Essen NY Deli

I was in the neighborhood yesterday and needed a small but good lunch. I was able to order off the children’s menu with a bariatric meal card.
The service was fast and amazing.

Good food but small portions for expensive prices. Friendly staff. For the money I’d rather cook my pastrami at home

Very good Kosher deli in Borough Park. it seems a bit hectic, however that goes with the territory, after all you are in Brookyn.
I like their authenticity and the Pastrami, Knish, Kasha Varniskes, Soup were excellent. would definitely go back!!!

I’ve been to this place several times and have been disappointed each time. The atmosphere is stuffy and the clientele is unfriendly. Not to mention in August they don’t have any air conditioning but can price a sandwich at $ 17. Seems like they should care a little more but they just don’t.

I love that I was greeted the moment I walked through the door. The gentleman that took my order was extremely polite and helpful. When I asked about an item (cows tongue) I was unsure of he not only explained it but offered me a sample. The sandwich was made in a matter of seconds and it was not just delicious but fresh. I will definitely be coming back if I’m in the neighborhood again.

Chicken-​fried steak and a grand coney knish. End of story. Delicious.

My favorite kosher deli I ever experienced. Never ordered anything I regretted. Chicken poppers, and tounge pastrami sandwich were a hit! Love their matzoh ball soup!

I live in manhatten and have had some of the deli institutions (katz and mr broadway). The health salad was grade A and the garlic pickles were out of this world. The mexican turkey had an actual flavor to it and the corned beef is up there with the best in NYC. but they up the ante with honey corned beef. Its as delicious as it sounds. Gotta have it! The service was spectacular. If you want a great NYC deli experience come to essen.

Great place with a large menu. Everyone will find something to eat here. Try the Chinese food here, it’s really delicious.

Good food. Hits the spot when your are hungry. Great portions. I especially like the brisket. Real delicious kosher deli stuff.

Friendly staff that are helpful. Food is outstanding. This place is one of the few left that remind us what Brooklyn really should be like! Love them and will return again and again!

We had lunch there today. The hot corn beef sandwich was really amazing. Exactly what I was expecting but even better.
We were seated immediately and received prompt service.

When the old fellow at the table behind me asked whether the vegetable soup had vegetables, I knew I was in a classic Jewish deli. No one can complain like old Jews — they take it to an art form, much like the deli itself. Essen fits neatly into this category with its steamed corned beef, matzo ball soup and stuffed derma with gravy, which is out of this world.

Pastrami is totally wrong. They have no idea what is flying with the deli cutter. Sliced with the grain so you’re left breaking your teeth hacking trough these long stands of flavorless meat. For sixteen greenbacks you’re better off going anywhere else.

Take out: Once a month or so I have a lunch date at a friend’s house. We’re both moms and we don’t get out much so we try to meet up to chat and talk to someone who will actually converse back with us. We had ordered from a few delis in the past but we’ve hit the jackpot with Essen! Their sandwiches are generous, pickles delicious and we love their authentic Jewish recipes. Knish anyone?
Dine in: I ran in here for a quick stop in the middle of shopping. Sit down service was fast and my turkey sandwich hit the spot. The prices are totally reasonable for Kosher deli and I know I will be coming back.

After you go eat there you will see for yourself what I’m saying is nothing but the truth.
The service is bad. Food is bad. Place is filthy, there service sucks. They advertise curbside delivery that’s a lie. There is nothing good about the place.
Sometimes it looks bz because they have some BS special and allot of seating space.
I would rather starve then go eat there. I wouldn’t send my worse enemy there.

They are making good and generous sandwiches, and the people there are nice. But their prices are way 2 high for a Deli.
I had a pastrami sandwich, that was a good sandwich, but the price was way 2 much. If i knew the price before i ordered, i would of never take it.

Kosher delis in Brooklyn are few and far between. Essen deli is the only authentic glatt kosher deli in Brooklyn, making it a favorite among those Orthodox Jews who only eat glatt. I’ve taken food home, and have eaten in-​house and cannot recall any complaints about my experience.
Their stuffed capon was one of the more memorable offerings. The stuffing added flavor and moisture to the bird, and it was served with a sweet, duck-​style sauce.
Thursday night all you can eat chulent is another favorite time of mine to eat here; I prefer my chulent with a sweeter, more saucy note, but Essen’s chulent fits the bill. The buffet is reasonably priced, and the chulent is accompanied by Meal Mart kishka (ubiquitous in all Jewish delis as the preferred kishka) and kugel. When I cannot make Ramath Orah or any other fancy Shabbos kiddush, I’ll come to Essen instead, which fulfills the need.
The Essen sandwich is my preferred deli sandwich of choice when I dine in; I prefer it accompanied by a Dr. Brown’s cream soda and either the potted meatballs or tongue polonaise (which is a personal favorite of mine). My preferred meats of choice are the Romanian pastrami, tongue and honey beef, which despite it sounding like an odd combination, balances out nicely between the peppery pastrami and glazed beef.
The owners have said that their intention is to keep the deli alive in Brooklyn. While nothing can compare to the old Bernstein’s (a“h), Essen does a great job at keeping this Ashkenazic cultural remnant alive for the mehadrin sector.
