I experienced the best shows here with good friends at ridiculous prices, and am sad now that the venue is gone from my list. Miss you Glasslands, RIP.

Intimate. Hot and Sweaty. Ending too soon. No, I’m not talking about bedroom activities… I’m talking about the Glasslands Gallery. Easily my favorite venue in the NY metro area. Ticket prices are a steal. $ 10 vs $ 30-$ 40 that you would pay to see the same artist in Manhattan. Not only that, but since the venue isn’t an enormous concert hall, it’s a much more intimate feel(I got a fist pound from TOKiMONSTA at the end of her set). Drinks are pretty reasonably priced too, and they’re not super watered down. The bartenders there were always great with service, despite the rowdy folks trying to get drinks. The crowd is largely dependent on who’s playing, but I’ve never had a problem finding good conversation on the line outside or between shows. The interior is really cool. The first time I went there a few years back when they still had the clouds décor, and a church pew underneath a balcony which is made out of scrap metal, like bicycle parts and crutches and steel pipe. Now the interior is this cool lighting setup with tubes filled with LEDs that glow and pulse(the seating under the balcony is gone as well). Oh, and there’s a giant teddy bear head mounted on the wall the way you’d see a deer head taxidermy mount. Only thing that I could perceive as a negative is it’s a bit of a walk from the Bedford Ave station, but it’s well worth the walk. It does get hot, but I mean, come on, what do you expect? That’s like writing a Unilocal review about the beach and complaining that there’s too much sand; it’s just something that comes with the territory and is part of the experience. Anyway it’s winter now, so it shouldn’t be a problem(it wasn’t when I was there last week for Computer Magic). However, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and unfortunately, no exception is being made for the Glasslands, which is suffering a similar fate as fellow underground venues like Death by Audio and 285 Kent. It’ll only be around for two more weeks, so see a show over there while you can. R.I.P Glasslands, you will be missed.

Tried going twice… Both times I had a teribble experience. Bartenders there do not know how to make drinks and charge you an above average pricing for a place like these. Noticed they ignore you and take care of the people they know first even though you’ve been standing there for about 15 minutes! Prices on my same drinks were different pricing each time??? Coat check, bathroom, bouncers were all an issue. I really don’t want to get into a long list of issues, getting a headache just thinking about it. The biggest problem I want to state, a huge lability I witnessed both times I was there. Before the place even let everyone in, I saw 6 people IN A ROW slip and glide down the steep unsafe stairs by the coat check. Even if people had some alcohol in them, this is an extreme case. I’m surprised they haven’t been sued or shut down just for this. The performance stage that night was the only thing I liked. The aura of the people and the place is extremely negative. Everybody wanted to fight, full of very not so classy people. The thing is, there are so many places like these in Brooklyn. My mama raised no fool, I will not be returning here or supporting this location. I had such hopes for this place, so disappointing…

Glasslands is HANDSDOWN one of my favorite Brooklyn venues. Despite its out of the way(South Williamsburg?) and remote location(lots of warehouses), it’s really one of the best places to see live music. Its intimate. The drinks are cheap. The stage area is very cool looking(those lights above the stage make for some dramatic performance photos). I love this place and the was devastated to learn that it’s closing. I’ve been to a few shows there and want to try and squeeze in another before it shutters for good.

This is an intimate venue with reasonably priced drinks and a fun vibe. I don’t go there unless I specifically am there to see something, but I always look forward to going. Depending on what’s on the crowd can be a little annoying and pushy. Because it’s small it gets crowded, with no safe havens. This kind of adds to the vibe though. Over all a good spot.

First time visiting was last night — easy peasy street parking after 6pm, didn’t have to wait on a long line, small or intimate(take your pick) very dark concert space with second floor/balcony overlooking the stage, cool icicle lights, good acts(at least the night I was here — I came for cmj artists) although it did take a while between sets and the last girl who performed while we were there was totally bringing the vibe down with sleepy music, the price was right(free on a guest list), and I had good company … so all in all it was a good night. I found no issue with the place but my friend did have his beer stolen and as someone else mentioned the banister upstairs was loosey goosey(didn’t seem all that safe). There was talk amongst our group that someone heard it through the grapevine this place will be closing soon. Wouldn’t surprise me because everything doesn’t really seem all that up to code but there was definitely a decent sized crowd while we were here and when we were leaving(around 10pm) more people were lined up outside to go in. who knows…

Last night was my first time at Grasslands and I had a great experience. The atmosphere is very chill and laid back but of course every experience is going to be different depending the people there that night/artist. I went to go see Sango last night and it’s not as packed as I would’ve imagined, given that tickets were sold out before 10pm. I’d definitely recommend this venue over others such as Pacha or Webster Hall.

