to order soups and salads, and then a cashier station that can handle the lunchtime rush. Maybe hire a couple of cashiers who just work the register rather than having every employee make your salad/soup and THEN ring you up? Before walking in, I have to psych myself up to be patient and not try to kill everyone ordering 15 items in their salad with my mind. That seems to be a problem that is not entirely explained by my need for anger management classes.

I really wish this place was open on the weekends. The line is always long around lunch, but it’s the best soup/sandwich/salad place in the area. The prices are kind of high.

I’m sure H&H beats out McDonald’s on the totem pole of chain restaurants, but a big thumbs down goes to their extremely high prices. Which I guess is no big freaking deal if you’re only buying it every once in awhile as a break from leftovers but I don’t know how sustainable it is if you’re thinking about getting their soups every day. Soups — the lowest chicken noodle soup goes for $ 3.39. And their small is maybe four or five big bites, tops. Sucks because most of their soups are amazing, like their potato and four cheese one or even basic chicken noodle, but the prices are pretty much thievery. It’d be one thing if they had to grow their soup ingredients from Malaysia and ship it all the way to Brooklyn, but I have absolutely no idea why a small soup that could sit in the palm of my hand should be that expensive. Here’s an idea: if you’re buying a salad or sandwich, it’s only $ 2 or one dollar less than if you just bought the soup by itself. Next time your friend is feeling more like salad/sandwich, just ask her to get the soup as well and save that dollar for your next Metrocard. Salads — The four free ingredients are carrots, croutons, red onions, … and darn it, something else that begins with a C. Be careful of the prices, because all the other ingredients start adding it up and before you know it, you’re paying upwards of $ 10 for a small salad with some pretty basic ingredients. Sandwiches — who knows? Maybe I’ll try them five weeks from now.

I love Hale and Hearty’s soup, but I never really know how to review a Hale and Hearty location. I mean, of course they have a great selection of soups… but that’s not a locational thing. That’s a chain thing. Every small cup of chicken pot pie from one location tastes just as delicious as a small cup of chicken pot pie from another. Similarly, I’m sure that my cup of cream of chicken with rice would have been just as great if it had come from another place in the city. So I guess I have to rate on service. Service here was ok, and only ok. My friend and I made a line next to the soups. My friend was served. He paid while I remained in the«line» by myself. At the same time he finished paying, someone came in for a salad. She begin serving the salad woman. I was all like«um what excuse me?» I was clearly waiting to be served. I don’t like that.
