Davanni’s Pizza & Hot Hoagies

The food here is totally gross. Inauthentic, cheap, microwavy-​tasting. We got pizza, which tasted frozen and reheated. Service was slow, albeit pleasant. The only good thing about this place is that it is located across from the clinic, so you can look at it from across the street, and think, «Man, I wish that were a Chipotle right there!»

My experience at davannis was absolutely outstanding. I was greeted by a lovely girl named myranda, who was not only very sweet, but also made me the most delicious hoagie I’ve ever eaten. She welcomed us in like we were family, and we’ll definitely be going back specifically to see her again. She had hilarious banter with a Co worker Ethan, who was also exceptional to work with and made the whole experience a lot of fun. Keep up the excellent work you two!

We get delivery and they are on time, drivers are nice. Food is very good can’t go wrong with them.

Placed an order at 615pm for a 7−715pm delivery. My order still wasn’t here at 730pm so I called the location. They told me that the online order system didn’t give them my address and they had tried to call me. My phone was working, yet it never rang from them. I gave them my address. By 830pm my food still wasn’t here. I called AGAIN. I was told that they got busy and had other orders they had to get out. I got a refund, no apologie, and a hungry family. Thank you Davanni’s. I’ll stick with a REAL restaurant from here on out.

I tried this joint for the first time today with my son. We were in a hurry and they had pizza by the slice for lunch. The menu looked pretty good and the sandwiches and calzones that I saw coming out of the oven looked fantastic.
In order to make it quick, we ordered two single slice combos (one slice and a small soda). The price came to a little over $ 5 each combo with tax, for a total just over $ 10.00
When we received our combos i had watched them go into and come out of the mini warming oven. I could see right away that the slices were only average size. A bit small for the cost. The slices were given to us immediately out of the oven, yet they weren’t very hot.
As we began to eat, there were several problems that became clear very quickly. I cannot be sure, but It appears that they pre-​bake the crust, then add sauce, cheese, and toppings, and then place the slices in the mini warming oven to melt the cheese and warm the slice and ingredients. I am assuming that this is done for speed and to keep food waste down. Unfortunately the finished product is not that good. The cheese was just barely melted and the pepperoni was barely warm.
Pizza made this way is never good. You are left with the choice of burning or making the pre-​cooked crust tough in order to fully melt and brown the cheese and make the ingredients and slice hot, or undercook the ingredients and have a slice that is not hot in order to keep the crust from burning and becoming tough. It’s much better to cook a whole pizza with varied ingredients on the pie, then keep the pie under a warming lamp, and briefly warm the slice in the oven to make it hot upon sale.
The cheese also appeared to be a cheaper, lower quality mozzarella (low moisture type). And not the high quality whole milk mozzarella that great pizza has.
I was disappointed to say the least. If the slice would have been hot and fresh from a whole pie, I might have overlooked the cheaper quality cheese and smaller slice to an extent.
I may give this place another shot to try the sandwiches or calzones, but I won’t go out of my way to do so.

I’ve been in town for a couple of weeks and Davanni’s is one of the few places that delivers. They are fast, good, and most things are worth the money. I did get a single serve pasta dish once that literally only had two bites to it but every other time the portions have been adequate. My only complaint is that everything had Gorgonzola on it. I like Gorgonzola but it is sometimes overpowering the other flavors.

This is my go to pizza place. Love it and the staff is always friendly!

Let me start off that I love Davanni’s Pizza. I always have. Every time I come to MN, I always order from them. But, this time they irked me a little bit.
The pizza I ordered was cold, and I paid for a deep dish and a regular hand tossed but got to hand tossed. I wanted a deep dish!
By the time I discovered this, i was already home and it was too late to drive back to get a different one.

Called at 8 for carryout at 9. They refused the order. Told them I get off work at 9 and I can’t pick up earlier. Refused. Pointed out they don’t close until 9:30 and I’m only 3 blocks away. Refused. I guess they don’t want my money. It’s too bad, because I like their pizza, but will order elsewhere from now on.

I grew up on Davannis. I moved out of the area to another city, and have moved back locally recently. I really missed the great service.
All Davannis have great food, but this one has always friendly people taking the calls over the phone and also helping you in store. The delivery is always fast, and almost always exactly how my family orders it. If there is every any issues, they are always quick to correct it.

My wife grew up on Davanni’s. So every time we’re in town we have to stop by one of their locations. This past week we stopped by twice — both times for lunch. The first time I got a pizza hoagie. It’s essentially a pepperoni pizza in a hoagie roll. Pepperoni, sauce, and mozzarella on a toasted bun. It’s definitely a tasty sammie with a little zing coming from the sauce and pepperoni.
During my second stop, I went with a solo white pizza with chicken, onions, and pineapple. It was a small, four-​slice pie on a regular crust that was a perfect balance of crispy and chewy.
Even though it was busy both times I stopped by, service was still fairly quick. Davanni’s is the kind of place you order at the counter and when your food is ready they’ll call your number or name. Both times we waited less than 15 minutes.
They may not have the best food out there, but for the price — and considering it’s a locally-​owned Minneapolis staple — it’s a place that I know I’ll revisit the next time I’m in town.
