Custom House

My go to after-​work bar. I generally deal with the same two or three employees all who have been nothing but gracious and fun. I have not a single negative thing to say.
Fair prices, good food, good drink selection, and excellent service. Id suggest to anyone in the area looking for a late night bar.

I picked up a burger for lunch. Service was efficient and friendly. Fries were frozen not fresh and mediocre, burger was good and cooked correctly. I probably will not return.

This place has awesome food but if jimmy isn’t working don’t bother coming because the other waiters are so rude and don’t know what they’re doing.
The Brooklyn Burger will be one of the best burgers you ever have. Do yourself a favor and get it medium rare. Thank me when you’re done.

Recently moved to the hood & this place popped up on Seamless. I called to confirm there was no garlic in the grilled chicken, spoke with a really nice guy on the phone, he assured me I was good to order the cobb salad and my boyfriend got the cajun chicken sandwich. The food was tatsy + our fries arrived steaming hot! Happy to find Custom House in our new hood.

Although Custom House is only a few blocks from our apartment, we’ve never been inside — except when it used to be an Italian place called La Traviata. So I can’t speak to the in-​house service or the bar environment. But for delivery orders, they excel in a way that many places fail. The food is solid, always cooked perfectly and always packed well (the missing link for many places that deliver). We’ve got no shortage of good burgers in the neighborhood, but theirs is really quite good. Love the spinach dip, can’t go wrong with the grilled salmon and the salads are fresh. Delivery has always been fast and our orders have always been accurate. It’s become a staple in our Seamless order rotation over the last few months. Keep up the good work!

Just got back from an awful interaction with one of the worst bartenders that pretended to parade around the bar. No-​one likes a person pretending to be Tom Cruise singing behind the bar as they pour a drink. And much worse when he got aggressive with me when I asked for more gravy for my bangers and mash, which I asked for ahead of time.
Spoke with management, and they were totally unapologetic. Get it together Custom House dickhead Irish bar-​tenders don’t help your business model. Bozo the clown bartender, bald Irish guy, awful…

Small gem in brooklyn.
I came here on break one day and they are pretty quick. I was able to get in there, order, eat, and have conversation in less than an hour including my walk there.
I ordered their cheeseburger and it was AMAZING! One of the juiciest burgers Ive had. It was cooked perfectly and I had no complaints. Also, their fries are very good as well. I enjoyed my feel to the fullest extent.
The waitress was also extremely friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend and come back here often. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because their menu isn’t very long and for picky eaters it might be hard to find any beside burgers.

Sexist, homophobic, and rude bartender. I decided not to go there again after I saw him making disgusting comments to two young women who were showing each other affection.

Rude management — I can’t comment on the food or drinks here so this is basically just a whine fest. But I think service and overall atmosphere is generated by staff and this experience turned me off. Minor incident. Read on if your interested.
I was considering whether to eat here and went in to use the rest room. The manager stopped me so I asked politely if that would be ok and he pointed to the door and said ‘for customers only’ shaking his head as if I had committed a crime. He could have asked if I was planning to have anything or said anything else, but he assumed I wasn’t a customer and it felt to me like I was getting the boot. I’m familiar with this ‘rule’ and normally would always observe it but a. this is a sports bar b. there are easy and polite ways to act in customer service (I have plenty of experience in it for restaurant and other industries) and this guy failed at it.

This place was great! The food was delicious and so quick and the drinks were well made too. Not to mention the service was very good. We had a burger with fries, a salmon burger with a salad and wings to start. For drinks I had a martini with vodka extra blue stuffed olives and my fiancé had a blue moon. Everything was wonderful we were very surprised it wasn’t busier. It made us have faith in bar food again! Everything is priced right (don’t expect dollar menu cheeseburgers and complain when it costs 12 dollars) because the food is clearly fresh and not cheaply made. I’d come here any day if I lived in the area.

It’s a bar. Decent food. Semi pricey drinks. Big TVs.
The only thing that stood out was our waitress didn’t seem super interested in taking care of us. We literally had to go up to her 3 times (to tell her we wanted to order, to ask for the check, and for her to run our card). We were certainly very patient and never made a fuss. But every time we went up, she was scrolling through instagram. Sad.