Every time I’ve been to Glasslands, it’s been a blast but the Monday night bouncer sucks! I hesitated to write this review because it’s awesome inside. I went to Glasslands several times over the summer, danced to some great music and hung out. But on two consecutive Mondays I tried to go with 3 friends and was not allowed in even though I was orderly, sober, and there to hear the music(after travelling to New York from Detroit just to see the band Braids at Glasslands, which I knew would be an awesome show.) Worse, the bouncer refused to accept any of my friends ID after turning me down. I would love to go to Glasslands again by myself but will not risk bringing a group of friends who could be arbitrarily turned away. The Tequila Mockingbird is tasty, the bartenders are generous, and the beer is cheap. Go here often but not on the weekdays.

Glasslands Gallery is a small venue on Kent St that is a pretty intimate place to see bands, DJ’s and artists. I found the layout to be a little weird… with the stage in the corner, a giant pole in the middle of the floor, the sound booth taking up about ¼ of the floor space against the wall where the stage is. The second floor balcony is a little low and hangs over about half of the floor space, making it tough to see the stage if you are way underneath it. Perhaps the weirdest thing about the layout here is the steps surrounding the bar. I guess it helps the people in front of the bar line from having 2nd-row people reach over for drinks, but the setup kind-of feels like we are ascending a temple to worship the alcohol gods while waiting for drinks. The lighting here was great. Hundreds of short, homemade lighting pipes(pvc?) hung from the ceiling, each with a different color led bulb system in it. It looked professional, but was obviously done on a budget. Drinks were average prices. with $ 5-$ 8 beers

Commenting on the drinking situation only here as the way your night goes here of course depends on the music situation(the only thing I’ll say about that is that they have a great sound system here and the space is interesting). But onto the drinks… WOW talk about depressing. They have some hard alcohol but absolutely nothing exciting or inspired whatsoever. Beers were lame as well. Bartender looked absolutely bored out of his mind. And I really think if it’s early and the place is DEAD inside, they shouldn’t be charging a cover yet. Who wants to pay a $ 15 cover when there’s like 5 people inside? Offer free entry for showing up early so you build up the crowd early on in the night and make it inviting to those who show up later, justifying the cover because they see the place is busy. Just sayin’.

M and I are too old for this sort of place — came here for Elliphant performance and it just turned out not as I imagined. Bass was too much and you couldn’t hear anything or understand any of the words. Bathroom — hellos? Where are the lights? Thank god I didn’t use it after all the people, because I am sure it was pretty disgusting in there. The banister upstairs, I am sure this is some sort of safety hazzard — I don’t think it is sturdy enough for a couple of drunkards to lean and hang around it like they wouldn’t fall right into their death.

Came to see Oneohtrix Point Never here during Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival. This place really draws some interesting musicians. I was completely blown away by the sound system. Clean highs with insanely deep and punchy lows. The bathroom is a piece of crap, but you come here for that vibe. Came back later to see Anamanaguchi. It was even more fun. Can’t wait ’til next time.

Although I do not remember too much because of intoxication I had a great time there. It was super easy to get inside and the drinks were really cheap. The only — is that you have to go to Brooklyn(and the cab situations just sucks!).

This is a much smaller space than I expected, and quite a trek from the G train. As you walk in you go past the bar and then to the stage. Behind the bar are three TINY unisex bathrooms. There are also stairs that lead to a small balcony with some seats and a couch. The bar is, oddly a bit elevated so you have to ‘step up’ a little risky for a klutz like me, especially when drinking is involved. It’s definitely a cool spot to catch a band who isn’t too big yet to get a close up experience.

Fun joint for a concert. I’ve been to quite a few venues, and sincerely enjoyed this one. Eclectic and artfully crafted décor, hipster friendly, fast bar service, and good music to boot. I dig it.

Fun little venue for an indie show. Very casual, with nice bartenders, acceptable booze selection/prices, unisex bathrooms, interesting stage décor and great sound guys. My only complaint was the lighting for the show I was at. Nothing like a green wash over everything to ruin your photos. Sure, it’s a bit out of the way, but if you time it right you can walk by the Kent Ave waterfront and watch the sunset before your show. It’ll instantly make your day better.

The guys at the door were being huge dicks on Saturday night. They told me there was no guest list and wouldn’t let me in. Once I got past them, the girl with the clipboard told me yes, in fact I was on the list. So yeah… not cool. I’m glad I pushed my way through. The bar is really small and it took a while to get a drink. There should be twice as many bathroom stalls and the line was always long. We had a blast dancing upstairs and there was almost zero security once you got inside. I liked the weird fluffy backdrop. I’d go back but if you’re on the guest list, go early and be persistent!
