I’ve always enjoyed Blue Mountain jerk chicken. The jerk sauce is delicious. It’s a staple and it is consistently good. Venturing past jerk chicken has been a little more inconsistent. I had a fish that was just okay with rice and peas. But the curry chicken and macaroni and cheese was very good. What seems to be consistently problematic are the attitudes of some staff members. I can’t think of a time that I feel genuinely welcome or greeted. I’ve also heard tones that have been curt and gruff towards customers. But maybe that’s not the point. After all it is a counter dining experience where are you order your food take it and leave.

In the mood for great oxtails and rice and peas? Come to Blue Mountain! I have frequented this caribbean hot spot on Utica ave for some time now over the years. Was in the mood for some island cuisine this particular day. The shop is literally big enough for take out orders. There are stools for«dine in», but with the heat in that place I rather take my food to go! Hahaha. I wanted oxtails and come to find out the price rose! Only had pocket money on me so i got the curry goat(which was just as great) for my 10 buck budget. My server was very nice and trust me a smile and being polite goes a long way… hint*(extra food). Overall great hot for some Caribbean grub.

The food is good, price decent, portion is good and it doesn’t feel like a fast food resturant but the workers with the attitudes is ridiculous. Don’t let you be the first in the store or the last

Kudos to their Jerk Chicken and Curry Chicken. They also serve bak chow as a side vegetable unlike other surrounding restaurants in the area

I’ve been to this restaurant twice. The jerk chicken and steamed fish are great. My friend had the oxtails which he thought was phenomenal. This is a great under the radar restaurant that serves much better fare than some higher end Caribbean restaurants.

Best jerk chicken ever! I love stopping here. Sometimes I’ll get ox tail which is also good but jerk chicken is by far my fav. The only downside to this place is the is no seating & there is always a line no matter what time you go. U have to wait a bit but the chicken is so fresh

The line was long. The food looked good. Ordered the jerk pork but it was a little salty. The fried chicken was awesome though…

I’ve ate here a few times since it’s nearby my new job. On all occasion the staff has been rude and act as if they don’t want to serve you. However if their«friends» come in their whole mood changes ! Anyway i order oxtail with rice and peas which is really good the downside is my plate is always filled with rice and very few pieces of oxtail. Their lemonade is also pretty good

Came here on a recommendation for lunch. Service was little slow and maybe not that friendly. I got jerk chicken w rice and peas. The food was pretty good. I like a saucier jerk chicken, it came with sauce on the side. But overall I thought the food was good. I also ordered a beef Patti which I liked cause it tasted more home made then golden crust. It also tasted good the next day!

Apparently this place is supposedly one of the best Jamaican eateries, I beg to differ, honestly speaking after having eaten from countless Jamaican restaurant’s/house holds to be fair steamed veggies aren’t really their thing, it usually ends up always tasting sort of stale, the crispy fried plantain was beyond soggy, oxtail and rice was overly sweet speaking about sweetness I have had occasion of asking some of my Jamaican friends why every time they are always making their foods with more than average sugar their answer to that was that so when people taste their cuisine they would get the impression that Jamaican food is the sweetest in all of the islands could not agree more with them on that note :) no but it truly is a very silly assessment in my respective opinion as it is going to be near impossible to determine which one restaurant let alone which one person cooks the best

As a Jamaican-American brought up in a VERY old fashioned, culturally rich household(I was born in Brooklyn, and yet my knowledge of nezzberry, gizzada and Ms. Bennett Coverly reaches from here to beyond) let me just say that this place is WANTING. Where do I begin? As a woman with a fondness for ackee and johnny cakes, I was initially enticed to come here because of how close they are to my home — however, no matter how I try to give them redemption they make no room for allowances. On several occasions, I’ve had to walk out for the heat and the flies(easily solved by installing ac and closing the door, but this seems to be an issue). The staff is also rude-no island hospitality here. Several of the prices on the wall menu behind the counter have been changed frequently and are unintelligible, so often they will charge you what they feel for food-which can vary greatly depending on, whether you’re a friend or not or whether the staff believes you’ve irritated them-and once you’ve handed over payment there is no getting your money back. Sometimes, the food looks like its been sitting there awhile, and on more than one occasion I have noted a half inch thick oil slick on served soup. I went this morning(the earlier, I figured, the safer it would be) to purchase ackee and salfish with callaloo and bakes. In pricing, I was initially told it would be $ 10. Then, when I paid, my breakfast was held hostage while I was told it was an extra dollar for the callaloo(which, to my knowledge, was untrue as original price quoted has come with 2 sides). Disgruntled, I paid the extra buck and headed home. When at home, I discovered that the ackee and saltfish were swimming in oil, and the callaloo had not been properly trimmed so that there were still woody stems present. The bakes were alright in texture, but tasted as if they’d been cooked in old oil. All in all, save your money and your tastes for Topaz down the street.

Went there last week because I was in the area and what a surprise! The place looked like it had been renovated, and it seemed like there were more food choices. I had the jerk chicken with rice and peas and boy oh boy it was delicious! The rice was tasty and the jerk chicken was just out of this world! Best jerk chicken I’ve ever had. The service is non existent but I have come to expect that from these types of establishments.

The food is less to be desired The Jerk chicken not great and the beef patties suck. The service is not that great either.
