Albert’s a real character, and having kept away from barbers for years, I’m glad he’s the one I chose to start going to. You can’t beat his prices, his charm, or his skill with scissors: He’s open to conversation, and don’t be afraid to tell him what you want!

I love this place! Old school, laid-back, no frills salon/barbershop with lots of space and light. I’ve had both Alberto and Dilena cut my hair and they gave me exactly what I wanted– long, blunt-cut bangs, a light trim and angles around the face. The prices are low enough that you can stop in whenever you need a trim. You can walk in and not have to wait, or not have to wait very long. The people are friendly without being overly talkative, which is how I like it. This is a real, old Brooklyn neighborhood shop that we are lucky to still have.

Although most of the customers here might not know what Unilocal is, Hair Fair is a terrific place in the neighborhood. I have been passing by it for quite some time, noticing the vintage sign, but never thinking of going in. I’m so glad my sudden itch for bangs a few months ago brought me to this Green-Wood/South Slope treasure. Today I found out more about this unassuming spot: 40 years ago, When Alberto was new to America from Italy, he set up shop in the neighborhood and has been cutting hair here ever since. His loyal patrons have been coming in for decades. The décor is outdated, but in a 1970s, homey sort of way. My favorite touch were the small yellow paintings of hairdresser equipment — completely homemade and heartwarming. This is my second trip to Hair Fair because I was so happy with my results last time I knew I’d return. Today, Alberto was kind, friendly and gave me a great looking cut for a great price. Total? I got a wash, cut and blow dry for $ 25. Can’t beat it.
