This greenmarket is a welcome part of the mid-week grocery diminishment I always face in my kitchen. There are only about 5 farm booths, but I have never noticed any particular item lacking. Since it’s on Wednesdays, and it’s a little bit off the beaten path, I’ve never seen it too crowded(a welcome change from the Grand Army greenmarket on Saturdays– though this market is great too!). Friendly farmers, great produce, fish, eggs, and bread.

Been to this market now about four times. There aren’t many vendors to compare prices against, but the vendors that do come have plentiful supplies! I prefer the stand that’s further in the back — prices seem much more affordable and sometimes they have single carrots or beets(instead of in a bundle) that you can buy per pound.(much cheaper).

BEWARETHEFISHGUY !!– although the fish is yummy, I suspected that he was shorting me on his hidden scale. Today I came home and weighed my purchase to sadly find that he is(by 1.5 ounces — which is a lot for an 8 ounce order). I saw him take a scallop out of the bag after he took them off the scale and told me what I owed. That made me really question his ethics. 5 stars for all the other vendors their produce and baked good are tops.

Every Wednesday morning a fabulous greenmarket sets up shop at the entrance to Prospect Park, right across from Bartel Pritchard Square(really more of a circle). This is a small deal — run mainly by two different farmers and is fruit and veggie-centric with, of course, lots of cider doughnuts. Today I picked up corn, white peaches, brandywine heirloom tomatoes(red and yellow) and a little basket of gorgeous orange sungold tomatoes. If you haven’t had these little orbs of goodness, you must try them. They’re delicious when bathed in olive oil then gently grilled and sprinkled with sea salt. Meredith’s Bread, a family-run organic, natural bakery from Kingston, NY also has a stand here. So, plan for a picnic — pick up a couple of tomatoes, some peaches or pears and some baked goods and hang out in Prospect Park for a few hours. Enjoy!