I only came with a friend for drinks; the mango lemonade cocktail was really good and its great to just sit outside, quiet enough to have an intimate conversation and good food/​drinks

I came here with some friends. We sat outside on a very nice day. I ordered a Cobb salad and my friends had a sandwich and macaroni and cheese. They liked the food and my salad was good. The service was very good as well. I really liked that they did not rush us out after eating. We stayed at the table and ordered rounds of drinks but they did not pressure us in any way. Overall, would return and sit outside on a nice day.

Stopped in for an after-​dinner drink. The Christmas decorations were fantastic in an otherwise classically beautiful pub ambiance. They had a fair range of beers as well as some wines. Service was friendly and enjoyable. Lovely place to spend an evening.

Came here with two girlfriends after a night of square dancing. They had worked up an appetite and wanted food at almost midnight. We stopped in at a cute wine bar and was told the kitchen was closed but the custom house would be open for another hour serving food.
We walked a few blocks over and indeed, the custom house was open. There was a large party in the front of the restaurant chowing down on food. We snagged the couch right by the entrance in front of the non working fireplace (which seems to have a gas fire that wasn’t lit) and my friends perused the food while I scoped out the place.
In the back, there were tons of people drinking, eating and perhaps glancing at the game on the few tv screens placed throughout the space. One of the first things I noticed was the incredibly high ceilings, birdcage lamps and exposed brick. The interior /​ambiance is pretty nice at this spot.
It took a while for the server who handed my friends their menus to come back. In fact, one of my girlfriends had to get up to go find him to place her order. One of them got the french onion soup and the other got the burger with fries and a beer.
They both polished off their meals so I would assume it was decent enough. At least it did the job in an area where late night food doesn’t seem to be a thing. The area of course is quiet, safe and again — not a lot of noisy bars since this a residential /​family oriented neighborhood… although there were a few obnoxious drunks staggering out of the custom house while we were there.

Custom House is a lovely neighborhood bar and restaurant on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights.
I only went here to drink with friends after a sumptuous dinner in a nearby restaurant.
There were few diners and people at the bar when we came in. The place is considerably quiet. The over all ambiance is cozy, especially the leather couch by the fire place in front of the entrance door.
The sports fanatics sits at the bar since they are showing live sports events on TV.
The place is pristine with baroque tiles on the floor.
The staff are friendly and attentive. They checked on us every now and then to see if we needed anything.
For me, it’s a great place to chill after work day or to come just for a nightcap.

OH MY GOD THE VOMIT. I ran in here as a last resort because I was starving. I ordered a chicken quesadilla. It was disgusting (ESP the cheese, which was like plastic that was melted over garbage that was set on fire or something). I had one forth of the whole thing. I came home and threw up SEVEN times… I had to take off work and wait like 48 hours until I even felt like a human being again.
Every time I even think about it, I get nauseated. Thus, this review was a great risk! So BEWARE.

Great little bar on a terrific packed street. There’s so much to do in this area but make sure you stop in to the custom house for a drink. The bartenders are fast and friendly and pour generous drinks.
TVs inside to watch the game on is a definite plus in my book.

Easy drinking and dining with a little bit of style, in the neighborhood.
This part of Brooklyn Heights has been lousy in terms of bars for a long time. Custom House is a welcome addition, a large but cozy spot with a great selection of draghts and a friendly staff that is on it.
Custom House has a lot of TVs and is like a lot of places all over that serve up beer and burgers to a rowdy crowd of sports fans. But they do it in a great looking space, with extremely tall ceilings, marble and wood fixtures, and lots of light. There’s also a large seating area on the sidewalk. My favorite area is this odd room between the front door and the bar proper, with a fireplace and a sofa that always seems available.
The crowd is a lively mixture of locals and people who work in the area. Lots of crusty Brooklyn «characters,» too, depending on what game’s on.
The menu is sandwiches and other bar-​type food, slightly fancied up and pretty good.
Custom House is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and an easy spot to love.

I don’t mind the atmosphere. There is outdoor seating in the front and the back. The service is about a 4 out of 10 but nothing so terrible. The food is really not great. I’m hungry and the wait for the food was so long that I am going to eat this frozen microwaved salmon burger before I return to work.
I won’t return though.
