My experiences here at Brooklyn Optical, is quite alright. I thought that the staff who helped me were professional and friendly. I am a customer for years and years, since their first branch location in Chinatown, Manhattan. I was quite happy to see their Brooklyn branch opened few years ago, too. I was always treated with respect and patience with the exception of one employee, who apparently is an older guy. I would always avoid him and rather go for a more junior employee. I met the new optometrist which is a younger gentleman. He has a sense of humor and made the process of eye check-up much more fun. Overall, this is not a bad branch. I never felt rushed or pushed to buy something that I did not like 100%. MOST staff members are genuine and there to help. Hopefully, my eyes don’t get worse for my next check-up! :(

This place have to know how to conduct business in the proper manner without thinking about money all the time. My family and I stopped coming here because they give you fault info and charge you twice the price as compared to the other stores. If you speak English and read the fine print and know what’s going on, you will learn to hate this place because you know that they are trying to scam from you. I was charged $ 300 for a set of frames that another place checked the following couple months and told me that those are the fake ones and are $ 50. Do you know how sad that is to hear.

I’ve been coming here for years to order my contacts. I usually order 3 months and sometimes 1 year. I just ran out of contacts and I decide to come here to order more. The usual people that helps me doesn’t seem to work there anymore. I approached one of the worker and asked for 3 months. She then goes we don’t do 3 months, only 6 months and 1 year. Then i was like I always do 3 months here, its even on my record. She tells me no where does 3 month. Then I said I’m leaving, she stops me and said she will ask her boss. She comes back and said ok we can do 3 months and I tell her to help me order. She leaves and comes back again and tells me I have to do 6 months minimum. I told her I don’t want to order anymore multiple time and she ignores me and continues to write my order with my debit card for 6 months. I finally got her to stop and took my debit card and left but realize I need my prescription. I walk back in to ask for it and she goes ‘its expired prescription we can’t give it to you, you need to pay 125 for us to do another eye exam to get your prescription.’ That was ridiculous. I left and went to the store on 60th and 8th ave instead.

I think i am going blind. Ooh wait let me put my glasses on, that’s better. Since I haven’t had a eye exam in a number of years this place was the closest place for me to try. As I walked in the place was not busy and service was fast and kind. I was given one eye test by the counter. And then I was called in the back to see the Optometrist. She was very kind and professional. After getting my prescription to my correct vision i walked back out to find some frames that were nice and reasonable. I settled on a pair of Eschenbach frames that are titan-flex. The price was approx $ 250.00 and i like the style and flexibility of the titan-flex. Plus they fitted my frames when i came back to pick them up. Wow I never had the service they provide here at other optometrists before. Usually they just give you the frames, you try them on and leave. Here they sit down and actually shape the frames to fit your face. That’s very professional and courteous.

I’ve been coming here for several years and I always seem to have a problem, but I still manage to come back because it’s a quick-ass process. But, never again. The first time, the optometrist was chewing/smacking her gum while examining my eyes being really unprofessional. The second time, I asked for my prescription because I wanted to buy my glasses online and the four-eyed manager wouldn’t allow it. He said it has been too long since my last exam and he needed to do a new one before he writes me a prescription. Ok, I respect that and he is right. Then I asked about the Acuvue rebate and they said if I use my friggin insurance then I don’t get a rebate, which is totally false and bogus. I looked it up and you can still redeem the rebate even with using your insurance. Based on their wrong information, I basically forfeited $ 30 because I paid for the packaged deal when I really should not have since I thought I could not use my rebate. On top of that, they give me some bull-shit Japanese brand Acuvue contacts which I know they imported for much less and they charge me up the wazoo for the retail price. On top of that, the girl examining me looked like she just got her license yesterday. I was looking at the eye chart and I repeated the letters again and again like before and the wench said I can’t see, but that I was repeating letters from memory! WTF? Like it’s my fault if my brain has quick-firing synapses that help me remember familiar letters. I think it’s her fault that she didn’t switch the order of letters around. I think all that put the nail in the coffin and I refuse to go back. I’m done giving them my business because we are no longer friends. Deuces.

I went to get an old copy of my vision which they are suppose to provide you when you get your glasses done. They never did. All they did was ignore me cause I dont speak chinese. They were mumbling something stupid. They gave me the run around. And wanted me to continue ordering my contacts from them. They are just money hungry. I perfer going to 60th street.

These people are great. Professional, fair prices and honest. They have a very good collection of frames. I have a high prescription –7 and wanted superthin lens 1.74 in rimless frames. No one would do it — went to 3 – 4 places. They did it without any questions. That was 3 years ago. Now I moved to Philly from Brooklyn and needed new lens. Went begging around Philly — one one would touch it. So I drove back to Brooklyn. These people were awesome — fitted new lens for less money than others and great service. Highly recommended.
