I have seen this doctor for several years. Never again. Recently, I had an emergency and it took over a month and a half to get an appointment –despite explaining clearly it was an emergency. At my appointment, I waited more than an hour, when I asked the receptionist how late she was running, the staff simply said «soon», another hour rolled by. Once in the office, the nurse asked me how tall I was — I asked her to measure me. She looks me up and down and writes a number on my chart. I insisted she actually measure me. (Women losing height can be a sign of bone degeneration or osteoporosis). When I finally saw the doctor, she asked me several questions, repeatedly cut me off while i answered and when I asked her about an issue that I was concerned with. She offered little direction/​advice/​education. She scolded me that lab reports she had ordered went missing. I don’t know how that was my fault.
I felt disrespected and condescended to, that on top of the sloppy care I received. I am moving on.

I cannot give this group any stars. I am new to Brooklyn and was looking for a women’s clinic as they would be totally committed to the needs of women. I need a good gynecologist as I am experiencing difficulties and need real guidance. I have NEVER had a less caring or worse experience simply getting anyone on the phone. I left a message a week ago which was never returned. I have called numerous times to follow up with either no way to leave a message because of no one answering the phone, or putting me on hold. I tried again today. First call answered after I called on and off for two hours. Polite representative took all my information, said system was down and would call back ASAP to book the appt. She did that. When I called back within the hour as I said I would, and with all my info given, and told that now anyone could book my appointment, I called back. In heavy traffic I pulled over and waited on hold for 15 minutes. Thinking they forgot me I hung up and called back and explained how long I had been on hold and was in traffic. The woman said hold just one minute and we will get you taken care of. After 15 to 20 more minutes I held on because I was afraid they would close. When they finally answered I asked are you kidding? I am in the medical field and this is totally unacceptable! I have been trying for over one week! Her answer was, that wasn’t me who put you on hold. Really? Then who? Then without any question as to my urgent needs she said, first, as they all did, what is your insurance?, which I have, and had told them three times, but would have paid with or without… she said that the doctor is not available until August. One week after I had been trying to reach them consistently. I cannot wait until August and had been trying for over a week. Suffice it to say I am outraged and have to start again elsewhere. I cannot believe they are tied to New York Methodist. I mistakenly sought comfort in that. My suggestion is simple. This is totally unacceptable I any field but in the medical field? A group totally committed to the needs of women? NO WORDS… beyond my comprehension.

I called them in the morning because i needed a routing visit, and I was looking for any gynecologist since I just move to the slope, the girl told me to call later, i did and they said SORRY no until next month, and btw they take for ever to pick up the phone

Bordering on disgusting customer service.
It took me two days of being put on hold to finally talk to someone. Seriously?
This doctor might be a good one, but she obviously does not make communication with ill patients a priority or else her staff would not be so incompetent.
I wish I could review the doctor herself, but I don’t remember my first visit last year. It’s a blur after waiting two hours in a filthy waiting room. This year, I called for an appointment due to severe pains in my reproductive area that were so bad I couldn’t walk. I was told rudely, by the way, that the secretary would have my doc’s nurse call me back. I waited a week. No phone call.

Are doctors for sick people or not? A doctor must make time for ill people. That’s the
point after all, to help someone get better?

I wish I could have gotten a chance to hear the doctor’s perspective on this, but when I called with an emergancy and asked for a favor-​to be seen, the front desk receptionist was cold and rude, telling me to go straight to the ER. I won’t call again.

Perfect combination of professional and approachable, obviously knows her stuff and super super thorough. You can tell she genuinely cares about women’s health. She sat down and talked with me for a while, but the unpleasant part of the whole deal was done so quickly and with so little discomfort that I was surprised it was over — much better than laying there with my eyes closed praying for it to end.
She takes my crappy insurance that no one has ever heard of, so chances are good that she takes yours.
ETA: I still think Dr. Shapiro herself is great, but after my first visit I’ve been less than thrilled with the way the rest of the office is run. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the sheer volume of people in and out, but, just a heads up.

The worst thing about the move from NJ to NYC was having to leave my former-​gynecologist behind. I think this is the worst kind of doctor to have to replace, because it takes time to feel really comfortable talking with your doctor and developing a relationship.
That much said, I then asked everyone I knew for recommendations. I really prefer to go to a woman-​doctor for gynecology. My boss recommended Dr. Shapiro. As soon as I found out that she accepted my health insurance (GHI), I booked an appointment right away!
I LOVE DR. SHAPIRO. She is nice, she is helpful, she is compassionate, she has returned my calls on the weekends (from home) when she is not in the office. I felt completely comfortable with her right away. I highly recommend her to all of my friends.
Additionally, the Women’s Health Suite in the New York Methodist Hospital has other doctors in their group, and I believe all of the doctors might accept different health insurance plans. It is worth a try to call and see if anyone accepts your insurance here, because the facility is very nice, and I have never really had to wait a long time if I have an appointment.
UPDATE: Okay, one time I had to wait kind of a long time. Bring a book to read, just in case!
