This is probably the manliest store you could ever walk into. I’m talkin’ bout all black (yes including the felt) pool table, the smell of high quality leather and a sick chopper. They don’t have very colorful clothes. Everything is on the dark and neutral side which makes it accessible for the everyday man.
The quality of clothes at Robert James is amazing considering the price. I believe everything here is made in the USA. I purchased board shorts for my significant other here two years ago and although he wears them almost everyday in the summer they still haven’t ripped or faded and is still going strong! Things run on the smaller size for dudes. For reference my S.O. wears a 30×30 and he wears a medium here.
Everything here is very thoughtfully curated and their staff is very patient and helpful.

I’ve been buying Robert’s clothes pretty much since he opened the first store. The care and craftsmanship that goes into the things he makes are simply a cut above the rest, and that’s what keeps me coming back. Everything is made responsibly here in NYC. The stuff not only looks good, but it is truly built to last, with great materials, thoughtful lines and sturdy construction. Robert is a stand-​up dude and an honest designer who is not out there chasing trends. He has his own timeless style, so you can enjoy your clothes for years instead of just weeks. I still get compliments on shirts I bought from him six years ago, because they look as good as the day I bought them.

Such a great shop, first stumbled across the Orchard street location years ago. I bought a coat from them back then and still get compliments on it years later. And actually I had a button fall off that coat (after hopping over a fence one night) so I brought it in, not only did they sew the button back on, but they tailored it a bit more to fit me even better. That kind of service you don’t come across too often. It just shows how much these guys love what they do, and they do it well. Their coats always have very distinct but classic collars and a very thoughtful placement of pockets. Someone else here said it well «Great style without being over the top». I’ve since acquired two more of their coats, and there’s another I have my eye on…

One word: badass. Hand’s down the best hand-​crafted duds for the money. Great style without being over the top. A great mix of Rock n Roll meets city refined. My girlfriend has worked in retail for years, and where I’m a bit of a neophyte, she immediately noticed the quality of the craftsmanship when I showed her my haul.
Jameson was a huge help with fitting and alterations. He’s obviously on top of his game and made shopping, which I sometimes abhor, a real pleasure.

The most attentive experience I’ve ever had while clothes shopping. Jameson, the manager and John were both very helpful, genuine and a pleasure to buy from. Easily one of my favorite stores in NYC now.

I’m a Robert James fan. The clothes are great, the customer service is top notch and everyone working there is super cool. I have a number of items from him ranging from winter coats to a custom suit and t-​shirts. They all fit perfectly, feel great and look awesome. I would definitely recommend checking them out, well worth every penny!

Seriously, I enjoy great clothes and I love the edgy but also understated designs. I wear a lot of formal wear and BRJ makes wearing a suit or dressing up for that matter so unique that you stand out from the rest, but also feel as if you dressed appropriately. At this point BRJ is slowly taking over my wardrobe.
The quality is awesome and the staff is super friendly. They have always been honest about how something should fit on me and tell me all the little details of clothing design and stitching that indicate a well-​crafted product. For example, I once thought a shirt fit me really well, but they pointed out the armhole was too small and it would cause discomfort in the armpits over time – that honesty is something I appreciate. I always enjoyed the fact that the staff is super chill and welcoming, interested in cultivating a relationship and making sure they can best fit your clothing needs. Such personal attention is good business practice and is why I will continue to support BRJ!

Amazing! I went in to buy my boyfriend a gift for the holidays. He loved the shirt so much that he’s been back for more ever since. Prices are reasonable for good quality made in New York clothes! The staff is helpful and friendly and I even got a chance to meet the designer.
